Greatest threat to society is letting casualties of puberty reproduce.

I have preordered both . Demon Souls was a challenge and I rate it far superior to Morrowind . However Oblivion was one of my all time favorites so I have to do with Skyrim for the world and Dark Souls for the challenge.

From what i saw in gameplay videos Dark souls apears to be something like severance blade of darkness with better grafix but less tactical combat. Timing isnt that important all combat scenes i watched players were either spamming ranged attacks or meleee attacks or spells and carefully observation or timed blocks and counter attacks seem to be of less importance making the gameplay something like diablo in supert duper 3d grafix, spamfest and all.

It maybe a good hack n slash arcade/console style rpg for the fans of such games but when it comes to players that are seeking challenge or value more the tactical part i dont think it can even be compared with oblivion  ..comparing it with skyrim seems equal to blasphemy heh...

In this blog http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2011/oct/02/dark-souls-review-xbox-ps3 the writer indicates that timing is rather important.

Which may or may not be the case but he thinks so.

"At first, the combat feels clunky, but it clicks when you realise it's all about timing your strikes to when enemies are just about to attack, or parrying their attacks and replying while they are still off balance. Each type of undead you face has a distinct way in which it acts, and things start getting really fun when you're beset by several different types at once."

DS cause it will be an even bigger challenge than its predecessor.  Wanted to buy Elder Scrolls for PC but the console port combined with the stupid spyware "steam" will not touch my pc.

Go for both, cause both of them are good games and its better to have them rather than choosing. It will just give you headaches just for choosing either of them, in the end you will just crave from the other one if you only choose the other. Play and enjoy thats the better part.

Maybe his statement is true, maybe not. That remains to be sorted out. But out of personal expirience from last 4-5 years rpg's thatcoming out from the market when i see characters on full plate armour rolling over ..heh.. i dont know smells like arcania gothic 4 ,eco dragonis and some other action rpg's that feel alot consolised in gameplay with whatever means that if u get my point.

If it's anything like Demon's Souls, you can only roll in Plate Armor properly if you raise your endurance really high, to raise equip burden stat. 50% or lower equip burden = fast roll. Otherwise you fall down, and do a lazy flop over, then slowly stand back up.

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off.

I just can't bet against Skyrim.  I feel if there was a decision to be made that would be my choice.  I feel that The Elder Scrolls is more proven at this point and therefore the safe bet.

LOL one thing is for sure, this forum is filled with people who talk up games that never live up to the hype.  and like others have said why even compare? one is console only, the other is both.

At launch skyrim will be the one that sells more.

1 year from now most people who bought skyrim will still be playing it, where as most people who bought dark souls will be on here talking up the next niche game as if its gona kill the current genre leader.

its how it is. :D

I'm getting Skyrim for the ps3, and Dark soul's for the 360, I prefer Skyrim on the ps3 because of the higher graphics quality and Dark Soul's on the 360 so there are more players to help...and invade. On thing I disliked about Oblivion was the combat, but that led to some funny ass moments such as flying across the map and such. Demon Soul's combat has more...depth. One thing as well, was Demon Soul's online notes, invades/assistance as well. I thought that added a bit of zest to it as well.

It is hard to pick a "better" game. Hell, I'd go as far as saying its like trying to pick the better game out of a FPS or a turn-based RPG. The two are just that different.

One game was made to blow the player away with massive amount of quests and side content, bonuses to find, and other tidbits of stuff. The other was made to challenge the players and give them a unique twist of online content. (This is based on their other games, ofcourse.) They are both good in their own ways, and I cannot wait for either of them

Per...So...Na...

Both!  I can't pick one over the other right now.  I recently got interested in Dark Souls and will be picking it up today whereas Skyrim was a 'do want' since its announcement.  I like difficult games... but I like fair difficulty.  Ninja Gaiden on the XBOX personified this for the most part, at least on anything but the highest difficulty.  Unfair difficulty(from the same game and its sequel on the hardest difficulties) is crap like projectiles being spammed at you from off-screen to the point where you spend more time dodging than actually hitting anything because there's just so much of it flying at you and you can't see it coming.  Megaman games are also good examples of fair challenge.  Hopefully the difficulty in Dark Souls is of the 'fair' category.

If I had to pick one it would have to be Skyrim just by anticipation, and I'm a PC gamer at heart now so just the platform itself is a factor.  I don't play many console games anymore but Dark Souls is one I will pick up.  I'll be picking up Forza 4, the new Ace Combat and WWE '12 later this year.  I love the fall, busy time of year.

Now Playing: Mission Against Terror, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Dark Souls, League of Legends, Minecraft, and the piano. =3

Tried dark souls, and its garbage, your better off playing RAGE instead, Skyrim will be awesome when it comes out.

Mess with the best, Die like the rest

Dark Souls... then Elder Scrolls as they're about a month apart.

I'm hoping Dark Souls is as good as Demon Souls!

Finally got a chance to acquire Dark Souls.  I'm still at the early stages with the Taurus Demon, getting my a** raped.  But the game itself is still as dangerous and engrossing as Demon's Souls.  Just like Demon's Souls, my very first toon is a Knight, getting a feel of the game.  Right now I rerolled with the barebones, destitute class with literally rags on herself and a wooden club, nothing more.  I got a better grasp of combat again.

The game is punishing.  Headlong charges without any forethought will get you killed in terrible fashion.  This is one of those few games, esp. on the consoles, that you need to have a good degree of caution.  When you start getting that sense of "I can beat the crap out of everything here" then you need to reign in it some, because you're one step away from a nasty death.

Just in the Taurus Demon's zones, I've died a bajillion times, some catastrophically losing my huge stack of souls / currency because I died again before recovering it.  But I enjoyed the challenge of learning new things, finding little tricks to defeat the enemy more efficiently, more safely.  From what I've seen all forms of combat are viable.  Range, melee, there's enough times where I was wishing, man, I wish I had some offensive magic here instead of having to close in with a spear or sword, shield.  There's times where the heavy armor and weapons of a melee'er is what's keeping you alive, especially after surprises. That shield is what's keeping you from a nasty death due to another poorly thought out plan or just terrible luck.

It's a game that rewards caution and exploration, and properly executed violence at the same time.  There is no quick save or reload from the last, and have another go at the boss with no repurcussions from any failures.  Every time you leave the safety of the bonfires / camp, you better have your sh*t straight.  Every.  Single.  Time.

Dark Souls is also a bit like gambling.  You better know when to cash out if the going's good

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
