MMORPGs are no longer about the mass multi-user anymore *sadly* |
Ah... One gotta love MMO publishers like SOE... Yeah, I know converting a MMO from subscription based to F2P won't go easy, but SOE is showing a lot of incompetence with the conversion of DC Universe online. Demigoth's RPG adventures ~ My blog ASUS M4N72-E |

reading about problems like this, I'm glad I don't play P2P games (that got converted into f2p) :/ I would ask a refund or go into holy flame war against SOE :P |

Sony is now a near-legend due to it's ineptness recently, and their decline started back in the days of EQ1. Give them a good game and they WILL screw it up. Honestly, they just can't seem to plan ahead in any way as seen by the fiasco of making DCUO F2P. EVERYONE knows that any MMO that goes F2P will be deluged with new players for the first few weeks, and these fresh-faced potential customers need to be dazzled. Sony should have had ample server room ready and waiting, because they've HAD experience at making a game F2P as it is, and can easily see what happened to other companies who have done the same. Hell, all PLAYERS knew the surge of players would be astronomical, so why the hell couldn't Sony figure that out, too? New and existing players should ALL be able to log in without waiting in queues up to 8,000 players long, but if they DID suffer a tremendous load at peak times I see no reason why Subscribers shouldn't get priority. You'd think Sony would think the same, but no - Subscriber or not, it's "Wait In The Queue Time!" |

Originally posted by thedarkess I'm choosing option 1 (holy flame war), that's why copied/pasted my blog entry here :D Refund has been asked through SOE's CS already, but as I wrote in the topic, that'll take a while I'm afraid. Also worth to note, the 1 month subscription is not yet charged on my creditcard either, and I made that payment on Saturday, and even during the weekends, these things go electronically and should be charged within the hour (a day maximum). I was one of the many that jumped in when it went F2P, needless to say I havent been able to play still. First tried on the PS3 and never could get past character creation. Then tried on the PC and got one blue screen and then it completely hanged...... |

Originally posted by Joshua69 My apologies. It wasn't my intention. There's some good f2p conversions like Lotro... on topic: why soe doesn't turn off the servers and properly fix this. It's better to see a game offline for a month and after that working, than seeing it for several months online but unplayable. |

as much as I hate sony, give them some credit, I read they had 120,000 new accounts made. They only have two servers - PvP and PvE. and all of a sudden, they are crazy mass flooded. Not that I condone them not fixing the problem right away, but that is a lot of people. imo, they should have just took the game offline, announced it was going to be down for two days. and setup another server, 1 PvP and 2 PvE. |

yeah this whole thing is just another failure in the hate of SOE, just another reason i really try not to give this crap company money. my problem is with the queue, how can you just have 2 servers (for the ps3) up and running? I know they merged servers but that was before the f2p conversion.
games usually get an influx of players when they go f2p I know this and im one person how does SOE a big ass company not able to figure this out. how you can only have 2 servers available at the f2p launch is beyond me, and why they haven't added anymore servers when seeing the queues is beyond me. |

My guess is the transaction is not ever going to go through.
In the original post they mentioned having station access and that was supposed to give them "legendary" (sorry if I mis remember I'm not active in anything with SOE atm).
Then they had an account glitch that showed them as "free" so they paid a subscription. Somewhere in SOE's system it probably does realize that a Station Access subscriber can't be charged a seperate monthly fee for the game... so regardless of what you account status shows.. I am willing to bet there is some conflict going on in the system.
Maybe the system (not the humans at soe) is at least smart enough to know it shouldn't be charging a sub fee. So if after a few days the charge doesn't go through and the bank only saw it as a "hold" that will *poof* vanish... plus they had a ticket in about their account status.
Most likely it is the conversion that is the problem. Their other games which started as F2P (they have at least two) include a membership status with station access.
Not that any of this helps.. but it will get fixed eventually (maybe 2015 or so but that's another story I guess). |

Originally posted by thedarkess WTH are you talking about? I played it yesterday and today. Not only that is was one of my best times playing it because I always only waiting milliseconds in queues for mission runs. Also DCUO got more immedaite players in the conversion compared to other games. Hell even my 10 year old neice tried getting on DCUO once it went F2P and I didn't even know she knew anything about the 'dc universe' besides the individual characters. Unfortunately her laptop didn't have any kind of decent video card. Really gonna try and tell me DnD and LOTRO are more of a popular household name than Batman or Superman in the past couple of years? (which are the only relevent years for this). Most of the problems I see here are due to a PEBKAC error.

Only incompetence I see is that you are not capable to wait 3 days for a reply... Could they improve something at their end? Most likely. |

Originally posted by Reizla the F2P restrictions are no big deal in this game, why be legendary when u can be premium and avoid all the money problems u got with SOE? since i had bought the game before the hacks happened, now my account automatically went premium... i dont think ill ever become legendary. this f2p is so much better than any other freemium....i just bought the green lantern pack and an cash boost. dont need anything else probably untill another nice pack comes out for sale this cash shop is not bad at all in my opinion, so check the F2P out if SOE keeps giving you a hard time with ur subscription
note: remember taht hackers still got SONY in sight.... keep ur wallet away from sony, for a while |

Originally posted by Gdemami Oh, by all means, elabortate on this one considering the whole issue was with Sony and couldn't be fixed by someone else. Sony IS being incompetant. Even when you do manage to get i nthe game, it is riddled with bugs that should have been fixed the first day of launch. Animations from skills being stuck, unable to move in 3 dimensions, enemies walking through walls. They are showing a significant lack of give a damn, and it looks more and more like they are just squeezing what they can out before the plug is pulled. |
