This game will attract many types of players. Some are diehard fans of Biowares single player RPGs, others are bored of their current themepark MMO and others just like Star Wars.
I fall into the category of being sick of themepark MMOs but like the single player aspect of SW:TOR. This means that I would enjoy leveling characters in SW:TOR but am not particularly interested in running instances or PVPing. This means that I won't be buying the game on release, because I'd like to casually level my characters like I would in a single player RPG.
If they made leveling content available as long as you buy the game, but instances, pvp and such available only to subscribers I would be all over this game. And they'd have a good chance of getting me to go and subscribe. Instead, I'll probably buy skyrim and wait for D3 and GW2. |

Go to the SWTOR forum and suggest this. I think they still haven't made up their minds on what type of subscription/income model to use yet. Regardless, I wouldn't let the reasons you gave stop you from playing. The normal leveling storylines are absolutely outstanding. I've seen many people on diffrent forums talk about taking their time to level. This is not a game that you just want to rush to end-game, though many still will out of habiit or learned behavior.

The amount of pre-orders this game has gotten with it already announced payment options beg to differ.

Skyrim sold 3.4 million boxes in two days.
The model I describe wouldn't have prevented any of the existing sales, it would have added new ones. The debate is how many people skip the game, $60 loss per person, because of the monthly fee versus how many pay the monthly fee just to level after the first month. |

worst thing tor could do is to go ftp in any form, imo. |

Sure, you might play it again later, but most people get burnt out. |

I bought Skyrim to keep mee entertained until SWTOR launches. My feeling is that Skyrim is trash compared too TOR. I can't bring myself to play it Skyrim anymore.

Not to get into the skyim tor debat. I personally didnt like skyrim but love bioware single player rpgs there story is just better. Weather its companions or not i dont know why but they just are to me Realize i said to me it means its my opinion not fact . That said why go with a freemium model when u dont have to. when u have over 1 million pre orders already and given that more people buy launch day the preorder games , they have no need to go this route. They are sub game with 15 dollar a month fee and yes they have decided that already. Tor is a good enough game to ask for a 15 dollar a month fee in my opinion and many others. Oh if i didnt mind negative comments id just go to torwars or such sites. I dont care if people dont like tor , i just dont like when they spout lies about tor. that said tor is a good enough game in my opinion to warrent the sub fee. |

Why do people try to compare a single player game to an MMO? Skyrim and TOR are two different beasts, sure you can play TOR along, but you are still in an active world wit other people. Skyrim you will always be along and there will never be interaction with other RL people. After a while Skyrim will end because the content is not limitless, where as TOR can continue on for years with new content and new single player adventures. Skyrim can continue on for years as well, but it'll will never evolve pass what it was released as. |

ask the skyrim fans. not me lol I think when u compare skyrim it shoudl be to bioware single player games i personally like bioware games better but tahts me and my taste. skyrim is a very good game i just didnt have any fun in it and i dont know why i just didnt I enjoy my time in bioware games much more. That said tor is a very fun mmo for me and ill gladly pay a sub. I hate free 2 play games with gates i have to pay to get past i so dont want a freemium or free 2 play model. |

I disagree, OP. Swtor is not cut out for that model, and such a change would highlight certain flaws of the that are only seen after dozens of gameplay hours.
More importantly, Skyrim is a better game overall.

Thr Freemium model is always a kick in the junk for those who still want to pay. Theres always scads of things in the item shop that isn't covered by the sub price. I hope they don't go this way. |

unless this game tanks like lotro, ddo and aoc its not going this route. Tor is gonna be a sub game for many many many years. They have alot of pre orders . more then a million in us alone. This game wont go free 2 play anytime soon there is more then enough content to keep playres playing for quite some time despite the doom and gloomers , tor is a fun enjoyable game to play. They forget in the end thats all that matters Its why they never are right when predicting wows demise cause even after 7 yrs wow is still a fun game. Its why they will be wrong with tor , tor is a well made smooth playing game tahts alot of fun and whose story adds an element that leaves those of us that like this game wanting more. |

Originally posted by hayes303 I agree. Store exclusives and shopping in the item mall aren't how I like to game. I also hope they don't go this way. I don't even plan on playing this game (I'm happy in my current P2P MMO). I just hope this is another successful P2P game. I would really like to see the freemium business model diaf. |

So your point is: "Even though ToR might sell 3 million boxes, they could have made MORE money?"
I don't think you have many players in WoW going "If they only lowered the sub rate, they could make more money." They don't care because WoW is already making tons so more doesn't do anything for them. |

The sub fee equals fifty cents per day. I lose more than that out of my pockets when I sit down. |
