I have been playing for about 24 hrs of game play and have had no issues logging in. I think I had trouble one time connecting to servers and just closed origin and re-opened it but I have had to do that with steam ocassionaly as well. I guess I've been lucky |

Play on PC. I've not had any of these problems just cuz. I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee. |

MEGALAWLS!!!!!
And on the subject of the article, this is exactly why I find myself buying less and less games every year. I refuse to saddle myself with all the extraneous bullsh*t the digital pimps in the marketing department keep pushing on us.

I got the game on DVD the day before release in the UK and had issues registering it... guess i cant blame them too much as the game was not suppose to be out until Friday.
Anyway come Friday everything worked :) have not really put the game down sicne and dont think i will for a long time.. Sure there are a few annoying bugs with launching the game, squad stuff outside of the game is just a mess, i do hope they fix that asap. Other than that im having a blast and jsut as much fun as i have had with any of the other BF games :)

The more you hype an upcoming game in your mind, the more it will fail to meet your expectations. |

It's a shame when good games get weighed down by corporate bloatware. Even though I wouldn't mind playing the game, the fact that it isn't available through steam is reason enough for me to pass. |

Really enjoy reading Sharptongue's pieces. Imho, easily the best writer on the site. "Ripping through the impossibly strong cellophane that they use on physical copy DVD's, I held the glowing disks towards the skies and thanked the Gods themselves for the bounty of teabaggings I was about to receive." Honestly, what's not to like about that? Great article as usual Coyote, thanks for taking the time to whip it up.

I was hanging on good, then I got to the Gravatar thing and I wanted to fucking climb into my bathtub with my toaster. Ya, ya, I did the gravatar thing, but why the hell was that really necessary? I swear EA and Activision are having a contest to see who can become the Lucifer to online gamers. Anyways if you are looking for some people to play with PM me here and I'll give my info. |

Great article. Recently I purchased GTA4 off of Steam because it was on sale. Still haven't been able to play it. You have to go through a few log ins and apparently I have an account with one of them but forgot my password. I try to use the same one, but then some logins have special needs. I try to reset my password, but it won't accept the new password either. It's either broken or I don't know what. I emailed the company, no reply week later. Money wasted I guess.
I miss the days when you could just play a game without all the bullshit.

Originally posted by Terranah Seconded, I hate using steam for games I had no intention of buying through them in the first place. Buying a game through a digital provider is one thing, picking it up at best buy or gamestop and still having to use some third party software to play that game is something else. Just another case of the few ruining things for the many, in this case it's cheap lowlifes who can't even support the people providing them with their entertainment. Which is why I personally don't blame the publsihers who have taken to this approach. I blame the scum who self-righteously proclaim a right to steal whatever they feel like playing. When I first saw Battlelog I screamed in anguish thinking WTF is this tripe BUT you know what ?
I now love it i cannot imagine any FPS in the future not having the equivelant of it a single place for all my mates, stats, what threads my mates are trolling (oops mean posting on) its a absolutely awesome feature.
As for the game well 35hrs in 5 days played says it all, no game since MOHAA not even BF2 has sucked me in as much to the point I am sat here physically knackered as I think I've only had 20 hrs sleep in 5 days between work, kids and my new found BF3 obsesion.
Its not without its flaws though such as the maps being a bit congested or not large enough hopefully Karkand will bring some of the grandeur of BF2 battles back and a bit less run and gun.
Just need COD to release and the ****ing children currently on BF3 to go away then the game would be near perfect. |

I've read quite a few articles in ym time here and this rates as one of the tops for giggles for sure. No plans to play the game but I'm glad I stopped and read the article anyways =) |

Gravatar is mighty handy. Yeah, you had to sign up and stuff, but only once. And now you can simply provide your gravatar account name (email) and have your avatar in arbitrary other sites that support it, without any extra work or having to upload your avatar to each site separately. Granted, for me it was no problem with BF3 since I've already been using gravatar. Also I wasn't quite as anxious to play the game as Coyote. ;) I've only installed the game yesterday. Still, good article. |

Great article and seriously everyone still buying this game and installing this spyware (yes it is spyware) should read some of the rules. You can give back the game and its your right to get your money back. If I'm paying for a game I want to install it, patch the MP part and be ready to go not interested in signing up for stupid spysites such as gravatar or other crap. Also I think its stupid beyond god having to sign up at an external site instead of having the item included in your box. In germany consumer-protectors are going wild so EA will soon have to endspy their crap. btw. why isn't this on FPS guru this site is about MMORPGS? |

Last year I bought a new PC specifically for gaming. Since my old PC was still usable but short on disk space, I uninstalled all of my games from it and reinstalled them on the new machine. One of the games I did this with Civ IV and its expansions. Once they were installed, Civ IV automatically updated itself with the latest patch - and then started harassing me to download a variety of gaming software I'd never heard of and would probably never use. What was most surprising is that Civ IV didn't do this back when it was new (2005, I think). So all of the "Download this!" and "Sign up for that!" crap I was forced to deal with must be triggered by patching a fresh install, not by anything on the game disks themselves. The moral of the story? Even your old games, should you have need to reinstall and update them, may now provide you with a new and annoying set of hoops to jump through. Yay! |
