i had alot of great times in mortal online until i finally quit that game out of frustration. but great game if the bugs were not there.

what i would like to see would be a "first jungle impression":D that would be a guy running around for anything between 1 hour and i think 4 days is the most i have heard of. the guy lost in 4 days was Kubalay if anyone remember him:D

It's like a bad version of Darkfall...
Lots of promise with nothing being fulfilled. Never thought someone would make a worse version of darkfall.
As always, good video RipperX. Just need to get some Umberto videos on here now.

Definitely, the first time in the jungle could be quite an experience.  I remember going in to explore, and had "some" trouble getting out.  Nighttime made it even more challenging.

I understand what you're saying about the bugs.  They've got more work to do, but the game has been slowly improving.  For me, it provides a pretty unique experience that still keeps me playing.

Looks like RipperX went in thinking he was going to be able to give allot of information right off the bat. Unfortunately, MO is one of those sandbox games that takes awhile before you can get to the good stuff....considering you have the patience to get that far and can ignore allot of the things that need fixed.

Wow.. was that just a 9 minute video of a "MMORPG" which did not include any players other than RipperX?  I know he commented around 3.5 minutes in that he hadn't seen anyone.  I am pretty sure the rest of the way there wasn't a single other player on screen.

I knew the population was really bad, but not a single person in the whole video?!?!?

Not a huge surprise.  He started in Toxai, which has almost always had little population.  It's just too far out of the way, and too sprawling inside, to be convenient.

Good place to skill up woodcutting on certains trees, however.

The population isn't huge, but there's enough people to play with.

Spin it all you want.  I just watched a 9 minute video (edited to apparently cut some of the more boring parts) where not one single player was seen.  This not only included Toxai but also Fabernum which is one of the largest cities in the game.  Guess what, it was empty too.

Mortal has always fallen well short of the massively part of the MMORPG... this video even fell short of the multiplayer part.

I'll just say that I did enjoy the video though.  Wish he had left in the whole part where he was dead.  Looks like he just remade his character and picked a new starting area.

My experience with MO:

Played for about 6 days - got some mining / woodcutting skills up to increase my stats.  Killed some pigs or something and got some mats. Ended up adventuring a little bit outside of town. It was night out. Got killed by someone instantly. Once I went to ghost form I tried to find a healer for about 2.5 hours. Could never find one and eventually went so far out of my way once I finally did get res'd up I was so far away from anything that I had recognized that I quit the game due to a major headache.

I don't necessarily require the game to be user friendly. I like the idea behind it, but something are better on paper than they are in actuality. I played UO for 4 years, and counterstrike for 10. FPS and Sandbox games are not new to me. But this game is so beyond noob friendly it's crazy.  I mean even UO started you with a practice weapon so you could kill a rabbit or dog.

Oh well - maybe one day i'll go back. One thing that I was told and completely agree with.. Someone said that if you're able to make it through 1 month of the game, chances are you will be hooked for the long run. But most people don't make it that far.

Yes, That pretty much sums it up.

If you want a more accurate review of the game I would play the free trial for a week and see if you like it.

Ripper started in a less populated area in Mortal.  In my opinion the best place to start would be Fabernum or Meduli.  There's a lot of people there and you'll probably find someone guild recruiting.

Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!

Actually if you watch the video, he makes a  second character AT FABERNUM... and guess what?   No one is there either.

Just read the forums and everyone is complaining about how unbelieveably bad the population is now.  The best that the fans hypothesize is that everyone who is gone is playing Skyrim and they will come rushing back to Mortal when Territory Control releases... whenever that may be.

Sure, I guess that's theoretically possible, but this is the same exact line being touted before the failed DAWN expansion (without the Skyrim excuse) and after an initial surge of trial accounts the population sunk back to the relative size of a Warband server instead of an MMO.

Anyhow, this is about the video by RipperX, and it's QUITE clear from the 9 minute video that there is a massive population issue currently.

This video basically shows off MO's graphics (which are quite good, no doubt about it), but there are zero gameplay; no player interaction, no combat, no crafting or gathering. No other players on screen whatsoever.

So, what are shown is basically some pretty models and landscapes.

MO does looks good and if you're the type of player who likes a challenge you'll get hooked on the game initially because of the sense of freedom it offers.

Once you've played it more extensively however, the frustration will kick in. There is no content besides random, useless PvP, the pop is ridiculously low, there are tons of bugs, exploits and horrible design issues, the dev team is skeletal nowadays and the development process is extremely slow (and full of bizarre prioriries, like making complex gene systems for mounts instead of focusing on fixing the broken core systems).

The AI is a joke and there is no PvE except when farming stupid mobs for mats. There is a huge amount of grind. A char can be maxed in days, but to do anything worth doing you'll spend months grinding away for mats, gold, and resources. And once you've accomplished something, be ready to lose it due to bugs and exploits. The customer support is terrible, corrupt GMs and forum mods are abundant and the usual response to exploiting is that nothing can be done about it.

It's a shame really because MO could be a great game. It has so many great concepts and ideas, but the devs are just too incompetent and inexperienced to save it.

problem with this game, another game with a bad launch, small company running it...no population.  Need a quality company to launch a nice sandbox like this.

Unfortunately he picked the absolute worst place to start a new character. That town is so hard to get in and out of and is so far away from all of the main action in Nave...

I think he would have had a much smoother time in Meduli of Fabernum. I know I did.

This is a fantastic game, more like UO should have evolved to..  Darkfall has great PvP (though balancing and variety in DF needs a lot of work). This game is a great PvP game with depth that DF cannot hope to match atm. PvP is "slower" but more intense, and like DF (but unlike most other games) requires MUCH more real player skill.

The possibilites for building empires, taking over territories and politics are great.  Its one of the few games I know where you can really get lost while exploring the lands..  Check it out if you know anything about Ultima Online type of game.  One of my definite favourites!!
