I think TSW devs have turned a lot of people that was interested off with the Cash shop, Do you really want to be playing a pay to win game with subs? I sure dont.
I'm also expecting a possible worst launch of 2012 award coming with this game. |

I have a feeling they'd have more signed up if their first few days of beta sign-up hadn't been such an unholy mess. It'll still probably pick up, but half a million this far out is still very good. |

I don't think its all that bad really. ToR's hype is going to over shadow every other game until it launches. The hype is strong and has been going on for awhile now. TSW may never be a huge game with millions and millions of players and thats ok. You dont need to be huge to be profitable or enjoyable. |

I think Secret World will do well. Beta signatures rarely means anything, remember how many were in beta for AoC or WAR? BUT, with the World of Darkness MMO put on the Backburner by CCP, this is left largely alone as Urban Fantasy MMO goes. watching the videos at you tube, purely my personal opinion, that April is a bit too early for release.
maybe end of 2012 would be better to brush up the game, especially the graphics and animation.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but beta applications have been open way longer, no? I remember that this test of which of the faction suits you the most already had a beta application thingy at the end. That was quite some time ago. Definitely way longer than 2 months |

It's gone on long enough that I'm not really keeping track of it any longer. I'm perfectly happy to participate, but there's a limit to how long you can ask people to join in, and then give them nothing to do. Right now, participation consists of asking for friends on Facebook. Join the League For Gamers. |

You can't believe a word Funcom says, according to this article the closed beta has been running for several months and the open beta starts before Xmas. It's just different information all the time, needless to say I am on to customer support to demand my Closed Beta access. Who will probably state no beta is running.
*My bad, it doesn't say the open beta will be running before Xmas it states it will not be running before Xmas. But the Closed Beta has been running for several months. |

It's a long beta process, which gives me hope they're going to end the Funcom 'buggiest release ever' double curse they've incurred. I already know I'm going to preorder this, while swearing to myself that if it's a miserable excuse for an MMO, I'm done with the genre entirely. Assuming GW2 releases before this does, anyway. At least one of them has to be worth a damn, right? If not, I'm moving on to FPS games. Be warned, all my future teamates, you poor things, and pray I choose a game that doesn't feature team kill (it's not that I have bad aim so much as really bad timing). Anyway, if the open beta is fairly long, they should catch and fix whatever closed beta doesn't, and no one has a right to complain at that point, because open beta is still beta. Yes, even if you 'paid for it' with a preorder or similar. Actually, that would probably be a smart move on their part. A month or more of beta access with preorder would encourage preorders (and who doesn't love those?) while ensuring the game gets thoroughly tested and polished before its official release. I hope that's what they end up doing, and of course that has nothing at all to do with the fact that waiting until late April to play is agonizing. Or extremely annoying, anyway.

I wouldn't count on it Mad, AoC's beta was going for longer than i was in it and i was in that for just under a year. Hopefully the devs listen to the testers more this time around as during the AoC one they tended to answer the feedback with statements which amounted to "Thanks for your feedback but i'm not changing it because my vision is flawless". Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

I don't believe the game is in any sort of beta at the moment closed or otherwise. I have asked for some evidence not only from Funcom, but from this site, that a beta exists and an NDA agreement is in place. Lets just say nobody is providing me with any answers. All in all I think there is an illusion of a beta running, I think most other game firms would just term it as development. |

I have heard of people being invited to the beta, and posted a link, but I got an NDA warning and the post was edited to remove the link. I don't know if Funcom is enforcing the NDA stuff, but this site certainly is. Join the League For Gamers. |

I didn't know AoC's beta ran that long, though. Still, I think TSW is going to release in good shape. I will happily return to this part of the forum to endure all forms of mockery and giggling if I'm wrong, because no one will be more annoyed than me in that case.
But really? Three bad launches out of three? They've got to know better than to do that. I have faith in the ability of human beings to learn from their mistakes, damn it!
Oh wait, no I don't...but I'm still going to risk it. If only because if it does bomb, I won't be buying any more MMOs, ever. (I feel that last part should really come with some sort of emphatic musical flourish.) |
