Yeah, but a mail box is not exactly game breaking. I think the guy with 18 months gets some gloves and pants that are vanity items. Aion vet rewards were like a hot that could not be remodeled so not sure what the big deal is.

The problem is this is Rift doing it. If Bioware offered the exact same vetern rewards for ToR it would be praised up and down the internet. I am seeing an almost non stop double standard right now and it is sad. They are a quality dev

Actually, this IS getting praised up and down the internet, like this article here.  Veteran rewards are a pretty standard MMO feature now.  Everyone but Blizzard has em, and Blizzard gives everyone a free pet each year to celebrate WoW's anniversery.

I see articles like this making a huge deal about something so standard, and done with an element of greed to it.  SoE doesnt get praise for basically pioneering this concept do they?  Heck if they had allowed people to sub two years in advance just for the 24 month award there would be a 30 page hate post about how greedy they are.

Again, Im reminded EVERY TIME I LOAD UP RIFT that I can give them money to upgrade my account.  Its extremely tacky, its something games with free to play trials do (well maybe not that extreme, there isnt an in game pop up or anything, but still...)

I think vet rewards are a great idea and Trion didnt go overboard with what they give, but you cant deny its tacky to offer them for 24 months in advance when there is NO BENEFIT IN PRICE to subscribe *that* far in advance.

if you subscribe for a year its only $9 a month.... that is $72 saved or 40% and btw NOBODY can have the 24 month rewards for another 5 months, they only give 1 year subs in advance get your info right.

Kind of funny how people dont see this for what it really is:

a cash grab.  Because its not based on how long you have been playing, its based on how long you are paid for.  People have already gone ahead and gotten the 24 month rewards.  24 month rewards, for a game thats been out 1/4 that time.

Also with 6 month subs being up and people on the fence between going month to month now, they are mor einclined to saty with 6 months even though there is a good chance they wont stick around tha long.   I dont doubt Trion started this with good intentions, but how it was rolled out looks pretty damn greedy.

Business' are in business to make money.  Its not just a cash grab it is also a way to reward people for their dedication.

Giving something to players who like their game is a good thing. If you dont like the game thats one thing just say that and move along but please dont criticize a company for rewarding their players for loyalty. Not enough companies do that in todays market  =/

Trion? Hats off to ya ;)

Trion must love people like you.

COH had a much better vet system.  You got rewards based on how many months you subbed for not for how many months you bought in advance.  This seems more like a massive investment for a vendor/pony thing in a game your probably not going to be even playing in 12 months time.

I guess there trying everything because they know they'll soon take a big hit when other MMO release so there milking the cow now for all it's worth.  Please don't try and dress it up as something it isn't.

This looks like a job for....The Riviera Kid!

It seems more like the people complaining are the greedy ones. The fact that you can claim a reward for time purchased in advanced seems pretty generous. If you look at it the other way, why the hell would you want to wait till the 12th month of your one year subscription to claim rewards you paid for a year ago. Seems like a no-brainer to me

I can't beleive you are all up in arms over some freaking vanity items and some new mounts.  Trion is a business, and they are offering rewards to the players who are willing to keep paying to play their game.  Players get rewarded for their time and money spent, Trion makes money, and develops new content and keeps the servers stable.  Everyone wins, including the snotty kids who complain about others buying their vet rewards early.

That's all this is, and shouldn't be looked at past.  Trion rewards players for time and money.  Trion makes money off this.  Trion uses said money to develop new content for the game.  Everyone wins.  And no, I have not paid extra time for vet rewards, I'm a month to month.

No because I renewed my sub for another 6 months because it allowed me to pay 9.95 a month instead of 15 and got rewards for doing what I was going to do anyways. win win    its just a game not my job

I have no issues with paid time being the measure of vetrewards

some players view age as account age (subbed or not) but RIFT views Vet age as paid months

someone mentioned GW annual pets but thats invalid comparison - those are CHARACTER age pets

vet rewards are paid account rewards - nothing more

its not that much different than players gettin cheaper sub prices if they pay more in advance

I have yet to see anyone with 2 year rewards on Shatterbone or Faeblight.  I somehow doubt this is the common scenario, but just an agenda you're pushing.

People generally don't sub for vet rewards.  Hit their forums or tool around the servers.  I've yet to see a conversation where someone said, oh man I'm going to resub a really long time for.... wait for it... vet rewards.  No, people are resubbing to play Chronicles, or to do raids and hard modes.   People resub in a game like that to actually play the game.

Compare this to the vet rewards for EQ2, another game I play, and it's a far better, more generous system.  Vet Rewards in EQ2 work like this.  You get an annual rewards that you can use as your account anniversary passes.  So if you're on a six month or annual subscription you get the reward just as your account expires because Sony are greedy bastards and want you to resub in order to actually use the reward.  I really like that I can use my RIFT rewards during the time I'm playing the game for my current subscription period, not the next one.

These loyalty rewards are by far the coolest in any game I play that has the system.  The only one that comes close is Guild Wars but that's only because the game is B2P and I dont' have to subscribe in order to get my present.

I don't give a damn if some idiot buys 5 years worth of game cards, I still like Trion's system the best.

Curse you AquaScum!

Your logic is flawed. I haven't played RIFT, but I could technically buy the game today pay for the 1 year subscription and be considered a "veteran" player without even having played the game?

As people have already said, it should be rewards for people that have played that long not for people who have paid in advance. A player should be rewarded for playing/paying since launch.

This is just BS marketing that they stole from cell phone companies who give better incentives to new customers and snub their current customers.

And here it is.  by calling SoE greedy because of their veteran reward system you just invalidated anything you may have written.  So EQ2 rewards you for playing as opposed to paying.  Wouldnt that actually be the opposite of greedy?  They are thanking you for time spent in their world, not money spent.

However EQ1 bases at least some of its rewards on time paid as opposed to played.  Oh and SoE basically pioneered the whole system in the first place.

I dont really care which a company chooses.  Paid or played.  Neither is greedy if done in a sensible way.   But dangling carrots you can pay extra to get at *less* benefit?  Thats where I draw the line.

But the extended subs are financially beneficial if one is sure he will play that long. Its obvious you dont like the game so my point of view is lost on you but it is what it is.

Ive said stuff on this thread that suggested I was actively playing the game, which I am, so then its obvious I *do* like the game.   And the extended subs are financially beneficial, although it is impossible to know if you will be playign for a year, I think anyone subbed beyond 6 months is nuts but thats besides the point.

The vet rewards are set up in a way that you can pay for time beyond the subplans and earn more stuff.  If it was just set up to the subplans no one would have an issue.

Funny how people think Trion is being greedy.  The stuff is free based on how long you've paid.  So what if you've paid 6 months in advance and get them early?  You can't get your money back so why not get the incentives earlier?  People who pay month to month will get it eventually also.  Just need to be patient and you'll get it.    I don't see how it's being so greedy for rewarding the people early because they paid in advanced early.  Oh well people can enjoy their WOW cash shop or D3 market fees then. lol greed..  I'll take my free gifts for playing a game I like over having to pay cash on top of a monthly subscription fee for items.

Its kind of sad how many people just don't get it.  People are quick to defend Trion but lash out against other companies, and very few are even addressing the reason why people that look at the big picture are calling Trion out on this.  I think PT Barnum was generous with every minute.

Do they really check if you're playing or not?  I doubt it.  Someone could just be paying the monthly fee and not even play the game.  I've known a couple people that have kept their wow subscription going while not even playing the game.  Waste of money?  Sure, but that just proves that they aren't rewarding you for playing but paying.

I agree - its all paid time in the end

Would it be better if they called it a signing bonus instead of loyalty reward? How about you get nothing for subbing except playtime, would that be better? Are people stupid enough to sub for 12 months just to get a virtual item? Some certainly are, if not,  F2P games would have died years ago. But for those that are going to sub anyway I really dont see what all the angst is about.

I agree if they labled the incentives/rewards as something else thered be less fuss

strike it up to marketing I guess -- the name veteran sounds better

ok so you are saying that if I pay for lets say a 12 month sub with Everquest 2 right now I get the 12 month benefits <--this is hypothetical

Actually also here is the better question. Where have you seen people hassling Sony about this like ever?

So people shouldnt be called out for doing something greedy?  If they had just done it for 12 months (within the current subscription plans) then no one would say anything negative.

It's not greedy imo ..it's incentive to keep playing.Just another little reward/gift  to casually work toward. No urgency. I'm content to gain the free shite as I play. Whose fault is it if someone plops down 2 years worth of subfees to get what is mostly..cosmetic gear? Trion? Greed? The greed imo would be the have alls that can't wait and do plop down the dough and the have nots who can't afford it so they whine about not having everything now. Then again..to each their own.
