Thanks for the link, theanimedude If the developers take this project seriously, a Harry Potter mmorpg could be VERY VERY good mmorpg. It is an entirely new genre in it's own right. It wont be 100% fantasy It wont be 100% Sci fi Sadly, it seems, as if the mmorpg industry has just these two mmorpg genres. Not that fantasy is a bad start... Im not a big Harry Potter fan, but if this game is done well (as so far those screenshots are very nice) I'd be one of the first that would try it out. But like I said....it would have to be done right....meaning; the content needs to be very involving, the way you progress needs to be nicely done, etc

Creative control = When the creator of a work makes, as a condition of their approval for a project, that they get final say and/or contribution at every stage of the project. This can be good (RE: Potter Movies) or can be obsessive and difficult (when applied to a relatively freefrom environment such as an RPG or MMO). She seems to have an inherent objection to TTRPGs for some reason and, on the computer, MMOs are probably the closest cousin to those since both contain freeform play, people creating their own characters and backgrounds and an ongoing, partially user-created world. This is the other area that many creators balk at when it comes to game conversions etc. They don't like the idea of others 'playing in their universe' in ways they don't like (take slash fiction for example). For these two reasons I doubt that such an endeavour would get made, or that if it were it would allow as great a degree of freedom as a standard MMO. That or she's a bit hypocritical and enough money CAN sway her mind, but if the movie people couldn't get her to make changes with the amount they throw around, I doubt it.

Does she own the movie lisence as well? If not, the game could be based on the movies just like all the rest of EA's games considering the website says EA will be developing it. Also, who is POGO, it says they are working on it as well...

This could be fun. :) Im not a Harry Potter fan as such athlough I did enjoy the books. Yet Im curious to how this could work. We all know that EA arnt excatly the best in the business for making 'good' games. Yet maybe they could redeem themselfs with this MMO. I know youll have a lot of kids wanting to play it so the game would have to be very very user friendly. As for the PvP side I would expect something similar to the Dueling Club from the books. The Spells and 'leveling' system would be intresting to see. As would how they would use the prefects, quidditch, and the classes (as in lessons). Those enviroment screenshots do look nice espically the inner room with the book piles. :) But will it all be static? or will we see the same style deployed here as in the films with teh staircases, candles and books floating around and various others objects and animations. Also what about the hosues? That could be intresting too? Who wants Hufflepuff? :D Anyway I hope to read and see more about this. It seems like a intresting take on a slowly dying out style. After all we've seen thsi style of game before from big licenses... ToonTown Online for one. Talairina Tsinth PS. Pogo is the online game system that EA uses. http://www.pogo.com Hey I'm mad leave me the hell alone! |

That right there tells me it will be utter crap. EA can't do MMO's. Look what happened to UO, EnB, and MCO...not to mention the MMO's that never came to be *cough* UO2 *cough*. EA does one thing good, and that is make sport games. I'm a fan of the Potter books, and if an MMO were to come out in that universe it could be entertaining...but not with EA having anything to do with it. It'd be an EQ/AC/Diablo 2 clone or something. And yes, if you haven't noticed I don't like EA... |

I fought the whole Harry Potter craze for years, stubbornly insisting that they were kids books and could never hold a candle to 'real' fantasy. However, I caved in just a couple of months ago, and ended up reading all five books in about a week and a half (needless to say, I liked them quite a bit). If this info is real, I'll most likely give it a shot. However, I remain cautious. There are many things they could do wrong in converting the setting to an MMO. |

You know what? I think I'd play it if it actually showed up. There's one simple reason, immersion. If they stick closely to the book they it should have a seemless feel to it, and that's a mmorpg I'd love to play. _________________________ [OLD] - My Open Beta List and Review http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/load/forums/loadforum/584/loadthread/34685/setstart/1/loadclass/35 |

I just found one thing...if you look under the other sections of the portfolio, you can see art work still for EnB. While this may be just for "look what we can do," it also does kind of suggest that the site may be outdated.
Just a thought. |

Well, could be good, might not. If they make it, id likely try it on a beta of free trial, but knowing EA they will probably screw it up so they get as much money as quickly as possible.

They should include mini games like candyland and chutes and ladders, then it'd be perfect
