Originally posted by Martinmas I was going to say the same thing. There are some other issues I had with the video as well. These are supposed to be "professional" game reviewers but they didn't know you can press the spacebar to skip the cut-scenes? In my profession, that's like not knowing how to boot into safe mode. Spending most of the video complaining about the #1 feature of the game is like complaining that you have to drive cars in Gran Turismo. I definiltey do not think SWTOR is a great MMO game, but I question if any of the people in the video even played it. "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

Originally posted by Vhaln But if you don't care about the story, why would you regret a decision? The light/dark side choices are color coded. Just skip the dialogue and press the red number, over in 3 seconds. Anyway, I don't understand why someone who would want to skip all of the story would even bother playing SWTOR. That's the only thing the game has going for it. "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

It varies. I think some people are more ambivelent about the story, and just want it to hurry up. Or its just, you know how perfectionist people can be about their MMO characters - if you make a choice you don't like the outcome of, you can't reload or anything. Even if people don't care about most of the story, they still want to make the right choices.
I actually did enjoy some of the dialogue, but other parts would get on my nerves, I'd start spacebarring through. Only to get annoyed when I'd pick a dialogue option, and it wasn't what I expected, because I hadn't been listening. Would happen almost every time, too. So I felt like I had to stop doing that.

It matters little if this PREVIEW. PREVIEW. was made by Gamepro or IGN or someone else. One should be critical of all journalism no matter the source and judge by themselves.
It seems to be that quite a few people base their opinion on journalistic articles(previews and reviews) instead of informing themselves. This is a strong social conditioning and sign of personal weakness. Fight the power, and stop giving these outlets your energy of care and/or rage. It matters absolutely nothing. It only matters when people get offended angry and thus put meaning in such. |

Originally posted by Vhaln The thing is, if you play the game the way YOU want to instead of the way you were INTENDED to, then you get what you deserve. If you don't care about story, then to be honest, there are other games out there. But complaining because you decided to do something and then don't like the outcome of it? It's your own fault and the only person you have to thank for it is yourself. I do have to agree with some of the other posters here as well. I don't understand how someone who has been in testing since "friends and family" can NOT know about companions AND using most of the "article" to complain about one feature is a waste of my time. Ok, you don't like that feature . . . move on and tell me the rest. Lastly, these "professional reviewers" must be able to communicate much better in a written article than they do on camera. If not I don't think they would have a job right now. "If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?" |

Originally posted by Kalfer You are absolutely right. Personally I tend to go by personal experience OR word of mouth from friends and family. At least then I know the people, what kinds of things they like and dislike, and why. That gives me a MUCH better understanding of if I will like a game or not. Originally posted by GMan3 You act as if an act of yellow journalism has accurred, no these are just people who make a living reviewing games. And have done so for a long time now. Your starting to sound like the people who belive that Barack Obama is a Chinese spy and we shouldn't believe anything he says because he is really a cyborg from Kenya with lazer eyes and that all news sources are spy agencies trying to plant false realities in our head, and that lord Xenu is real. Seriously it's not like these are the only people giving TOR a bad review right now, theres a lot of people including Beta testers far from thrilled with The old Republic, and its largely for the exact same reasons in this review. And when this game is released very soon from now they will still have those problems with the game. But I do enjoy the humor with people trying to make TOR out to be serious journalistic subject matter with great social import. Fight the power omg, seriously dude? |

The things that got me most was: The one guy who had only played a coulpe of hours and already played 3 classes? I call BS on that. There is no way to explore 3 classes in that short of time. I played the last beta weekend and got 1 class to 18, another to 17 and a third to 9. That was over 30+ hours of playing. There is no way he got more than level 3 or 4 per class. Yeah I am really going to trust ANYTHING that he says! NOT! The lady that had not experienced a companion and been playing since friends and family? Yeah right. The entire video was entertaining at least. I got to laugh many times during it. I am not saying the game doesn't have its faults. pretty much since WoW, I have turned into a hit space bar, ignore the quest text, accept it and go do it. For me, its refreshing to have an actual story. The one lady that talked about the dialog being horrible and then was like, its star wars, what do you expect? I LOL'd many times at that one. The voice acting is superb in the game and you can tell that many of the actors from mass effect and dragon age and others are lending their voices to star wars also. The dialog, in my opinion, in most cases, is very well thought out and works well with what you are going to be doing.
I think one of my biggest issues is their attitudes. They obviously dont give a crap about story lines. Anyone who has followed star wars at the slightest, knows that they have said over and over again at how story driven this game is going to be. Why all the hate on the story? You don't like story driven games, then dont play them and dont review them. To me, that is the worst kind of person. Its like someone who hates dill pickles, goes out and finds a recipe called dill pickle soup, makes it, then yells at the person who created the recipe and tells them how bad it was and how bad it tasted like dill pickles. If you know you cant stand the taste of dill pickles, why would you make it? These reviewers are dill pickle haters, I'm telling ya! |

First of all, the title says "bad opinion of SWTOR"; there is no such thing as a bad opinion. That is an oxymoron and secondly people need to try not flaming others just because they don't like their opinion. |

Honestly imo it seems only fanboys think swtor is a good/great game. Anyone else see's it for what it is, a dull wow clone that should have just been a single player game and not a mmorpg. I'd personally rateit 6/10 and the major detractors in the rating was the overall gameplay was just to put it simply... was boring as shit. It was just the same been there done that shit we have done in so many other mmo's with nothing really attempted to be new or innovative to make it feel diffrent even a little bit diffrent, yeah it has voice overs but your still doing the exact same shit as in WoW or any other wow-like mmo. Even the classes were bascally copy and pasted from world of warcraft, alot of the abilities feel the exact same as the same class in wow would get. You can argue with me about this, but deep down you know its true and the people calling swtor just a generic wow clone pretty much hit the head on the nail when describing the game. I'd have expected to see bioware at least try to do something intersting, but they totally copped out it seems. I honestly expect most of the playerbase to quit after the free month, like what happened with rift, and the other wow clones that came out. There will still be enough to make a profit for bioware though, you hunestly don't even need 50k subs to turn a profit, bandwith and hiring 1 monkey to make sure the servers stay up don't cost all that much. Me? I might buy swtor anyway, even though its just a biliant wow clone, mainly because I am just bored and got nothing better gamewise to buy around the timeframe swtor comes out, I doubt i'll stay past the free month though, during the last beta weekend by the 2nd day I was already getting bored with the game, due to combat always being the same thing over and over. Had a lv 14 or 15 bounty hunter, and a trooper. Trooper kinda sucked, it had the same skill and damage potental as a BH, but was boring to watch, when compared to the cool skills the BH gets. Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either: A. Proven right (if something bad happens) or B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens) Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime! |

The video review is a troll. They're taking the mick out of people who don't play the game enough and hate on SW:TOR for the sake of hating. |

Your education fails you. If you have a bad back, you can go get a doctor's opinon, or you can go get the opinion of a postal worker. One of them will obviosly have a better opinion than the other, in fact one of them will have a worthless opinion. Whatevr you do, take this with you: Opinions are like as**oles, some are intelligent, but most of them are flat out ignorant. |
