not a troll im seriously interested. I love DAOCs RVR and if this planet is an open persistent area that massive fights can happen. then i will pre order this game in a heartbeat.
that being said from what i have seen it just seems like another Wintergrasp, where the game starts a set number of people are let in and once one side wins the planet is locked for a certain period of time. if thats the case then no thanks.
please someone with better understanding of Illum feel free to enlighten me. |

Here is all i can tell u as im not max level yet. illum is a persistant 24/7 world pvp, its objective based, Faction vs faction thats all i know because thats what bioware has told me and i havent read any other things on it from beta . Unlike wintergrasp and whatever that place in firelands was , its not a zone u fight for every 4 hrs or so. its persistant world pvp. A zone either side can take any time of day. |

its a mostly failed feature that many other games have tried before. in most games open world pvp was dwarfed by instant queue battle zones. like you have here. only place it really worked was in DaoC, becuase they didnt have any instanced battle zones. |

Originally posted by jairus I agree. I quit WAR when I realized no one wanted to do sieges because they were busy capturing flags. I understand that's quicker progress but it's soooo boring to me. I'd rather duke it out over a fortress for a couple of hours.

only problem is you won't get the best pvp gears in swtor if you don't participate in illum. To obtain the best pvp gears you need to play both instanced and open world pvp. Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6. |

as for the OPs question of is it persistent, yes it is As far Ilum goes, did you say it was going to be persistent like constant? http://www.darthhater.com/articles/swtor-news/17651-fan-site-summit-2-gabe-amatangelo-q-a |

I was......and I say WAS interested in this game because they talked of RVR(realm vs realm) I have been looking everywhere for information and most of what I've seen is talk and promises and video snippets.I'm not willing to invest $60 on promises.
The main game is ...another PVE game....shinier....bigger, newer
The missed opportunity is the RVR realm vs realm 24/7 persistent world conflict. The movies I say of STAR WARS.......conflict between good and evil was what is was all about .The best conflict there is is whan you fight other players ...not in those childish repetative instances mini game but 24/7 persistent conflict over territory control etc. |

With how much Empire outnumbers Republic on most servers, it's hard to believe Ilum will be fun. Best case maybe a lot of players will swap to Republic after they get to 50 on their first Empire toon then balance will improve. CU FP#0: The game must be fun. This overrides all the other FPs. Interested in: TESO, Wildstar, CU |

Originally posted by Ecoces It's more like WAR when Mythic broke zone capping. You can capture everything and blow up the enemy base, but it just resets so it's meaningless. It's good to see that Gabe learned absolutely nothing from Warhammer. Also with the massive population imbalances it will be absolutely dominated by empire on PvP servers and that will end up losing them a lot of subs. |

TOR should really just concetrate on the PvE story-telling thing that it does.. and it does it well. The PvP in the game is truely laughable and was probably added just so they can advertise that you can PvP. This is not PvP... "This creature softened my heart of stone. Originally posted by sgel I sadly have to agree. The PVP in this game is just extremely boring. Even LOTRO's Monsterplay PVP was more fun... and that says something. |

well thanks all, I will wait to see what they do with PVP before even thinking of buying it. I bought the BS with rift when the devs said there would be lots of attention to PVP only to find out that meant battlegrounds and balance patches.
I will never understand why game developers don't go the RVR route and make consensual PVP the norm ... you would think they would say "hey DAOC was such a big hit maybe we should use that idea" |

Originally posted by sgel its just as "PvP" as wow, and people love that....for some reason...anyway. I bought the game for the story, an the PVE exp. PvP has always been a far FAR second though for me, i PvP in battlefield 3, where its not twitch based skill that counts but acctual tactical skill... |

As much as I like TOR and want it to be successful I do think you make the right decision there. TOR in my eyes does offer a lot but when it comes to PVP I personally am rather pessimistic that they will actually manage to deliver. Being a DAoC vet myself I also am very picky when it comes to PVP and I am almost certain that I will be disappointed in TOR. |

There are a number of games on the way that offer a far greater promise of delivering great RVR.Dominus...Guild Wars 2...ArcheAge....Secret World come to mind. |
