It can be hard as hell to get companies to help you even recover your passwords. I Lost so many games on steam and MMORPG companies and only companies that ever eventually gave me my accounts back where blizzard and NCSoft ( 5 months of run around via email, finnally decided to try phone support and got help right away) FYI Seems like NCsoft is one of the few companies that actually helps you via phone, unfortunately thier email support is useless like everyone elses i delt with. I never had to call blizzard though since they actually helped me via email when my account got stolen twice and when my dial -in auth phone number got disabled they helped me right away via email. So yeah i am kind of hesitent to keep all my eggs in one basket if you know what i mean.

to add to that. Even if you do get caught say aimbotting/wallhacking in counter-strike source and you get a VAC ban for that, the only thing you will lose your access to will be multiplayer servers which are protected by VAC and even that will spread to specific engines/games. That is VAC ban in CS: Source doesn't influence your ability to play MW2 or CS: Condition Zero. EA + Origin = Where I bought SWTOR and BF3.
There's this amazing thing in the world. It's given out for free, can be tricky to use at first and is definitely not always the most satisfying option.
It 100% completely negates any chance of an Origin account EVER getting banned by EA.
It's called Self-Control.
No matter what internet-drama story you want to come up with, theres always still the much more valid, EULA-abiding side of just being the better person and not devolving down to bannable-troll levels. So someone aimbotted or called you a name, or some other petty grievance. Well, use the in-game reporting tools, or more over, the Not-A-Public-Forum reporting tools or e-mail address' that just about every game and company has. Wanting to go rage on the forums is like barreling your car into a mall to scream for police that someone just stole your wallet. There's always a better way to go about the same thing without resorting to any self-righteous or attention-grabbing stunts.
And say someone does try to sue for denying access, it probably won't be a broad enough issue for class-action. Besides, those trials records would be amazing to read or watch. I can see it now: "You were banned for making inappropriate posts to a forum, correct?" "Yes your honor" "Now, would you please explain to the jury and the court why you felt you needed to call Company X the following 2 page list of over 40 unique vulgarities and ethnic slurs, while knowing your were posting on a private forum?"
Because that's the thing. Do you want to spend your money to get a lawyer, goto court, then have to answer that question while sworn under oath? You can sue, but they can defend and counter-sue just as easily. Lets Push Things Forward I knew I would live to design games at age 7, issue 5 of Nintendo Power. Support games with subs when you believe in their potential, even in spite of their flaws. |

I always believed punishment should be proportional to the offense. It seems EA takes it one step further. Regardless of how I feel about asinine behavior online, that is just dumb. Then again their house their rules. It's just another reason not to buy anything EA related. It's funny how software pirates doesn't have to deal with this stuff |

If your account is hacked, then it's probably best if they shut down access across accounts until it's fixed. The amount of times it's due to a keylogger, or the like, is very large and those tend to get all accounts and passwords. As such, they are helping protect players from losing all their stuff across games which can take weeks to get straightened out -AND- come back to bite the player if they missed one that they hadn't played in a while. A central account system means the list can be sent and you then can clean your system, change all the passwords and get back to gaming more quickly and cleanly. If it's banned for EULA issues - no sympathy. Exercise some self control, develop manners and/or don't cheat at the games to get you banned. Someone that is an ass-hat in one game, tends to be so across their games and those types of players aren't needed. Upside: Better protection if you are hacked and the ability to cleanly fix the problems across games, in 1 shot - then get back to gaming with all those "hacked!" problems corrected. Downside of this? Someone can't be a cheat or jerk in a game. They'll need to be more polite plus follow the rules or the penalties will be across the games. I doubt most will miss the mouths and cheats that keep showing up across games. It may be fun for those doing so but it tends to ruin gaming for many others. Long term: They help get rid of those players that cost the game companies customers and impove those players gaming experience. I really don't see any major downside to this. |

Originally posted by I_Return I want to make sure everyone is on the same page here with how Steam handles Vac bans.
No, forum bans will not lead to a Vac ban just because you got a forum ban. No, I've never seen any "rage" get anyone Vac Banned Yes, if you are Vac banned in one game, you are Vac banned in all games that use Vac on that account requing you to play in non Vac servers, which are usually aimbot festivals. |

Correction for your last point and it is something I already posted before. Your VAC ban spreads only to the games on the same engine. That is, ban in CS: Source will affect TF2 but not Modern Warfare 2 or CS: Condition Zero.
