Unfortunately, the forums are wiped, so there's no way to actually verify Massively's reporting of these numbers.

As commentary, that's a lot of people in the polls and on the forums. If the forum population is a small percentage of the overall population, how big is SWToR's population going to be? Does that caveat only apply to games that have released for awhile? Do more people respond in polls than on the forums themselves?

I went to the swtor forums regularly..  I think I remember the poll in question.

I don't remember any poll on the SWTOR forums reaching over a few thousand.

I pre-ordered swtor on 21st of july and looking forward to the game immensely just in case you think I am a hater

^^^ agreed.  Although most of my time was in the testing forum I did visit the other forums and never saw a poll that high.

the thread you are talking about did not have a million votes not even close.. last I checked it couple days ago it was around 30k which is a lot for a poll but a million is a huge exaggeration

I think the million figure is just a clever use of words.  The Million figure is probably the registered users of the forums. Therefore that is potential pool of voters for any poll on the forums.  

Its a bit like elections here in the UK they talk about 70million voters, but only percentage of them actually vote.

I can also verify that the said poll had no where near a million voters - I voted in it and it had only a few thousand as of a day or two ago.

I am a little sceptical that over a milion people voted on a poll.

It was 12000 and some change before the forums went down. Don't know where he pulled that one million from.

Sure more people answer pools than post on forums. Even more people are just registered on forums and reading only, and even more are unregistered viewers.

Forums impact and how much people read forums is usually undervalued.  Sure only very limited pepple post on forums but MUCH MUCH more just read them. Forums are so popular atm, than I think "small % read forums" is obsolete statement.

Still maybe miniority read them, but not small minority but quite a sizeable one even in terms of %.

You have facebook, myspace and twitter and similar things to thank for getting 'causal' people getting use to read forums, news and comments. Even if huge majority of them will never post.

I saw a poll hit 200k it was something regarding ship battle or something. 3 options all mostly evenly divided lol.

They went well over a million registrants quite a while ago, and made a big hubub about it. To sign-up/participate in the beta you had to be registered on the forums, and what was the article last week? They had over two million people registed and signed up for it. So I'd say that with your "clever use of words", you'd be off by more than 1/2 of what the amount of actual people registered on the forums actually was.

Like most everyone else here though, I dont think I ever saw a poll there that had over several thousand responses, and nothing ever close to a million.
