I never played the game. I'm going by what I've heard people say. I haven't really heard that about LotR. It could be even more true for LotR than it is for SW:ToR and people just don't talk about it as much or I've avoided most of the LotR threads. I would be interested in hearing the opinion of someone who's played both games on how they present their stories. Join the League For Gamers. |

I've played both games, and played LOTRO for a few years off and on. I'm definitely a big fan of that game, and until I had a chance to play SWTOR, I felt that Lotro was the most immersive themepark MMO I've ever played. They didn't have a personal story woven throughout the game like TOR does, but they had an epic questline that basically followed the path of the Fellowship from the moment the Nazgul began searching for the ring, through the creation of the Fellowship, and obviously all the way through the events in The Two Towers. Your characer played a small role in that epic questline through most of it, doing things "behind the scenes" that very loosely tied into the actual Ring story. And ocassionally, you are given important missions that directly help some important figures in the lore, including the members of the Fellowship themselves. However, although the story was delivered well and very engrossing, you were always just a perimeter figure in the overall storyline---the guy behind the scenes, always a few steps behind the fellowship and never quite getting the spotlight on you. Tor, on the other hand, puts you front and center right away. You are a hero the moment you talk to your first npc, and you just feel more apart of the world and what is going on in it than you did in LOTRO, simply because in LOTRO the story was about the fellowship, and you helping them out. In SWTOR, the story is about you and you alone. Now, add to that the actual voiceovers in terms of delivery, the choices you make during your quests that determine how you will be viewed by npcs and companions, as well as what options are available to you throughout the game, and you are basically taking what LOTRO did well and improving on it because you have ultimate control over how your story plays out, where in LOTRO it's always going to play out the same way, and you are never going to be the central player in that story.

So, by your logic, people are not allowed to say that a movie, game or whatever is bad unless they can make a better one themselves? Really? People are perfectly allowed to say something that they feel is bad, is bad. I think Bioware will survive... |

The majority of those seemed to like what they experienced. When more impressions will be provided by players in the course of the upcoming weeks and most of them prove to be positive, will you accept it then, or will you ignore them with just yet another reason, and say something like 'you should play longer, just wait for a few months then it'll be different'? (which btw isn't something you did with Skyrim)
The bottomline is very simple, people have different gaming needs and preferences: one person likes this style and type of gaming, another likes that style and type of gaming, and then you have a third that likes both styles and so on. There'll be people who'll be having an awesome time and hell of a blast with SWTOR just like gamers did with WoW and LotrO and RIft and so on, and there'll be people who feel they're having no fun at all, just like happened with former MMO's as well. SWTOR doesn't cater to all styles, so you'll definitely have people who just don't enjoy it what SWTOR has to offer, just as you'll have people who enjoy the set of features that SWTOR does have to offer.

Personally I like to see a number of them as 'MMO grinches', sort of a 'bah, humbug' mindset The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's |

Originally posted by rt33 Ok, a few things: 1. People aren't allowed to change their mind? It's not as if that never happens, people changing their mind if they got a closer look at things or being able to get another play, experience different aspects of the game or just a more interesting gaming experience. People changed their mind to the negative after playing, others changed their mind to the positive after playing.
2. You were the one mentioning normal, regular players, that you don't trust sites and mags. I stated that there have been a whole lot of common people giving SWTOR a shot and posting their impressions about their gaming experiences. You were the one saying that you only trusted normal player experiences, well, there's enough of those that have been around.
3. "For some it's not their cup of tea, others it'll be a fun month or two, and for others it'll be heaven on earth." Kinda what I've been saying all the time. Different people, different tastes, bnothing wrong with that, if SWTOR doesn't do it for some people, there's always other MMO's around - or other style of multiplayer games or singleplayer RPG games if that scratches their personal gaming needs and taste. Just about the only comment here, I can agree with. I'm not interested in ToR, and the Vblog actually made me less interested; not sure how that works. I'm sure it'll be a hit though.
Pockets' is cute! G4 should give you a job, you've got good camera presence and a great voice. |

No I do not work for an advertising company. Everything you hear in my videos are my opinions on a video game and no one elses (well, I mean people can have the same opinion lulz XD). I have a really bad memory so I write down everything I want to address in the video (sometimes there are TONS of things!). I'll try to get better about not sounding like I am reading =) Thanks for the feedback! I am also working on a transcript to go with future episodes. In regards to me not liking TOR before... It's not that I didn't like it, it was just that I was skeptical. I'm skeptical of every unreleased game. And, before I have a chance to play it, I'm not going to call it "good" or "bad". I've played TOR a bit now, I think I can definitely form a first impression of it, at least for myself ~.^ |

I dont know if you ment to do this or not but you did and thats why people watch one persons video over someone elses. Not only quality of the video but content. Personally I cant stand video's that basically just say "OOOOH ITS SO PURTY". |

She spend time to make an impression video for you to watch, and the only thing you complain about is her audio and reading skills.
Good or bad, it was a great effort. Be grateful of what you get.
Some people just don't like seeing other people enjoying games they don't like. honestly, gtfo How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? |

Maybe I just needed that extra little nudge to buy the game, but this video was the one to do it. If I had to criticize anything, it would be the music volume. Having it at a level easily overpowered by her words would be great. I'm honestly looking forward to seeing more from her. She's a good compliment to RipperX. |

It would of been nice if this was an actual video with objectives look at the game. But this is not, it is a viral campaign by EA / Bioware. I feel we will see a new method of marketing with bIoware with this video being one of many viral adverts. It is a complete turn off for me to see how marketing out ways what is inside of the game, |
