Greets  here is a list to help you guys.

Haven and hearth. -  do not like the majority of the community.  and i do not like the new LP curio system.

Wurym - Didn't like the fact you had to have a lot of knowledge on misc. skills in order to lvl up the skill you wanted to.(wanna make bows.  better be a good metal smith)  also thought the time to increase skills took a rather long time.

Ryzom - lack of a player base, and the crafting was descent but it felt just blah.  i don't know any other way of puttin it

UnReal world - downloaded it and played it.  but i'm not lookin for a single player game, plus it wasn't as in depth as I like.

Darkfall - I don't like macroing or AFK swimming under the docks

Fallen Earth - don't like the time que on crafting and i dunno, i guess i'm a Fallout Fanatic too much to like FE as a postNuke game.

Eve online -   Liked the game and all sci fiish  but got tired of the time based skill system and the never ending nerf-loophole cycle.

So there ya go.

Would like a survival MMO or whatnot.  would like to be able to do things other than hunt/kill  and would like a server pop, if possible, that's newb friendly

I dunno.  goodluck.

ALSO on somthing COMPLETLY different.

are there any star trek starfleet command type of mmo's out there.  man i liked that game.  fighting enemies, while fixing your ship and desciding whiletryin to focus fire against your enemie's weakend shield.  Too bad it didn't go the MMO route.  that could had been doable.

Pick a number, or at least that's what it feels like these days.  Sad, I know.

Xsyon was the last game I played that I was even remotely impressed with but... small... independent developers have left me scarred for life.  It was/is an incomplete, buggy, lag-fest of a game that has no "newbie" friendliness involved.  Join later in its life and you're screwed... if the devloper even lasts that long.  The player base has also shrunk considerably.

Perpetuum sounded good but it plays about as intutively as a double-hitched semi going in reverse.  You'll spend the entire free trial just trying to figure out what's going on and what to do while things are whizzing by and explosions are happening everywhere.  The game is supposed to be good but it just seems too busy for its own good - small graphics, small print, lots on the screen, etc. and no easy way to figure out what it all does despite having a tutorial.

Uncharted Waters Online used to be a good one that had everything a sandbox MMO player would want... then they become greedy with their F2P model and became invaded by "the Asians" on the NA/EU servers.  You know the gold selling, spammers who serve no purpose in the game world other than to take up space and spam their Web sites.  They also sell "easy buttons" for real money that make you pretty much invulnerable to other players which takes the entire point out of a pirate/trading/ship-based game.

Linkrealms was/is (I haven't looked for a while) an interested twist, but their F2P model also seems to take a priority over actually developing the game.  Adding items you need to spend money on before the game is even out of beta just rubs me the wrong way.  The game itself is also lacking, but since htey spend a good chunck of time making new items to buy, they spend less time building the world and adding features.

Mortal Online is one of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with.  I've requested support from them and asked them questions regardind activating accounts that have gone unanswered for... over a year now.  They sold an Alpha product for $50, it wasn't even Beta quality when they announced the beta test... that they made you pay full price for.  Honestly, I'm done with any game that gets released in that model.  Too many failures in the past for me to even keep track of!

People have amazingly high standards when it comes to this type of niche game, and the market is very stale... because it is a niche genre. Yeah, there is some titles like DFO, MO, etc... but nothing has everything the people want, or even close. Its best to just play something enjoyable until something does happen. DF recently had a promotional weekend and during it people were able to basically max a character in a weekend. Thus, no macroing or swimming is needed. The playerbase is asking for more of these weekends to happen, so if you like the actual gameplay but don't like the grind, keep tabs on the game and even if you start a fresh character you can catch up to endgame within the 2 day weekend.

The problem is, I feel, that Sandbox games do not make money, or enough money.  If they did, then we would all be playing sandbox games.

As for me, I like both. I have enjoyed sandbox games immensely in the past, but also loved a few themepark games along the way.

The genre needs a shakeup, but the shakeup has to be successful. Another flop, or half assed game will just create a stronger pull away from sandboxes.

if you dont mind it is indy 2d mmorpg, you can try Haven & Hearth (if you do mind it is 2d, wait for their next game, salem)

alsp you can try some hybrid sandbox/themepark games (i do consider e.g. Fallen earth to be hybrid) : vanguard or istaria

You hear it from the 200-250 thousand ex-UO players who consider the 'golden age' an accurate representation of the game. (Publish 15~ era).

Personally, I enjoyed the game up until a couple patches after AoS, but ninjas and gargoyles are not my UO and I cannot even hold a conversation with anyone about the current state of the game since then.

I started playing in 98' and I'm still playing today. It was never ruined it just changed with the times like the hole genre has. The really issue here is that your a tool and would rather play WoW instead of the greatest MMORPG ever created.

High Five FTW!

IMO, UO was ruined by Trammel. Once they added the care bear side, the game was never the same. I understand why they did it froma business standpoint. There were so many griefers, that it was annoying to play at times. To me this is what made the game exciting. I played a tailor on the great Lakes shard, and ran vendors out of my house. I had good business, with many friends. Did I get "ganked" for no reason at times? Sure, but this was the wild west of gaming. It was exciting.

I really miss those days, and sadly we will never ever see that type of game again.

I don't play WoW, I play darkfall. It resembles what UO used to be not the carebear fest its turned into. Of course I recognize UO to be the greatest MMO to date, just not the current state of a crapfest that it is.

I'm very curious if you've ever played DF, since you can do everything you listed, although its much harder since housing is rediculously more expensive than UO. But it has vendors, similar crafting, no trammel, more griefers, and best of all character repuation is ten times more influential since its 1 character per server. And if you did play DF, why did you quit? (again, out of curiosity, since it sounds like your the type of person who would enjoy it)

There's a server called Siege Perilous (it's official) that you'd like. Only 1 character per account, NPC's don't buy players items and sell them 5x the amount, and the entire world (including Tel Mur and such) is open PVP. Better than the old days IMO since the economy is mostly player driven and people have to work together as there's a 1 character limit.

Forgot to add no item insurance either, so mostly everything can be looted and stolen.

The only mmo on that list that has a world that gives a gamer a sense of place is Ryzom.

It's the only game that has a world that feels alive. Every other sandbox & themepark have lifeless worlds, they dont give you the feeling that the worlds been around before your character was made and will be after your character is long gone.

Single player games like Skyrim do this in the Sp rpg genre but very few can pull it off on the mmo front.

There is huge problems with SP that I don't wanna go into... but the biggest being that its 2 game types mixed and it doesnt seem to work very well (hense the low population). They should revert the post AoS of siege and it would be a huge hit.

Works just fine for me. What's the problems? I would consider the other servers two game types and Siege and Mugen being just one.

What is Mugen? Im pretty out of date and never heard of it before. Also siege lacks any type of real population unless its drastically changed from when I played it.

Edit: I looked up Mugen, so its just the japanese version of Siege... So i'm getting the population is even lower now on SP? Last time I was logged in, it was hard to get 5 people on the same screen even at popular banks.
