Based on the poll, im going to play whatever profession takes down mesmer's the quickest!

Nah, srsly, i'll probably roll a Ranger or Warrior. I'll only go ranger if i don't need a pet. i don't like pet managment or them stealing my thunder. Let me sit on my hilltop and rain down arrows and that's where ill stay. otherwise, its warrior that uses a bow for me ^_^

The Deep Web is sca-ry.

I plan on playing Thief and then roll a Ranger. This way I can quickly shut down all the people playing mesmers...

Lets see how long they will be able to stay alive.

Edit - The guy above me said almost the same thing XD so my new reason is... ... Awe heck, just to be virtually unstopable :-)

I think i'll either go with Mesmer or Necromancer. Definately love the necromancer because of all the survivability; like, if my heal is on cooldown, I can use my Death Shroud as a temporary 'cheat death' if you will. I'll probably use Axe + Focus as main weapon set for the damage dishing, and the Dagger + Warhorn for the survivability, what with the healing locust swarm which heals and the life siphon which is only like 4 second cooldown :D. If not, then i'll play mesmer with greatsword because of that AWESOME channeled beam, the sound effect is too awesome to pass up, not to mention the portal: Mesmer has so much utility!

Hmm, Ranger and Necro look pretty cool, or I might just straight up make a Guardian first. Oh damn it, I think I'm going to end up spending 20 minutes on the char. creation screen deciding lol.

We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.

I actually like the way they've implemented warriors to be competent in ALL aspects of war..

And gave it team buffing support capabilities...

and unchained it from a Healer.

Im into combat independency which is why Ive stuck to tankier ranged classes or Healers.

But It seems I can finally live out my dream of being a bloodthirsty soldier of Battle!

I'm playing all of them.....

.....

.....

ALL!

Haha yeah they all seem so amazing, choosing one seems too hard at the moment. Probably will start out with the least populously chosen one in my Pre-launch, so Engineer or Mesmer as a favorite, but I see Engineer being a less played proff due to its (arguably) mismatched technology for the fantasy genre.

Mesmer seems just so tactical and confusing I cannot wait to dive into its many strategical secrets, and oh the synergy combos! :)

Engineer fills my beloved Ritualist role, so there's that. I think all the things that it has to offer, I'll fnd a niche somewhere

Necromancer is a runner up, just because green and necrosis gets me off :p

ok  being new to the series i got  some Qs about the GW2 as far as those who played GW1 and Im a WoW fanboy so plz bear with the comparisons:

1.) How do raid/instance work in GW?

2.) is there any other reason aside from experiencing ea. profession/class to make alt characters? i mean in WoW  its kinda necessary because of the professions (JC,LW, etc,)  so that  you dont need other players to prospect/craft you some equips or specific items w/c sometimes cost u alot of gold

3.) Lastly, Does character building has a sense of depth into it? cuz so far i dont see any talent trees or some sort and Is pvp as intense as WoW

btw 3 professions interest me Engineer, Guardian (w/c is not the Paladin that i hate), Mesmer ; quite unique classes

I want to try a mesmer first since i liked them best in GW1. I have some serious doubts about there defensive capabilities though. If they are relying strictly on clones. I'll just have to wait til more info is given on them.

If Mesmer doesn't pan out then probably necro.

I'll answer this before people come in and yell at you.

1)

* There are no raids in the sense of WoW. You do not have these 10, 25, or 40 man gigantic raids where you go into an instance and defeat some boss. What you have instead are real world raid type events. For example, The Shatterer. The Shatterer is basically a lieutenant dragon for the one of the elder dragons. Go look up videos of it to see what I'm talking about. But basically, you have these bosses in the real world that are extremely powerful and require a group to completely. They scale up with the number of people participating. So the difficulty of the boss will be relative to the size of a group; the boss will be just as difficult for a group of 7 as it is for a group of 50.

* As of right now there are a total of 8 dungeons, each with a story mode and 3 separate explorable mode paths. Each dungeon is design for a 5 man group (though if you are skilled, you can complete it with less). The story mode for the dungeons are basically just that, the story mode. You play through the story of the instance. Once you completely the story mode, the explorable mode unlocks. When you enter the explorable version of the dungeon you will have 3 paths to take. Each path will be different from each other. The explorable mode will be much harder than the story mode. The explorable mode is where you will need the most skill with your class (remember skill>time in this game).

ArenaNet has also incorporated their dynamic events system into dungeons as well. So even following the same path twice, there may be some different things that occur within the path due to the dynamic event. The example ArenaNet gave was in a dungeon in Ascalon (go look up Ascalon on a GW wiki to learn of the lore and what happened between GW1 and GW2). Basically will traveling down a path, there could be a chance of some boss sort running and crashing through a wall like the kool-aid man.

2)

Personal narrative will be different for each profession, and race. So the personal narrative for an elementalist will differ from that of a mesmer, as well as a norn mesmer's personal narrative will differ from a human mesmer's personal narrative. It's also depends on choices you make throughout the game (for example, deciding to save an orphanage or a hospital when both are on fire. You cannot save both). Decisions like these will affect your story, and home instance. So even if you play the same profession again, you may not have the same story.

Then there's just exploring the world. Because of the dynamic events, you're second time through the world may be different from the first time. So if exploring is your thing, this will be a huge plus.

As for your concern of needing other players to craft you items, that may or may not happen. Read up on crafting in GW, as well as itemization. Basically the biggest difference between each armor piece and set of the same level will be the looks. While stats will differ, they won't differ in such a way as to give one person an advantage. They'll differ in such a way as to be more suited for say a warrior than a mesmer.

Also read up on loot drops from dungeons. You won't need to run a dungeon 20 times just to get that leg piece you want. Every time you run a dungeon, you are guaranteed an item you want.

3)

When you first make your character, you are presented with questions concerning your personal biography. There is one question that's guaranteed to be based on your profession, and one based on your race, and the rest are the same. How you answer these decides you're story.

You also have a personality system. While no personality will give you an ingame advantage, it will determine how NPCs react to you. An example given was seeing shop-keepers cowering behind their stalls or counter. (I should mention, you are capable of throwing a jar of bees at things).

As for stats: you have 4 attributes that you can upgrade each time you level. I don't remember what they are exactly. They each determine certain stats of your character. Though I don't know how these work now that they've removed mana and energy requirements from skills. We'll just have to wait for another update concerning them.

Then you have the traits system (and some skill collection). You still collect skills for your 5 customizable slots on your bar. (You are only allowed 10 skills at any given time, 5 are determined by the weapon you are holding, 5 you can customized provided one is healing and one is an elite). So you can slot those to be what you want. The traits sytem basically allow you to modify your existing skills to make them do more per use, or do something entirely different. There are no talent trees, nor are they required.

PvP will be very fast paced. Can't tell you whether it will be fun, as that's subjective. There will be 2 modes: World vs World vs World (casual PvP), where 3 servers are pitted against one another in a 2 week long battle. Not many details have been given, other than the maps (yes plural, with an s) will be large. You will enter to this mode with the armor on your back, the skills you have already acquired, and your current level.

You will then have the structured PvP, which is split into tournament play and hot-joinable play. When you enter into this mode, every is put on equal footing equipment, level, gear, and stats wise. The only thing that should matter in this mode, in theory, will be you ability to affectively use the profession you have chosen. There's plenty of footage on this PvP I recommend watching. I was at PAX and watch them play and it was really fun to watch.

For more information concerning the game:

http://www.arena.net/blog

http://www.guildwars2.com

http://www.guildwars2guru.com (fan forum, but ArenaNet employees post on here and read suggestions on here a lot).

As for the OP:

Mesmer will definitely be my main, not sure on race though. I do know it won't be norn.

Elementalist will be next profession (not sure what race)

Theif will be my third (most likely human)

This poll's mesmer results remind me of how high the Slyvari were when their big overhaul was shown to the public.  Mesmers (GW2 Mesmers that is) are shiny and new now, but I doubt they'll be the most played class as these results suggest.

My pedantry aside, lol.. I'm going Guardian all the way.  After that, Ranger.  Then most likely elementalist.  I'm an altaholic, but if GW2 plays like I expect, I will be paying attention to my main for a long time before thinking of rolling anything else.

All profs will probably be Norn.  Possibly something else for the Ele.

I think it's a combination of things: the newness of the class as it pertains to GW2, the old faithful Mesmer players of GW1, and possibly some people thinking it's going to be the kind of class whose skills can get them out of any situation.  If the Mesmer had been announced first like the Ele or Ranger, it might not have been as high.  Just my opinion though.
