The greatest part of Skyrim is the fact that you don't HAVE to do anything! I made an orc, did the empire storyline, made a Nord and did the stormcloak story. Then I made my wood elf. My wood elf is with neither faction. Instead I spend my time hunting deer, helping the occasional person, but staying out of polotics, as any Wood Elf should! I keep to the woods and rare go into town, I stick to the smaller towns to craft and trade. I also made a Khajiit Thief, which also has no affiliation with any town, except a little with Riften (I am a thief after all hehe). I mainly just stay to myself, stealing when i want to. It's hilarious to steal something, then sell it back to the previous owner :D CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor(2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB) |

Originally posted by kattehus I LOL'd hard when I heard that. Yeah, I love the game, but feel that there are some annoying parts of the game that could have easily been remedied but haven't. 1) Still no 3D Object control to turn and place a held object. 2) All bookcases should have the "place book" function. 3) Lydia...I want to go....get out of my way. 4) Giant launching. 5) Umm...no custom spell creation? 6) Umm...no custom enchantment creation? 7) The armorer/enchant exploit. I don't use it. 8) Compare the spell list from Morrowind to Oblivion then to Skyrim. We were robbed. 9) [SPOILER ALERT] Ok, I lead the _____ guild now. Why can't I recruit people? 10) SKYRIM GUARDS: Y U NO GET BETTER KNEE ARMOR??? 11) CONSOLES: Y U NO GET MODS??? I feel that in spite of the scope of this game, Bethesda was counting on players to fix some of these things with mods that should have been done from launch. I am looking forward to the day of saying, "Back when I played Vanilla Skyrim. Get off my lawn." I could have written more but then I...oh forget it. |

Originally posted by PyrateLV I agree somewhat. SWTOR has the same vastness of world, but it is a themepark with finite, (albiet bountiful options) and not a Sandbox. However, Skyrim didn't make me LOVE what an MMORPG could be. I loved Skyrim because there were no other players ---> nobody to argue with, haggle with, steal quest mobs and treasure chests and resource nodes from... just me, and my plans for world domination through ungodly hours of play. I really don't think sandboxes make the best MMOs.... at least not in our day. Perhaps when technology advances and we no longer have to see developers individually program every facet of the world in, the genre will boom forward. Until then, these themeparks are the best the world has to offer. Error: 37. Signature not found. Please connect to my server for signature access. |

So I stopped playing Skyrim for a while so I could get something with a more dense storyline. In this case I'm talking about the first Mass Effect game, that I got in the last Steam deal. The game, as everybody probably already knows, is the opposite of Skyrim: great main story, worst side quests ever. But that has nothing to do with my point here. The thing is: in my 30 hours of ME I saw something like 3 times the quantity of bugs I saw while playing 60 hours Skyrim, including random CTDs and being trapped or thrown outside the meshes of the levels. I know Skyrim for ps3 had serious issues but my pc version crashed 3 times and presents some collision bugs once in a long while. And I'd give Skyrim a 9/10, not because it's so technically great, but because the experience I'm having is so rich and great that some issues I have about it are just not enough to make me feel bad about it. No, really. I usually open the game just to walk around the woods a bit (which usually results in finding something interesting). |

Originally posted by Vahrane Heh , Skyrim deserves to be on this site and any other MMO site for that matter. Bethesda has thrown in more innovations that are perfect for MMOs than mostly all MMOs failed to combine all togheter in the last 5 to 7 years. And Bethesda is just getting warmed up , after selling in the 10's million of copies , they caught alot of attention , I've been through mostly all the games content in about 180 hours but that doesn't stop me on logging back on and enjoying killing guards in markath ( hope they add function to markath to pay my 140K bounty ). In a sense Bethesda opened the doors wide open to the MMO world , if the Devs are willing to embark and use some of Skyrim's innovation , because deep down , Skyrim is the perfect tool for finally bringing WoW clones to a full stop and hell , why not bring down WoW along the process? So yea , Skyrim fits well in the MMO world because as months go by , we'll be seeing new MMOs trying to recreate some of Skyrim's sparks , so just a warning to you GW2 fanatics out there , I'm a GW2 fan also , but it's far from being the dream MMO anymore , not with Skyrim in town. Well time for me to FUS RO DAH some markath guards. o/ |

personally still can't figure out why to improve something they (companies) have to hinder some other aspects. I've played Skyrim for many hours, and yes it is a good game but imo not a Masterpiece like most reviewers and players think. It's surely better than it's predecessor (Oblivion) but worse than Morrowind and even the previous TES chapters (well not all of them ), and what's this fascination with dragons lately?where are the good ol' stilt riders or other weird creatures we had in Morrowind?where r the guilds? i mean the ones you find in Skyrim are not guilds are just quest givers "do this do that and gratz now you'r the guild master! now back to do grunt's works" World is vast, open and nicely done, the you have villages (you can't call them cities), i get it's partly due to the lore, but c'mon they could have made them a bit more interesting (and populated). Someonw calls it a sandbox (?!?) then tell me how i can actually become a bard or how can you have fun living the life of a city rogue or again actually side with the Forsworn or even worse with Thalmers (no need for quests, just an "option" that allows you not to be attacked on sight by them for example)

So, Syrim is a lesser game because it 's not Morrowind? Personally, I recall those stupid birds attacking me every five seconds. I also recall city layouts where falling off a cliff meant swimming for hours. And no, a game does not have to have every feature YOU randomly name just to be called "sandbox." The feature you mention would take probably about a year of programming and for what? A feature tthat 95% of players would find boring and insipid. Not how devs should spend their time. Name a game that had that feature... and didn't suck? Seriously, chief, I don't think today's technology is anywhere near as advanced as you seem to think it is. Error: 37. Signature not found. Originally posted by gordiflu To respond to your obvious attempt to be incredibly smart, no not almost all these bugs have been addressed. I guess you haven't looked at the Bethesda Forums. I'd like to say to your other small jab about other games not providing this many hours, I had to start over about three times because there's no way to respec you characters. So much of the time played was content I'd already played. I played all the other Bethesda games and wanted to so badly give them the benefit of the doubt, but the sad truth is, it's a really horrible game. Like I said, finish the game and then come tell me what you think. I haven't seen such a bad ending in a long time. The world around you just kinda shrugs at the fact of you heroic accomplishment and you get to explore the same mundane lifeless world of Skyrim. Another thing is, I played every possible class combo because I wanted my bug list on the forums to be comprehensive. I guess I should have mentioned that for those who like to attack others on forums and sit back twiddling their thumbs as if they just made the funniest remarks alive. And I'd like to advise you to read my former post again, the one you quoted. I didn't blame stupid AI as the reason for being able to kill your companions. I can re-type if needed, in double space even. And about fraps, you're right, especially since fraps causes my Skyrim to crash anyway. Do your homework and don't be a smarta** just to troll for a few agreeing posts. Go troll another thread. |

Oh believe me, I'd like to have the obvious social utopia you must have, but sadly, I don't. It's sad to me that people attack eachother so readily on forums and video games yet in real life they must live a facade, because your nature that's baring it's self here is to be ugly and to tear down. Good job. So yes, I'm a pathetic person with a lot of lost friends that I wish I had around me. Some even have less than me. I pray they receive a blessing in this life and have the smarts to stay away from people like you. |

Skyrim is an open virtual world where you can find and play your personal role. SWTOR is a storybook, and you are an actor playing the role of a hero designed by Bioware. this is something fully different. played: Everquest I (6 years), EVE (3 years) |

I was about to praise the OP for emerging as one of the very few really good writers on this site when I realized she was the same author I've praised before. She remains not one of "the few" great writers, but the only great writer on this site. And I say this from an unbiased perspective, because I definitely do not always agree with everything she says. Keep the fun, fluid, and entertaining articles coming! |

I just read a post here about someone stating how bad Skyrim is, and that they played 300 hours. How the hell do you play a game you don't like for 300 hours? Blows my mind!
Sure the game has a lot of bugs, this is typical of Bethesda titles. Aside from that, it really is an awesome game. There is no way in hell anyone would play a game for 300 hours that they hated unless they were into self-flagellation. Somebody needs treatment, lol. |

Originally posted by FreeBooteR More than almost any other game I've played, there definitely seems to be a point where the novelty of the experience suddenly wears off. After that point is reached, it becomes possible to reflect back upon your experience in the game and take note of all the pros and cons. There are many of both, to be sure, but most people seem to easily conclude that the pros vastly outweigh the cons. A few, such as the poster you describe, may not. Regardless, even if you never touch the game again, it's hard to argue the initial 100-300 hour enjoyable gaming experience is not worth the money spent on the game. |

im gonna take a wild guess that skyrim is far better on the pc than it is on the xbox. im really bored of it already!!! way to many npc's with the same war wounds!! im surprised their isnt a shortage of arrows.
other than well killing undead and bandits there really isnt a great deal to do!!! you get the option to be either imperial or rebel whoopeee doo!!! and there are a few sub factions you can become a memeber of such as the companions!! but it is all just the same old thing all the way through the game!!!
dragon slaying is pointless and the thummmm what ever that last minute cant think of a good prop thing is! is just well ....... pointless. who actually uses anything other than unrelenting force!! infact im starting to feel more like a jedi each time i play the game .
no im sorry i cant say skyrim is a great game!! its ok but thats about it. sure it looks fantastic but we dont play looks do we!! we play games. and their isnt much game in skyrim!! also the mounts are pointless too and the travel wagons!! crafting is pointless.. infact the most useful thing ive found in the game is enchanting.
now here are my what ifs!!!!
what if - skyrim was an mmo ? skyrim had the option of more resources the option of building your own fort/keep/town and working it to encourage npc's to come settle there!!! skyrim had an multiplayer option so you wasnt the only one running about the world you could fight from horse back npc gaurds had diffrent injurys other than arrows in their knees.
as it stands skyrim feels linear at best!! FOLLOW QUESTS ! of pretty much exactly the same content and endings. kill the bad guys whack the boss loot the chest lol i know you all know what im talking about ;)
so yea ill leave that with ya!! skyim is ok but not really worth ranting on about. |

By the way, horses you don't own are considered witnesses and can report you. 4. Companions are thoroughly underdeveloped and exceedingly buggy. I still bring them along for most of my jaunts though, since using them effectively becomes it's own little metagame. And I need the extra carry capacity. 5. Combat is often sluggish because the game is designed to be continuously paused so that you can use pots, switch gear, switch weapon sets or use scrolls. The Favorites list itself does little to alleviate these gameflow interrupts because you can only have 8 items hotkeyed from it and those hotkeys can't load sets. If you want to make sure you're loading the correct items or spells to the correct hand, you either need to pause, trust in fate or use extra keypresses to "move" things between hands. And then, those 8 hot slots won't even cover your most often used weapons, spells and shouts. I got around this by using no magic with my first character. The woeful state of the interface is becoming clearer, the more I play this character.
All that being said, I still have to give it a 4/5. The world itself is just too grand not to. How Bethesda makes you interact with it can leave a lot to be desired though.
BTW: Maybe now it's becoming clearer to some folks why many choose to solo in MMOs. We just want a big world to explore and not a lot of imbeciles there to sully the experience. Few SP games have offered a world with near as much depth as Skyrim. That's not so much the case with MMOs. And would Skyrim really be better if it were crowded, peak to valley, with other players? I certainly don't think so. |

What planet are you on? "The combat..Is well bad.." What??? It is one of the best melee combat systems I have ever played. I have never used nor will I ever use a controller as they for dummies who play Consoles. The mouse and keyboard is very well done in Skyrim and the combat is one of the best I have ever experiened. I would say as good if not better than Mount and Blade (normally considered the best sword fighting game on the pc). Care to name a game that you say is good combat or are you just trying to troll something because you like be different and make an ass of yourself. Skryrim combat not good? wtf planet ......

Originally posted by Cacophanist i find skyrim's combat to be pretty ordinary. sure, it looks pretty with the cutscenes, i can't argue that, but it's pretty lazy and about the only thing which makes it interesting is most fights are over so quick. it's very kill or die, which is thrilling. but hardly challenging. i use a pc keyboard/mouse and i'm not overly fond of the combat. as for good combat, i think i've played too many mmos, many of which are more responsive. in most mmos, for example, i find a strafe around my victim in a circle. it's the rogue in me. but with skyrim, i don't even bother. there's no need. as for what planet, i'm on earth. you? |
