Originally posted by kanechart For me, the game actually started around level 8, when my class quests as a trooper started to get really cool. But yeah, it does get a lot better at 10+, and the starter areas are just one story/tutorial to introduce the game. They could have done a better job with the starter areas, but as someone mentioned earlier, games like AoC had an awesome starter area and the game seemed like it would be great, and then it started to suck later. I'd much rather have it designed the way SWTOR is instead, to open up more and more as you progress. I think it is designed this way as more of a choice to be like a book or movie since the game is so story driven, as in starts off with everything as it was, and it builds to a climax, to go along with the tale they are weaving. However, I must say that for some reason the Jedi/Sith starter areas and quests seemed a lot less fun than the other classes. I think those classes will get fun later from what I have heard about their stories, but because you start off as a padawan, it seems kinda small in scope, whereas the other classes start off mostly with your character already being awesome and cool. |

I had the most fun from 1-10,then the repetitive game play starts to get boring.I played so many players,i even noticed the same trend for quests ,just repeated with a light twist. In your first 10 levels you are actually attaining your Light Sabre so it has a bit of an epic feel to the game. You also get to enjoy those very good opening movies.I actuall yenjoyed to login and keep trying different players, but after level 10,i felt the game got very boring as i was starting to nod off while playing. At level 10 i actually felt the game got much worse, because i detest that "TREE" design with it's fake customization. You add a 2% here or there and capped at 2/2 pts ,that you only get one per level,it truly is extremely trivial junk. I prefer a game to design some meaningful stuff to give us at each level, i don't want to look over 90 boxes that all do almost notihng. I actually chose a Sage on one of my players and i actually got quite miffed. They gave my Sage a 180 heal.Well you never need heals on regular mobs but on Captains or any higher elite mob ,that 180 heal was a complete joke.My Companion tank who was VERY well equipped with heavy armour was taking damage so fast, the 180 heal was a waste of time.I found it is more constructive to just add dps and kil lthe mob faster, therefore taking less damage, you see it all just balances out to the same result. I was not happy because i had hoped with the added heal ,the combat woud ladd soem versatility. The whole time previous it was Companion and me both attacking, now after getting my Sage,it is til lthe exact same thing.I actually feel my player has not changed at all and i got that Sage to level 15. I wish there was a lot more effort putinto the combat design, seeing every set of mob in groups of 3 gets real old fast.Sure there is the odd non group of 3 but VERY rare. There is no combos,so being in a group to have some fun with player>player combos is not there. BTW the game has VERY little content, just barely enough to play the questing treadmill. Also there is only two models [male/female] in the entire game lmao, sad.Well aside from R2D2 but all the humanoid characters share the same model. The aggro is all proximity doesn't feel realistic at all. I can see and understand what Bioware was trying to do in this game. They were trying to create large epic worlds, and did a good effort trying to fill them, but that huge task forced them to half ass everything,it was just too much work for them.

Originally posted by Teala I've said it before and I'll say it again.....some of us just don't care for tutorials, and enjoy the game better once we get to the real "meat" of it. But I'm not surprised you don't like the game. I could have told you it wasn't your style. You'll notice that none of us have come into the EVE forums and talked smack about YOUR game of choice though....and I for one so easily could. I've tried EVE a bunch of times over the years, and always ended up falling asleep. How anyone could find entertainment in a flying spreadsheet is beyond me. See what I did there?? |

Originally posted by Wizardry the skill trees to me is a huge letdown and seem to be a huge afterthought. I honestly think they spent 100 mil just on voice acting and script writers and left that last 30 for everything else. But it is star wars and you get to be a jedi and play with lightsabers and be a bounty hunter so me and thousands of others will pay and play for at least the first month. I just really don't see this one going the distance which makes me very sad cause I had such high hopes.... http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/339443/Video-FollowUp-Guide-For-Enhancing-Graphics-and-Performance-in-SWTORSorry-still-Nvidia-Only.html |

Originally posted by Teala Then you're saying that virtually every MMO ever made is a badly designed game? Because with a very notable few exceptions, they all have pretty lame starting areas. I find the attitude unrealistic, to say the least. Too old for this, am I. |

Originally posted by Icewhite I actually really enjoyed rifts, also age of conans is fun, i enjoyed all of wows starting areas the first play through.. problem is playing this games starting areas aside from the voice acting and the fact its star wars theres the all to familiar be there done that which shouldn't be there in a game with such a huge budget and good company behind it. They could have made these opening zones a million times more exciting than they are. Instead of all the npc sitting in groups of three spread out in set locations they could of made it feel alive. With npc fighting npc's, battles going on, creatures running through the wastelands attacking people. NPC's moving, monsters doing more than standing there lifeless with no purpose(at least in rift the wolfs attack the rabbits). All i'm saying with all the big money and names in this game so much more could of been done... http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/339443/Video-FollowUp-Guide-For-Enhancing-Graphics-and-Performance-in-SWTORSorry-still-Nvidia-Only.html |

Two advises: - play the game in duo with a friend right away. it makes WAY more fun. - it makes a great difference if you enjoy the class, both story-wise and by gameplay. Maybe a dark Sith or a funny Smuggler is more for you. I thought it makes a huge difference to me.

I loved the first 10 levels of the game, didnt feel like a grind for a single second for me. Jeremiah 8:21 I weep for the hurt of my people; I stand amazed, silent, dumb with grief. |

Originally posted by Elikal I have to second the duo suggestion. I played all this weekend in a Smuggler/Trooper duo and again in an Agent/BH duo with a friend and it was a whole different game from the start. Going through with a firend, the both of you going into and out of your respective instances and following each other's stories makes the game a lot more fun than just soloing through it. Plus, we were racking up social points like crazy. It was fun. |

I love the game. My Sith Sorcerer was bad ass... The game Def. opens at lvl 10. At around lvl 15 I got my ship and was given a choice of a few planets to explore, Wich reminds me of a post someone wrote the other day saying SWTOR was very narrow and leading. They also said their wasnt much to do. That is a lie. Theres tons of content early in the game. I made it to lvl 15 and I had a blast doing it. Cant wait to return to my epic adventure Dec. 20th. |

I agree that if a game is not fun from the start then the game is a fail. at least in that respect. there is no excuse to play a bad/boring game just to get to the good stuff... that is silly. Anyway I'm not bashing this game since I have never played it. I'm just generally speaking. |

Originally posted by Teala So I guess those two games you have in your sig are poorly made as well. Because I know for a fact. I found Eve-Online to be boring as hell. Don't even get started on Mount & Blade. That game bored me so much. I don't even have to play it to fall asleep. Just thinking about it is enough. Oh crap started thinking about it..Zzzzzzzz |

Originally posted by Teala Games are even less fun when you have no clue what you are doing. If you started SWTOR being able to que for Warzones, with a companion, a ship, a flashpoint you could do, crew skills, space combat, and 4 man group quests people would be overwhelmed and turned off to the game. These features also give you something to aspire to. The Rift starting area was pretty decieving. The quest structure and scripted content in that area has more quality than most of the questing in the entire game. The funny part is,you don't get to do Rifts until you get out of that area, you cant que for Warfronts until even later, and then you can't que for the dungeon finder until even later. Not to hate on Rift, it is a good game, but the questing in that game is pathetic. Rifts are also incredibly boring (as most Public quest systems are) after you do them 100 times. (Especially solo, which means you essentially can't enjoy Rifts until near max level) Yes the game feels a little stale in contrast to the rest of the game until you get off your starter planet, but thats because I know exactly what to do. If someone comes in that is unfamiliar with the game they won't last the first 10 levels if they have all these different gameplay systems thrown at them. |

I played every "dark" class to about level 13ish this weekend. Yes the grind from level 1-10 is horrible, and if you get a character to a certain level you should be able to start a new character at level 10 (kinda like DDO starting you at level 4) The four sith classes and jedi classes are basically the same with some different bells but not whistles, the quests are eh. I wasn't too impressed. Then I tried my agent. Oh she is so lovely, with the hint of a sexy British accent that only the future Imperials have. The plot and story is deep, really deep and really well done. You can be as bad as you want or you can actually help out a lot of people in the Empire, its not at all like the Sith that force you to make every negative choice. Her sidekick is cool, kinda laid back lets kill everything, but you have decisions to make. I flipped over to the smuggler class, the agent's opposite and hated the storyline. Get your ship back is pretty much the goal and then eh not much else. To me, it depends on your class. For everything I played other than my agent the game starts at 10, however at level 1 as an agent you are immersed and are kinda shocked that all of the sudden you get pulled out of your assignment, get your starship and go since you really don't want it to end. |

Originally posted by arrgy It is a grind cuz you play the game like a job like most of the others playing this game. Hopefully one day gaming companies will release raid content much later so people will actually quest and relax while doing it. Mmorpg community is still so screwed up. |

Takes what, 1 hour max to get to 10 when you've done it before and skip dialogue? For the empire, the game officially opens up once you make it to the imperial fleet space station. I've had a blast. Leveled to to 13 by myself, then rerolled a warrior and did all the SI quests with my friend, and he tagged along on all of mine. Now level 14 is when the Sith Assassin really starts to show it's potential with sprint. if you think this game is slow you must be blind. Do you know what you are doin in most mmo's at level 14? You're killing rats with 2 or 3 hotkeys and having the weakest attempts at duels. In Swtor, merely at level 10, PVP feels fleshed out and what you would expect from higher level PVP in other mmo's.

Originally posted by Teala This is a load of crap, because its not really possible to get any less deep than Rift. At worst they are equal. SWTOR seems like it offers fun from 1-50 whereas Rift was designed for 1-50 to be fairly worthless because the 'game starts at 50'. Not fun for everyone, but if you arent looking for a deep, lasting MMORPG and want something light then SWTOR isnt bad.
I do agree both games represent a step back from even the early modern themeparks (EQ2, WoW). WAR was actually poised to be a step forward but the programmers werent up to the task (same goes with Vanguard). Its disappointing that bioware didnt havea grander vision, but thankfully Arena Net does (hopefully it pans out).
