"Don''t touch that squirrel''s nuts!" - Willy Wonka |
Ok, someone has probably brought this up before, but why not have some of hte different servers of a game be segregated by ages backet? I know, it would be impossible to really enforce, but before thinkin of how, I am asking if it would be desirable.
Here is a thought....we of all ages play on the same server together. People from 13 (and probably younger) all the way up to us old fart gamers in their 30's and 40' (and probably older there too). No one even thinks twice about it. But now, imagine that, instead of a server...we are all hanging out at a Bar together...now that would just be completely akward!
Who the hell hangs out with a bunch of small kids....and same for the kids. If my kids came home and told me they just spend a couple of hours hanging out with some 30-something dudes, I'd be pissed!
This thread got me thinking about it:

Wouldn't most players actually have more fun playing with people they can relate to, personally? I mean, most High school kids would probably wanna play with other kids. I can't help but wonder if this kludging together everyone, regardless of age and life experience, onto the same server represents part of the anti-social problems in MMORG's today.
Discuss!

Hmm interesting. Here is my proposed structure and naming paradigm for your idea... Age Server Name 14-21 "U r ghey" 22-29 "Ph4t L00tz" 30+ "Get off my lawn!" Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

Yeah, when you're a kid it's easy to find other kids though. All you need to do is just go play a game that most kids are playing at school or talking about or whatever is new in town. The older I get, the more I don't want to meet new people. I wonder if it's the same for others. It's like the more I want to just hang out with the people I already met when I was younger or only talk to people my age. I heard people call this the "core group" these days (in MMORPG world). More games are being designed to accommodate the core group better or something but nothing near being able to choose an age range or anything like that. Still, I like the idea. Not that meeting people outside of our age range is a bad thing. |

I'd be all for age restricted servers in some games. Would have to be a game with a robust population, such as WoW, but if they introduced a 30something+ server, I'd possibly resub. Just makes sense to want to be around people of similiar interest and investment in the game. Warhammer fanatic since '85. |

They might possibly relate better to age peers (I'd call that assumption speculative); the problem lies in verification. Even porn sites can't really reliably screen out the kids--too many ways around. It'd be a hell of a lot of work for questionable result. And it's discriminatory, of course.

There are a few issues with that proposal that makes it both impossible as well as a bad idea. 1. When I was <18 I never put my real birthdate. I always would put that I was born in 1985 simply because half the time I would face some odd restriction on age, or just because it was easier. 2. Not all kids act like kids and not all adults act like adults. So the adult server would still end up with some of the most annoying people you can think of, and the kid server would end up with a few alienated people. 3. Not all people like to play with their age bracket. When I was in high school I prefered to play with people that seemed to be 30+ rather than people my own age. Typically people who were older left groups less often because they didnt have a parent telling them to get off or do homework or whatever. They were also more likely to be a repeat group for me for whatever reason. Also, many teens in games like WoW (where most of my expirences in End Game are from) seem to be elititest or /b/tards. I also found a lot of people younger than me that I didnt mind playing with because they acted mature. It wasnt until they told me that they were 14 or 15 that I even thought they were any younger than 18. |

What we really need is to divide servers into 3 types: The internet dickwad server The perv server The rational human being server
The problem is the dickwads and the pervs will still want to roll on the rational human being server. |
