i haven't played in the beta or read anything about classes or best ways to level and want to follow the storyline and craft as you go. how many hours will it take to hit 50? i am retired and i'm also cheap. i played wow for a total of 8 months and i got the game 1 month after launch. i'd play 24/7 during the 30 day sub and  bought tbc and lotrk and then quit for months at a time. i'd play wow during free  come back offers and the free to try 1-20 levels many times. i played lotro for  2 months as a sub but don't want to get hooked on their pay for content now so i just take characters up to about 25 or so . when i'm online i don't stand around the town square or talk to buddies in my guild [i never join one] but instead spend every moment advancing . if i spend $60 on this and play 18 hours a day for 30 days will i want to come back in a few months?

No, don't.

I hear rumors of capping in well under 100 hours of play. Doubt that includes crafting and is anything more than a gnarly grind.

That said, without playing, It sounds to me like you might enjoy ToR for a month or so, if I were you I'd maybe drop the $60, but not expect to sub past the free month,.

I too have yet to toss my cash at ToR, I dont think it will be G R E A T...but I told the powers that be Id like a copy fro Christmas...I think it may be the one I can use to get my wife into gaming.

WoW MMO hopper much? 18 hours a day? jesus... I'd be trying to find a Korean grinder or something mate cause by the sounds of it you'll cap in TOR in 4-5 days... find something to sink your teeth into, and save ya cash in the mean time I dont think ToR will be for you.

thanks for the replies. i guess someone could say  just go play skyrim or fo3 but i don't like solo games all that much. i want to be around other players and have a world that is alive even though i'm not pvp. i just want to get the most out of my paid sub and game purchase cuz i'm so cheap. if this was $40 instead of $60 i buy it. maybe i'll wait for guild war 2. i didn't play gw1 and i'm hopeing gw2 is good for pve since  i'm 99% carebear.  i guess the problem is i'm just so damn cheap, not poor, just cheap .

It truly does depend on your play choices, you could go through all the story arcs and have a blast.

Really consider what 60 dollars buys you these days in the form of entertainment.

That would easily cover your hardcore crazy hours.

That's 3 dvd's or blue ray, (maybe 5-6 craptastic) a night at the movies with a friend...See where I am going here?

I'm a cheap bastard myself but logically the hours consumed make up for the paltry entry fee.

If you are interested and can afford it, go for it. You never know. You cannot put your value towards others opinions and this is not WoW. It's Starwars.

It's not the same game so even judging on your past experience you've already pidgeon holed yourself.

If you follow all the story, you're looking at about 200 hours to level to 50.  I've been playing since early release and I have two characters to lvl 11, just taking my time and really enjoying everything the game has to offer.  I've been really impressed by the fact that I don't feel rushed to level up. 

Most Likely...id be more concerned about actually surviving the first 30 days at that rate, from the sounds of it youll probably have multiple 50's, and as far as coming back....EA wants your money and Bioware knows how to get it.

Depends really. From the sounds of it you might enjoy a month of the game but might not get much more out of it. Outside the story, theres not much going for the game outside the starwars fan-gasm.

If you enjoy the voice overs and flashpoints, the game is quite enjoyable. Empire and Republic are also 100% different so rolling on both sides will double the value of your purchase.  The light and dark choices make each character feel different also extending play (will take two per side to see all open world quests and results).

Excellent quote and one of the main reasons i wont be playing. Besides the whole "whats wrong with the game" conversation.

I beta'd and understood that BW/EA wants to make you play for longer, wants to "waste" your time, but in ways that you really dont see, or don't matter too much, hell i need to run for 3 minutes in this direction, thats ok.........by the time im 50 how many hours have sunk into running to and fro?

The subscription model's flaw is that if you are paying for something monthly, you MUST have something to do. As a casual player this may not be an issue, as you don't get to see much, maybe a few hours a week. As somone who will put time into a game, im tallking 10's of hours a week, there will be big barriers in place (Raids etc) to sink time, HOWEVER there must also be the incentive to come back and contend with the barriers. So the potential hook of the game is pretty much proportional to the time sinks in place (call it content if you like). I consider myself once truly hooked on WOW at high levels, several alts. Not as bad as others i know or have read about, im not about to sacrifice that much of my life again. Hell im sure my main had something disgusting like 200 days play time or more just on 1 character....

I think this 200 hours claim is absolute BS.

Someone already got 50 in about 60 hours.  And even if you assume that he skipped every piece of dialog and every cutscene, there is no way that there are 140 hours of dialog/cutscenes in ONE class' storyline.  I think 80-100 hours may be a more realistic estimate for time to 50 if all you do is the story stuff and you listen to everything.

Because they actually haven t played it and are just rehashing what all the haters keep saying, which is complete BS. Even if they have played it they re just space bar mashers and think the game has nothing to offer. Oh well to each their own.

My advice woudl be to wait a year or two then buy the game.  SWTOR is a game where you will not miss anything if your not there at release.  Plus it will be a much better and finished product then.  Not to mention you will likley be able to buy it for $5 after a year if its not free. Which fits in with your cheap themse.
