I haven't played in Beta, from what I understand the Sage class is a healer. What is the mirror class to the sage? Can someone explain to me a little bit of their gameplay - is there an offensive healer class or advanced tree? I don't mind healing as required, but I do like to do lay a little bit of smackdown as well. Thanks!

Originally posted by zigmund Sage's mirror would be the sith sorcerer. also commando, mercernaries, operatives, and scoundrels all have healing trees as well.
Also with all these healer classes they do have dps trees. Also with itemization as is your healing gear isvery similar to your dps gear, so dpsing with your healer specced toon will be feasible. |

Sith Inquisitor Sorcerer. and yes you can an off healer, gameplay-wise you generally stay at the back flinging lightening you also get a tank as a companion straight away. i specced in healing and also specc'ed a little bit into other trees to buff up force lighting move, as that was my main offensive power. as a sorc i barely ever used my lightsaber either. |

Originally posted by gaou In the end you just choose the one with most attractive gameplay, i was hoping for a mellee type of healer, but that isn't there. I am pretty sure for those concerned about endgame that all 3 healers will be ballanced by the time most of us reach max level.

If I play a healer, it will probably be a Trooper. I love the idea of healing people by shooting them in the face. |

Originally posted by zigmund I took a Sith Sorcerer to 27. Not very far but far enough to get a good feel for the class. The Sage/Sorcerer are the closest thing TOR has to traditional healers from other MMOs. You wave your hands around and good s**t happens to your mates.
The other healers look and feel much more unconventional: shooting heals out of their blasters or sending little floating robots to heal you. That's not to say that they are not effective--they are and the jury is still out on which healer will be the best in PVP, 4-man groups or raids.
Early on and certainly up to the level I played, the class has a damn good mixture of heals and DPS. It was very rare that I ever found myself doing nothing but spamming heals and you don't even have to spec as a healer to heal at that level: all sages/sorcerers get some basic heals regardles of whether you spec as a healer or DPS and up to the mid-20's those basic heals and especialy the damage shield bubble will do the job. I'm sure later on, at or near max level, speccing healing will make a huge difference and DPS sage/sorcerers will be no better than occasional emergency healers. But earlier you can mix healing with DPS as much as you want.
All in all, it's a fun class to play that appeals to me the most because it's more familiar to me. I'm sure others will prefer a different healer type.
If you do roll one, although I mentioned it above, it's worth repeating: your best tool early on is the damage shield. It's not a token shield like in other MMOs. It absorbs a good chunk of damage, especially if you spend the points to improve it. The biggest challenge all sorcerers/sages have early on is running out of force. Regardless of whether you want to DPS or heal, it's worth taking the abilities that give you +100 force and the ones that reduce the cost of all your heals or nukes by 9%. They happen to be in one of the two DPS trees but you'llbe glad you spent your points there first.
Hope that answers your question. |

As healing goes in ToR expect to be busy as a healer, its not a one key thing like WoW, you have to work at it to be effective or you run out of power/mana what ever your class uses. |

Originally posted by zigmund Go to www.TORhead.com and play with their skill tree builder. You can experiment with healer builds there. There are Healer "skill trees" for all classes but the Jedi Kinght ans Sith Warrior. No dule specing so if you want to do dps and heal, you waon't be as good as a healer that focuses on a healing skill tree.

Originally posted by Watface I agree to a point, being a sycophant doesn't help incompetent people get better, but simply saying "go look it up" doesn't foster a positive impression to newcomers to the game, nor to the types of people playing it. A simple "here's a link, read on" is a far more positive, and instructive.

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Yes, there is a melee healer.. Kinda.. They need to be up close for any dmg abilities. Like the IA operative, they have like Shiv and short range abilities, and stealth. So if you went up the DPS tree on the Operative, you would be like a rogue like.. With healing. I guess the same is for scoundrel, some of them get scattergun and shotguns, whish are close range. |

Did any one else actually play any (preferably 2 or 3)of the healing classes to mid 20 or higher, and would he be willing to share his opinions with us? Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |
