My question is. Why would anyone expect a sandbox game from bioware? Amazing storylines is where they excel. Why would that change for an MMORPG?

Skyrim is a sandbox RPG, it also has one of the top 3 stories in video game history.  Hurr

There's no reason to actually expect SW:ToR to be a sandbox game. Bioware might make sandbox games, but there has never been any indication at all that SW:ToR would be a sandbox game.

Bioware has never made a sandbox style game, haha.  Personally I'm sick of rollercoasters, but after this weekends beta I won't be purchasing SWTOR anyways.

Yes and skyrim is made by Bethesda not Bioware. Bioware isn't known for making sandbox RPGs they are known for making storyline centric RPGs. Hurr... you're argument makes no sense.

Nice job.  You just compared a single player rpg to an mmorpg.  If Bethesda made an mmorpg and made it about the story, guess what?  It would no longer be a sandbox.  So your point is invalid.

This has nothing to do with creator.  Simply the fact that that you believe you can't have a storyline in a sandbox.  Story line =/= scripted quest line like Bioware games.

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias.

Because they've never played a Bioware game before, or they just like to complain.

Or it could be that they want more features for their money. You know, the logical conclusion as to why people ask for more.
I don't recall anyone asking for this to be a pure sandbox. I do remember people asking for sandbox features.
For some reason, people can't wrap their head around the fact that sandbox features can coexist in a themepark game.

But the voice in this thread is that we'd rather it not.

You mean your voice right?

What would you like to see added to the game in the future besides raids in which only 10% of the population can enjoy?

No he is right. The voice is that we rather not have the sandbox most people are wanting. Lets face it, people crying sandbox tend to want a game where they can amass power and pretty much take everything over. They don't want a fair experience, they like a sandbox like eve were the few have strength over them any due to the length of time they spent, making the few have very little chance to actually 'compete' with them.

That is huge load of BS. Based upon assumption. How you equate people wanting sandbox features (and I mean features here, not the whole game for your clarity) to being a meglomaniac? I think maybe you are referring to a specific game, not sure which one. But you are inncorrect assuming everyone who likes sandbox features is even comparable to what you accuse them of.

Some people want more features, while people like yourself are ok with the status quo. That is good for you, but some of us find the same old same old, quite boring.

Sandbox content is created by the players.  It's open-ended and the players are given the tools to create their own content.  Quests + storyline, all of which Skyrim has, are themepark characteristics.  It's not that difficult to understand.

If you wanted Bethesda to make a game that was more open-ended like Skyrim, but still contained a questline and a central story, then it would no longer be a true sandbox due to the developer created content.  It would be more of a hybrid.  I'd be perfectly fine with that myself, as that would be a cool game, but I'd never want a complete sandbox title, because the majority of MMO players are....to put it bluntly, idiots, and I wouldn't want them responsible for my content.  I'd rather leave that in the hands of an expert.

Thnx for your concern though.

The customer always has a choice. It's called buy it or don't buy it.

For most people, character development and personal story ends upon clicking "Log in" if not "Start Game"

Why would you have gone into the beta expecting anything other than a theme park? Seriously. There is nothing at all that would indicate SW:ToR is going to be anything other than a theme park.

If you decided that they were making a sandbox without actually looking at the game, and then were disappointed, you really only have yourself to blame. This goes for all the people who said and did the exact same thing with Rift. Ditto for the people who are going to do the same thing with Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World.

The problem is that many of us have played Bioware games and aren't amazed by their stories...some good games, but nothing amazing about the narrative. What they do is give you the choice of letting your character be a saint or a complete d!ck. Having that choice in a somewhat satisfying story is not amazing. However, I'm in complete agreement that I would never look to Bioware to do anything outside of what they've been doing. It's like Blockbuster video rental stores--biggest chain of stores of that kind...why would they change the way they do business just because this internet thing exists?...oh wait.
