Conquer Online recently became one of the first MMOs to jump to iPad from its traditional home on the PC or Mac. We've had some time to try out Conquer Online on iPad and have a few thoughts to share in this preview. Check it out!

The allure of an iPad mobile version of any MMO is an obvious one. I’d love to be able to carry something like Torchlight with me when it finally goes into the MMO territory down the road. I don’t think many behind the back viewed third-person MMOs would work well, but the devices are perfectly suited to the top-down vantage of games like Diablo. It was with a great deal of excitement that I downloaded Conquer Online to my iPad 2 last week because of this. I’ve never played CO, but from screens and video it looked like a perfectly serviceable hack and slash grinder import. I mean that in the best way possible. But what I was confronted with instead was a nearly direct port of the PC version to the iPad, complete with a virtual mouse pointer, misplaced UI, and one of the longest most boring opening tours of any game.

the ipad for all it's fancy shiny.  is still a tablet.  still has the limits of lower grade cpus, limited storage, limited RAM,  limited GPU.

i think it's asking too much to want a full featured mmo on a slate computer.   at least for the forseeable future

They should put UO on the iPad.

I may give it a shot, but the game that has me snagged is Celtic Heroes. It's free, for the iPad, and reminds me of the classic elements of Everquest 1 and Asheron's Call 1, except with modern controls. It is Order and Chaos without the fee and the obvious WoW-clone graphics. Try it out and see what you think. Based on what I've seen so far of iPad games, there is no reason they can't finally be treated in the same fashion as non-tablet MMO's. Seeing some of these games made for the larger iPad screen would surprise some people. Check out Gameloft's games, some of them mimic games like Modern Warfare, are fantastic, fun, and provide the same level of re-playability as their higher-end FPS bretheren. Don't hate, I'm no fanboy, but I have been more impressed with the games being released for the iPad than those being released in the PC market for sure (Skyrim being the exception :) MMO-wise there are options, and good ones, I'm glad to see MMORPG.com reviewing these games. this game has the best pvp system ever, and the worst cash shop possible.
PvP focused game where you can buy in game money with real life money and just make or buy the best weps/armor (mind you not for a couple of hundred but more like a few thousand US dollars) and just own everyone.
