Actions, not words.

They have a LOT of work to do to even begin to repair relations with a large portion of the playerbase, even moreso for those no longer in the playerbase due to finally having enough of ccps ineptitude on the communications front.

Pay-to-Win / F2P will be the death of real gaming, Boycott it !!

When I started playing there was 1.2 accounts per player. Post PLEX it's up to 3 accounts per player. They are as far as I can tell, down 1/2 the actual real player base. Funny when at the Fanfest when you mention "so how many distinct IPs logged versus players online, are we up distinct IP counts from 4 years ago" you get "I don't think we log distinct IPs" as an answer.

There is a reason they bought WW for World of Darkness...

Go ahead join a megacorp and enjoy guarding a 0.0 mining op for 4 hours staring at hulks eating roids.

You need 10 mil skillpoint to get in most non- tax scam corps unless you enjoy shooting asteroids. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU6RLif7vC8&feature=related

If you can stomache 4 hours of that, there is a mega corp looking for you!

It has nothing to do with a learning curve, it's the fact that Eve's powerblocks control so much territory that new players will either be a slave to a megacorp to get access to 0.0 or outgunned by blobs in low-sec. Enjoy mining Trit in highsec for 20 hours a week to buy a ship to do shitty missions in hi-sec. Oh and incursions? Don't bother. When you show up and there are 40 mega-corp ships that 1 shot you for showing up to help...

Yeah keep stroking the power block's egos, nothing attracts new players like no being able to compete, play, or pretty much do anything but mine and shitty frig missions. I've been in those shitty uber-corps and being told I have to scan down 12 sites today or guard a mining op for 4 hours or gtfo really inspired me to keep playing I tell ya. Finally gave up at 10 mil skill points. Maybe they should focus on making the game FUN again rather then a part-time job working for the power-blocks.

LOL - if I had money for a setup like the one displayed on the website in the first link, I wouldn't even bother with EVE. I'd spend it all on building a home flight simulator cockpit instead. Something like this:

And why would I think of checking this game out as a new player?

That which does not kill us, makes us stronger!!!

I just CAN'T let this go.

Why would any one play a game in which the Devs gave complete access to the Devs private test Servers (not the public test server)  to a select few?

Caught a dev cheating and really did nothing to fix it.

Allowed that select group to cheat in game with out consequences?

Interfer in game politics?

They fixed or rigged a special event for that select group to win and when they didn't they handed the prize to them any way and gave NOTHING to the legit group who did win with the promise to give them something later and never did.

And in CCP's ARROGANCE they say Tough! this is OUR Sandbox...we will do as we see fit!!!

CCP promised total ship customization (painting it. Putting your Corp logo on the side and later they said Alliance tags as well.) Something so trivial to them but a major thing to the player base.

If I EVER met Hellmar I would punch him in the face and not feel one bit guilty about it after all the crap that I paid for.

All they have done and are doing is pandering to a very select few.

That player councel is a JOKE they do NOT represent the players. It's just another way for them to try and improve their image!

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! CRYPITC AND CCP should be bowling partners they can cheat and lie together to WIN!

I will NEVER play either companies games again!

Too few corps control too much in EVE.  I know its supposed to be an sandbox but as others have said unless you want to become a slave to those that play almost 23/7 and make EVE your second job, you are nothing.

I played EVE from the start when it was fun.  But no longer.

At this point I'm waiting for some action, to follow all of the words. Talk is cheap. Action will determine the future. But one doesn't have to be part of one of the mega corps to enjoy yourself. I have 45 million plus SP, and I'm still part of SWA. I've never been part of any player corp.

I have my own fleets of battleships (L5 or L4 all racials) and mining barges.  I went my own way for almost six years, until Incursions.  So, its possible.  At this point I doubt I'll go back. CCP has changed too much. I regret walking away from all of that time and effort, but I really disagreed with where the game was going, and CCP's attitude. If that changes for the better, I'll have to see.

So, are you saying that "someone doesn't have to be in a big megacorp to have fun.   just run 5+ accounts and create your own fleets and go your own way.  That's what I did.  Its possible."  ??

I've never had more than one account. Everything I've achieved, everything I've gained is through one personal account.  All it takes is patience and research.  More accounts makes some things easier, but one can have quite a bit of fun with just one.

k -- PM me and let's talk buddy.  Would love to see what direction you went for solo fun.   I'm not doubting you as much as acknowledging how rare it is for a solo pilot to have long-term fun in EVE, and that if you have a means of doing so, I'm all ears.

Kudos

You heard of Zhek Kromtor right? This was his new site. His old articles can be read here. You can have fun in EVE as a SWA on the long term.

It's possible to have fun all by yourself. I did it afterall. For a while. That is the problem - for how long? When large parts of the game is out of your reach because it requires being in a corporation of a certain size and expansion content is focused on a corporation or even alliance level, then content runs out pretty fast once you're over the steep learning curve of EVE. Multiple accounts make it easier, but you can only run so many accounts until it becomes an overwhelming job and expensive as all hell, unless you're willing to turn the game into a real job by grinding PLEX.

That's where I start questioning things and wonder why bother with EVE when I can just play some modded to hell version of X3 Terran Conflict where I'm not held hostage by the whim of some developers who may decide to ruin my ability to enjoy the game at any point with very little warning. Yeah, X3 is single player, but it's a damn good substitute (especially if you're a flight sim fanatic like me) at this point and costs absolutely nothing per month. EVE may be the only worthwhile space MMO around, but it has reached the point where the MMO part isn't worth the sacrifices in game play to me.

Well said.  I can understand where you're coming from.

And yes, I do understand how fun can be had in the solo approach, afterall, I have played this game for many years and most of  the enjoyable parts of those years were while I was NOT in a megacorp.      But, as you said, once you get past the learning curve, and achieve personal goals, you're left with running into walls over and over while trying to figure out ways to get to content out of the reach of those that aren't in megacorps.

Is it fun to get a corp all riled up in lowsec/nullsec and have them try to kill you, while getting away with your ship, and a smile?  Sure.  I've done it and had great times.... but can I have fun doing only that day in day out?  Nope.

Is it fun to scan down sites and then clear them/hack them to find a pricey rare item to sell?   Sure...   but can I have fun doing only that day in day out?  Nope.

Is it fun to mine?   Nope.

Is it fun to run the same 5 missions over and over in slow ships?  Nope.

These are all opinions of course, but I think my point has gotten across.

PS:  I also undestand that EVE is supposed to be less about FUN and more about being COMPELLING and INTRIGUING... but it's still a videoGAME right?

You must have missed when all of CCP became delusional with their "Eve is Real" campagin. It's not a game. They admit that now. Any pretense of Eve being a source of entertainment has been dropped. It's now an alternate reality. I'll pass with insaine people. There is one reality and the last thing I want to do with my hour or two of free time is trade one reality for another. I prefer to play... well... GAMES. Back to Dominion and Catan I guess...

Question from the uninformed: What is ship spinning?

Ship spinning was the original default screen you had when you docked at a station you were able to grab the ship with a mouse and spin it. That dissapeared with Captains quarters, and because of that became a symbol if you like of the direction of the game. But also with captains quarters you lost features, burned your graphics card and in the main was seen as a shop window for Nex store.

Eve is now a dead game unless it does soemthing drastic it lost the trust of its player base and is now trying to get that trust back for many it simply wont happen. In truth eve should now take a new direction as the old one is not really viable anymore, even if it manages to reinvent  itself can you still trust ccp not to do something stupid after investing years into a character  again?  i know i cant...

Put in consentual PvP so you dont get ganked the second you leave hi-sec and I will come back to EVE. Until then gank yourselves silly. Not paying for a game where all a new player can do is be some established factions miner butt-monkey,,

No Thanks

Thanks Eta. I was first assuming you can spin your ship in space (i.e. roll) for some non-functional flashy fake impression, that the combat is actually action packed and thrilling - lol.

I was playing Eve since open beta, fom then for 1.5 years and with 2 returns up to last year where I was playing a few weeks and then spent a multiple of that active time on subbing without playing and only switching skill training. I have to say the offline training is a feature with a significant economic effect (for CCP). As long as I was thinking that I will return I felt the pressure of not cancelling my  sub so i wont "lose" training time and "fall behind". Stupid me. This game has no leveling treadmill but a "waiting for skill x to get access to new content treadmill".

I daresay that a portion of those accounts deemed active are not even played but they only keep the training queue filled. So the active playerbase is probably another bit smaller than what the statistics imply.

I don't mind offline training but I would never again play a game with only offline training and no option to advance your skills while actually playing (and which is stronger than OLT).

Another player posting a whole host of blown out of proportion nonsense.

It is always a hard needle to thread to keep existing playerbase happy while instituting changes.  Too fast and you upset everyone, too slow and you get lots of complaints.  Yet better to be too slow than too fast.

Remember, at it's base, Eve is a pvp game.  There are always going to be complaints about unfairness in any pvp game, you just cannot please everyone.

We will just have to wait and see what they intend to do, fixing the capital ship problem is a start, let's hope it is not all.

I'm just about as CareBear as it gets. I never left high sec in almost 6 years. I'm also still a member of SWA (never joined any player corp).  At the point I walked away, I had around 45 million skill points, my own fleet of battleships (level 4-5 in all racials), barges and lord only knows how many other ships.

All of that from mission running and a little mining. Its more than possible to solo well in EVE. One just needs patience and research.  I finally left after Incursions. I did not like the way the game was going, and the attitude CCP had picked up.

As for the ganking, yes it happens (even in high sec), but not NEARLY as much as it once did. The evolution of Concord is a fascinating look at CCP's efforts to protect its business model. ^^  But thats to be expected given the existence of groups like the Goonies.

One of their mottos is; "We don't want to ruin the game, we want to ruin YOUR game".  Groups like that get their jollies from ruining other players play experience. Thats going to happen, when non consentual PvP is part of the game.

Thats why Perpetuum is a better game in that regard. Non flagged players can *not* be attacked on the Alpha islands.  Imagine EVE with mechs on the ground, rather than ships in space.

On the other hand... I have also been hearing about walking on stations for quite some time now.  And while it is understandably a big thing that will take a lot of resources to develop they are wise to not neglect the rest of the game.  For all of the hard work they have put into ground avatars you can hang around your quarters by yourself.  I don't think that anyone is excited at the idea of waiting a long time and getting this system in baby steps.  Especially if the game comes to a halt in the mean time.

honestly the best thhing they can do at this point is divert some of the modelers and coders that were working on ground avatars to World of Darkness so it could see release before 2020

Fun fact: the Winter expansion will have 3 times as much WiS content as Icarna did.

"A very special kind of stupidity"

I too have received the $5 offer. I have read all the promising words. I have thought about returning... and all I feel is meh - why bother?

The thing is, I'm a lone industrialist and if I'm going to return, I intend to remain a lone industrialist because I have little choice. My RL situation is pretty shitty right now and is going to remain so for quite some time. Any time I spend in an MMO has to be enjoyable, low-stress and free of commitments or it's just not worth my time and subscription. That rules out 0.0 or any PvP for that matter. Problem is, it's pretty clear who CCP is in bed with now. It's the 0.0 crowd who dominates the CSM. There's almost nothing of any use to me in the winter expansion and then this little http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=2899 gem of a dev blog show up today about PI which will screw me over. That dev blog made me remember another dev blog from a while ago about 0.0 changes they were considering, including industry changes that would affect me even more than the upcoming change to PI customs offices.

So it's obvious to me that not only am I not the type of player they want to cater to, but they're also quite willing to wreck my style of play in order to please the players they're trying cater to. So why bother going back? Rebirth or not, when EVE isn't sailing in the direction I need to go, then no point getting on board.

You seem to be under the impression that you're the only one with a busy and complicated life who's playing EVE. Any corp which won't let you structure your gaming time around your real life is not one you should associate with. And yet there are corps who do let you do this. You're making huge, sweeping generalisations which are as accurate as huge sweeping generalisations normally are.

If you made the smallest amount of effort to do so, you could easily join a casual-friendly hi-sec corp. And when I say a "small" amount of effort, I mean less effort than you've put into complaining here.
