Very well said amigo. I don't blame Blizz for changing the game to make it more kid and Asian friendly. If that's where you see the growth, then you move the business accordingly.

Face it folks - WoW is a game. Increasingly a game for kids. I could play this game with my 5 year old grandson. To take it any more seriously is just silly.

I didn't realize it at the time but in retrospect the deathknell for me with this game was when I made the choice to change my main Priest from Undead to Goblin for a guild achievement. Watching a little green goblin run around was, well just shameful.

If you like WoW by all means keep playing but if you can't accept these changes as what they are - moving the game towards a younger Asian audience, you probably need to take a break and step back from the keyboard and go get some air.

I strongly disagree, and I honestly hate panda's and don't plan on rolling one.

New updated graphics are clearly for children, chinese themes are clearly childish.  Is that what you are saying?

Oh just panda's as a race are?  As a kid I knew a lot of kids who liked Cows, would have loved Tauren, does that mean that anyone who likes tauren are children?

Lets be serious here, if you think its aimed at children so be it, however because you think it is something does not make it so.  Last I checked an ex pack that focuses heavily on PVP does not cater to children.

But that is just MY opinion too.

edit:  i've also NEVER seen kung fu panda, nor do I intend to.

You are correct WoW is a very adult focused MMO that is not aimed at children at all.

Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 rocked. As evidenced by millions of dollars in profit followed by an entire WoW expansion based on them.

Chinese culture is not childish. It's a "f'ing" video game - increasingly made for children. Feel free to continue to be a hardcore raider if you like. Obviously that conent is not for kids. Goblin and Kung Fu Panda avatars - clearly for kids.

Step away from your keyboards, go outside and experience real life for a while.

Lore wise , there have been plenty of options that would have made more sense then the pantda, like High elves and Ogres for instance.

high elves dont' exsist except the RARE FEW in Dalaran.

Ogre's maybe since there are friendly ones to the horde in Duskwallow.

So high elves ARE in  game, they are just rare, there are other spots too btw, then ofcourse the lore in which they did have their parts.

You are right, the amounth of.. friendly ogres is very limited in game but then again in the lore and wc 1-2 they where part of the horde.

Yes the point is that by and large they are not a community, you can't introduce a playable race that is suposed to be essentially extinct save a few select members, EVERYONE would roll an elf and look some how they are no longer on the brink of extinction!

Besides, the storyline for the elves is kinda played out, we did a lot with them in BC.

There is a reason we are going to Pandaren, we just dont' know it yet.

Edit:  Ogre's were in the OLD horde, which was PART of the burning legion.  New Horde has NO connections or ties with old horde.

You are right the High elves are close to extinction, but then again the excuse of finding a colony in a unknown part of the world makes more sense then Panda's , both lore wise as well as game pressense wise.

Orges, yes you are right, then again their previous affiliation with the horde and the ongoing shift in powers would make them a logic option as playeble race, infact... them joining the horde makes more sense then blood elves, but lets not beat on that horse again, he had enough. We have had a good amounth of friendly ogres even ones we where able to to gain reputation with. So one of the many tribes desiding to rejoin their previous faction does make sense.

Im not too worried about people mass creating high elves, granted the blood elf population wasnt driven as far back as the high elves , but for them the drain was very near as well. A new part of the world gave a excuse to give them a noticeble pressense in the world, the  location of that part of the world on the other hand.. makes me wonder how they where never discovered. A new continent or even a new corner of the excisting world(s) gives the same excuse, infact a new continent gives a better excuse for a noticeble population then a corner of the known world, a part that was even contested.

I do agree the high elves reapperance would be somewhat questionable but then again.. compared to the panda's..

You know what I love? Fact-checking claims on WoW lore ^_^.

You said High Elves don't exist except for Dalaran. However, a simple WoWpedia search found these.

Two examples of High Elf quest hubs outside of Northrend. Your claim is false.

Chinese culture is certainly not a joke. And Laughing-Man you are not worthy of roleplaying a character of such integrity and importance. Kung Fu Panda was also a great movie and not "just for kids."

You don't know the meaning of the term you are using, clearly.

Warcraft "jumped" the shark when Warcraft 3 was released.

If you REALLY think THIS is jumping the shark you are missinformed and ignorant of the past.

Warcraft lore has been crap since forever.  It's a hodgepodge of nonsense.

But as far as WoW -the -game- is concerned, I would definitely say its accurate to say MoP is a perfect example of "jumping the shark".  It's straight up ridiculous.

How is it any more ridiculous than adding in the space squid race?

Or how about purple elves being in the game?

Warcraft went from essentially a very normal High Fantasy game with warcraft 2, to a completely strange thing of its own design in warcraft 3.

If you REALLY think this some how jumped the shark and adding in a "hero" class, or having elves go horde side, or ANY of the other things...  then I am simply speech less.

Dude, It's drunken ninja pandas and pokemon.

As someone else commented, wow was designed based on western cultural influences and mythologies.  By mixing it with overtly chinese elements is really watering it down making it a spew worthy concoction.  I won't be buying the expansion and i've been playing wow since the beginning.

What if the rest of the expansion is just plain great? What if the new instances are well thought out and enjoyable? What if the new BG's are more fun? What if this expansion actually melds that Asian theme and western cultural influences perfectly?

You say you have been playing since the begining and yet you see Pandas and run away? The Noahs Ark of talking creatures that inhabit Azeroth never turned you away but now Pandas will? You are really going to give up on Blizzard with out even trying it..after 7 years of loyality?

You have no idea if it is complete trash or not. You have no idea how the zones in the expansion are or how they are themed. Look at WoTLK expansion. Was every zone gloom and doom? Filled with snow and dead things? You and most other people are over reacting to the very small bit of info that they have released.

It's trying to be all things to all people which never works,  it only waters down and dullutes it. I think mixing pop asian elements into it, though appealing to kids and prehaps asians, I personally believe it's a big mistake which only cheapens the integrity of the game.

If you don't think this KFP themed content is aimed at a younger audience you're simply ignoring the business side of things. Which is fine by me. RP whatever you like however you like. Just be prepared to PUG with anonymous children. I never found that worth paying for personally.

I had to take my kids to see Kung Fu Panda...the original(absolutly refused to see the second 1 and got away with it!!) I hated every minute of it. it was gimicky.

But I totally agree dude. This movie....excuse me...I mean content theme is going to bring in about 1 million greifing kids that are going to be ruder than the current crop that play. they are going to hijack gear drops. They are going to do the stupid crap that under age kids do.

And AGAIN I say this is going to appeal to ALLL those Chines gold farmers and Asian people....as if it's not bad enough that Chines make so much of American products....which are TERRIBLE and don't last....we have to put up with their crap in our games now? HEY! Here is an idea....let's all become Communits! and let's start teaching Mandrin to our kids instead of English!! And we can do it through the land of Pandaria or what ever it's called. Still makes me think of Sexual Harrasment Panda from South Park. Maybe they can do a new Cartoon with Sexual Harrasment Panda and This lame world of warcraft expansion....as if Cataclysm wasn't bad enough.

Good job those Chinese have been buying enough US debt to keep you afloat and playing MMO's

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising?

10/24/11 7:17:15 PM#152

I know people who think gnomes are silly.

I know people who think dranei are silly.

I know people who wouldn't play a night elf if you paid them.

I don't know of anyone who refuses to play a game because it contains races they object to.

MMOs have a variety of races to pick from for a reason, not every race appeals to every player.

Why don't you people who hate panda's just pick a different race?

Are you really saying that the simple presence of a panda race will make this game unplayable?

Why don't you just pick a race you do like, as you do in every other mmo and just get over it?

I have never played a high elf in my life. I just don't like them. But I still play games that have them as a playable race.

Are some of you quitting WoW because of this?

Because - you aren't playing a Panda now, and you won't magically turn into a panda when the xpansion is released - so can't you just keep playing the race you like?

Seems like you'd gain a lot of mileage hazing pandas if you kept playing. Remember gnome/dwarf punting?

You know, if you refuse to participate in a community at all because you have a hatred of a race which is also a part of that community, you know what they call you?

A racist.

(fyi - this is a joke, playing with words and double meanings; no one get bent out of shape; I'm not really calling you racist)

I quit because I refuse to pay to repeat dailies and randomly pug with teenagers and pre teens. Diablo 2 is still a blast and still free.

To my knowledge, the Diablo community is no more mature than the one found in Diablo.

Why the Pandarens?

As Chris Metzen said in his interview on DirecTV just after opening ceremony, the pandaren race was originally planned to be added as the Alliance race in The Burning Crusade.

There are a number of reasons why that didn't happen, but none of them are because we thought they wouldn't make for compelling characters with interesting stories and living environments. We've wanted to add the pandaren people into the game for a long time. And, when recording feedback over the years from events like BlizzCon and many other avenues, the number one request (by a large margin) has been for us to add pandaren to the game. A lot of people want it and we feel the timing's just right post-Cataclysm.

We want the next expansion to be less focused on a primary antagonist, and more on the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance after the fall of Deathwing, particularly as a new land with diverse and foreign cultures is discovered.

The original World of Warcraft didn't have a primary antagonist and that wasn't strange to most players. Granted, we've set a precedent in the last few expansions of having the one major bad boy. But now, we want to focus much more on creating a bunch of varied content which lets you choose what you want to do in the game on any given day. We want to focus more on what's fun than what you have to do to excel -- and, by that, I mean we want more progression paths in the game to better cater to the extremely diverse player population.

We wouldn't have gone forward with this idea if we weren't confident about whether or not we're breathing some new life into the game and changing up the formula.

I understand the debate over this isn't going to be settled today -- or over the weekend -- but give it a bit to sink in, check out the remaining panels (including the Q&A panel tomorrow), and be on the lookout for more information about our design intent for Mists of Pandaria.

As a side note, even with some of the inappropriate comments and spam going on today, we do still really appreciate how passionate everyone is about the direction of the game. We share that passion and look forward to continuing to divulge our evolving philosophy on making this the funnest game possible. And we'll make sure there are plenty of opportunities for open conversations between community managers, developers, and players as time advances (it's difficult for me to follow any thread for too long while working BlizzCon). For instance, we'll be doing a CoverItLive developer Q&A next week with Lead Content Designer, Cory "Mumper" Stockton, and Lead Systems Designer, Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street, next week. Stay tuned for more info on that!

In my opinion, the more I hear about this expansion, the better it sounds!

This is just my opinion and should be viewed as just that, an opinion

The panda's were in WC3 already, so this thread title is invalid.

Kungfu panda stole the Pandarians.
