Russ Brown works there, too, and he confirmed it (by the end of August 2011) for 2012. |

New areas are definitely needed first; the game has a very small feel to it since launch. Areas can be added easily in the sense you don't need but a "token" amount of lore to give backstory ("this area was recently discovered and no one can tell what the future of blah blah blah...") for people to run around in.
So it's better to hold one race which MAY be almost done, and then work on the other and release them both as expansion with two new zones. It gives them the option to charge for the expansion as well because people would probably pay money for two new races and two new zones, but no one would pay for one neutral race unless there is already a huge selection of races to choose from existing like in WoW. |

Provide link please? /curious Considering my link is from October 2011 (last month), I'd think that is pretty good evidence to the contrary. |

This is google translate on that article, so this gives a general idea of the direction of the game. """ At this point we really thought that it would be over, but Russia had more in stock! He told us that there will be first solid details for the first addon of RIFT beginning of the year, but he had already once hinted that you've got a whole new world and you consider the time, if you lift the level cap. But this is not yet set in stone. Furthermore, we will see next year, new hairstyles, which are then published simultaneously with the barber shop. Housing is also working diligently on what's for next year's list! """"" |

You have answered the post with the link ;) So, it is the VP of development (Russ Brown) vs. Cindy ... from the community-team. Sooooo ... |

So, it's Russel Brown, the VP of Development vs. Cindy ... someone from the Community-Team.
You can make the decision ... I've made mine :D |

This will be interesting to see as a pretty loose comment, since you don't have a direct quote from the employee. We know how accurate reporters can be, especially given language translations. :)

I could.. if you provided a link to HIM actually saying it. Still haven't seen him admitting that. Not trying to be argumentative, but it's not a direct quote. |

The expansion is Rifts big chance.
So far the devs have done everything for current customers and little for those that have left. The two biggest complaints from the people that left are that Rift is a small, linear experience and that it lacks a certain flair, or soul.
They could drop a whole new continent on us, like kunark, with 2 (or 4) new warring races and have them better developed than what was at start. Then you can flesh out the original races by how they react to the new races. This is just an example, but there are multiple ways you could dothings to give the world some depth
The other thing I would like to see, and this is less likely to happen so most are eprfectly happy with the system, is some tweaks to the ascended soul system. I would like unique abilities to people that go deep into two different trees. For instance...Ranger/Marksmen would get some type of arrow atack. Ranger/Bard can get a group pet enchance buff.
If they keep the updates status quo I think the game wont have any growth. it will still be around a long time like eq2, but it wont develop into a major factor in the long run. If they flesh the game out in an expansion a lot of people, like me, will likely give it a second look. |

This makes the most sense to me with a twist... they need to finish fleshing out the existing content BEFORE the new expansion. Things like the PA system need major work; you can't even see what the next tiers are yet and what they do because apparently they haven't even been invented yet. They still have more balancing (which I think is more important because you have PvP people still upset over that) and they have to do a better itemization job and more debugging.
Trion is doing the right thing but not putting new races in right now.. better to hold that stuff until after TOR and maybe GW2 launches as a counter, which means more likely Summer 2012 (for GW2). |

These people will never be happy. Even if game is in perfect balance, a skilled player will come along and kick their ass and they will whine about them being overpowered |

I am not pushing RvR in a two faction game like Rift, but a Wintergrasp type thing would work for me even if it was instanced. |

Yeah, I did say the stuff I suggested was for an expansion. Ine year is generally the standard amount of time for an expansion, Rift could udnerstandably take a little longer since theyve had to add a lot of endgame content already and several new things on top of that.
But they cant wait more than 18 months either. By then we will already be hearing about SWToR's expansion, and probably Titan information and EQNext information will be starting to leak. In other words, Rift wont be so new anymore and people less likely to go back when there is other new things on the horizon. |

They won't wait 18 months (at least from the date it is now), but waiting 18 months from launch isn't out of the realm for an expansion and won't hurt Rift at all. That would place it right about the time I said it would/should happen: Summer 2012 approximately. That gives Rift a new expansion after TOR has been out for half a year and possibly after just missing GW2 launch. TOR won't be talking expansion six months out I don't think because they have an awful lot of replayable content unlike Rift with it's "one toon" setup.

Well obvious timeline for Rift is as follows: 1. Some type of fire based raid involving Maelforge..1.6!??!1.7!?!? 2. Some type of earth based raid involving Laethsys in a new zone?!?! 3. Some type of air based raid involving Crucia in Iron Pine Peak where she is trapped 4. Then you got Regulos the last boss
After that expansion could be going to the actual planes to take out the real dragons and not their avatars. I can predict what the raiding will atleast look like, but as to how and where I am clueless. They seem to be really like this 6-8 week content release schedule, so do the math and expansion comes around Summer 2012 |

The lore for rift was written in a couple of bar room sessions, what a shame Trion didn't hire professional (and good for that matter) writing staff to craft a decent lore with good names, as it is there are all these crappy names like Regulos.

id also like to see NPC factions that actually matter where your raid has to work on faction together to do certain raids. |

They simply do not have a IP like ToR or Warcraft. If you think Thrall sounds any better then you are lying. They are hurting on cinematics to explain the lore a bit better.
It is done better then WoW in my view. While leveling WoW I could gives two cents about the lore and never read the quest. Atleast the story quest are in yellow and kind of bring attention that you might want to read this one.
Cataclysm was kind of a bomb also because the Deathwing storyline is kind of mehhhhh when compared to Arthas. Hell WotLK got me playing mmorpg's and I was a console gamer for life. |

18 months form launch would be next september. We dont know what type of cycle ToR will follow, but at that point it will be out for 9 months and yes, expansion talks are quite possible at that point.
