OK starting with cons because I'm so goshdarn critical: CONS -Lots of loading screens...thanks all you console kiddies! -Enemies are a bit sparse, especially in dungeons -The interface is original but just flat out wacky. Could be and should be better. -Did I mention the UI is goofy? -Not a whole lot of strategy in the combat -These games have always screamed for a multiplayer component and it's never there -Alot of the NPC movements and interactions are stilted, could have used more polish -Enivronments are realistically rendered but could use a little more pizzaz -Waiting till daybreak to sell off loot PROS -This is the class/tradeskill system we've all been waiting for -Above system makes for an awesome variety of synergies with your character and gameplay -Combat fatalities are sweet -Random dragon killing -Bows are implemented well--it's always nice to see an arrow sticking out of the target's eye socket -Open world encounters are randomly generated. Hope you saved beforehand! -Moving between towns and dungeons is painless with the quick travel option -Overall the NPCs do a good job setting the atmosphere...whether its a performing bard or a fistfight between patrons -Has a higher coolness factor than previous ES games

I could probably say Skyrim is the best RPG ever made. As one reviewer said... "Bethesda put a country in a fricken box". Just going through a Dwemer dungeon brought back Morrowind memories. Beating this game is going to be hard to do. |

MMO? Although I don't see this in Skyrim, I think modders will find a way with this. Type in "Oblivion multiplayer mod" on Google and you'll find a variety of mods that have tried to this. An example would be this: http://csusap.csu.edu.au/~mloxto01/
On the other hand, here's my take on TES: MMO (i wrote this on another forum):
As much as I love the TES Series (I have been a fan since The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind), I don't want it to become an MMO. The setting of The Elder Scrolls universe feeds on the general notion of you being put in a country or continent on your own, without much help from anyone, forced to face the harshness of the world and to live up to the fate that was given to you (IIRC this was the general notion why TES I was called Arena, since you are like a gladiator forced to fight in an Arena without much choice).
In contrast, however, MMOs should take points from what Skyrim did. To quote Tom Francis, from PCGAMER:
The games we normally call open worlds – the locked off cities and level-restricted grinding grounds – don’t compare to this. While everyone else is faffing around with how to control and restrict the player, Bethesda just put a F**King country in a box. It’s the best open world game I’ve ever played, the most liberating RPG I’ve ever played, and one of my favourite places in this or any other world.
My Blog About Hellgate Global, an ARPG/FPS hybrid MMO: Hellgate Global Official Fan Blog Currently Playing: Hellgate Global, LoL, Skyrim, Morrowind |

I'm seriously impressed with this game. I never really got into Oblivion or any other TES game before, but this one is amazing. It's the first game in a long time where I got it out of the box, and then spent the whole day playing it (like 10-12 hours). I also think about it all the time while working, not wanting to wait to get home to play it! lol I just wish there was a damn respec option so I could change up my perks to try another build. But either way, I'm not regretting my choices of Two-Handed Sword, Smithing and Heavy Armor as my main focuses. I can't wait to play more, dammit, but time for sleep.. |

I've been stuck in MMO hell for so long I forgot what it was like playing a real rpg. This game brought back that feeling of wonder that I had way back in the late 90's when I first started playing rpg games. This game is just freaking amazing and shows me how far mmo games have strayed from the rpg part. The Brave Do Not Fear The Grave |

Any way to skip the awful intro and get right to the character making? |

21 hours in now. You would think it wouldn't take that long to go from point A to point B on the map, but so many things can happen on the way there, lol.
Finally bought my house and got it all furnished. Got a good headstart on my book collection and levelling up speech so I can make more money.
This game is is unfricken believably good. So many times I was like...OMG that's awesome! |

Originally posted by Sovrath Same here, that's one of my pet peeves. Some games it feels like they make you fight for every inch of land. But sometimes I just want to explore and take in the enviroment.
I have been killing a lot of things though. I hope they respawn after a certain period of time. Otherwise the world will end up pretty empty feeling in a month or so. |

After playing Dark Souls for 200+ hours Im finding Skyrim to be more of a relaxing experience. In darksouls you fight a number of mobs every ten feet. The areas are much smaller but are so densly populated that its more about learning how to deal with the creatures over and over to master an area. Dark Souls is a great game that offers an extremely challenging experience but Skyrim feels like a living breathing world. |

Saw a door I hadn't been in yet in Whiterun last night, saw that it was a catacomb, thought "Ooh that's intriguing", and decided to make my way in there to see what was going on. Moments later I'm running out with 2 skeletons in pursuit lol. The guards dealt with them.. Sorry guys! I probably could have dealt with them myself, but to be honest, I hadn't been expecting them that close to the entrance - almost literally right inside, each hidden around a corner - and was rather taken off-guard lol. ===Possible Spoiler follows=== Also made my way up the 7000 stairs (nice real life reference to the 7000 stairs of Tai Shan in China, though I'm not sure they have ice wolves and trolls attacking you along the way) and met up with the Greybeards. That was awesome. I think I spent 10 minutes, at least, just waiting for my Shout to cool down so I could zip around that little courtyard area lol. What fun! Then I saw an archway that seemed really windy, thought, "oh what's over there?" and proceeded to find out. Moments later I was being killed by arctic wind. That was not pleasant. I guess through there is where the 5th lives. Oh, and among others, I took this screenshot, which is now my Windows wallpaper. Gorgeous. |

Is anyone aware from the perks system if it is possible to create some class similar to the old Barbarian class? Any perks similar to fury,or bersrker style alike ,anything that maybe increase strenght or life pool or endurance bufs or anything, maybe dmg reduction or anything? Barbarian used to be my favourite class to pick in the old ES. |

Originally posted by tazarconan7 You can make pretty much everything you want. Each skill tree has a wide variety of perks to pick and within skill trees you can specialize too. Example of a typical barbarian skill tree; Two handed So far, character development is more interesting with much more hard choices to make than any other TES game I've played. Another cool thing about perks is that the higher your level is, the more varied the gameplay becomes with new abilities that really make a difference. I am playing a ranged, sneaky wood-elf thief so that means a lot of points in Archery, Sneak, Lockpick and Pick Pocket trees but there's good stuff in smithing, enchanting, speach, light armor and alchemy trees for me too, to give you an example of the depth to character creation. Specialization in all directions is very possible.

Best game ever made. 40 hours in. I cant stop playing. I cant sleep enough cause I miss it to much. I have not had this fun with a game since WoW in 2005-2006. Best game of the decade. Yes.

cant really get over just how much I am enjoying Skyrim. It really is the RPG I hoped it would be. I am a heavey armour wearing, Two-hand sword slinging, Lock picking Wood Elf with a attitude of a hero, lol :) I am trying to keep in mind the main story line but its just so hard. So many things are interesting to go look at while on my travels, I end up on so many other adventures, its great. |
