Since Dark Souls is Demon's Souls but with more content, a bigger world and more mechanics, we know it will beat Skyrim. What does have TES have going for it? An open world? Dark Souls has a open world and so does Dragon's Dogma and Kingdoms of Amalur which release early next year. Now that TES isn't the only open world RPG, it has nothing to stand upon because the majority agree that TES combat sucks and if you expect the dialogue found in Bioware games like Dragon Age: Origins or Baldur's Gate, then you are sadly kidding yourself.

Yes, Demon's Souls didn't contain great in-depth dialogue with NPC's but there was much about them that you could learn which made them better than any character in a TES game. The only good character in TES was Martin Septim because Sean Bean voiced him. All the other characters (Dwermer character from Morrowind, Bandit from Daggerfall) are all forgettable in their names because they lacked depth.

Since when did I become we? Also, the majority? Where are you getting these statistics? You have your own opinion, but don't include "the majority." Oblivion and Demon Souls have pretty much the same ratings. Also, Skyrim has a HUGE advantage over Dark Souls. PC availability. But again, why do people continue to pair games against each other?

In my opinion, Demon's Souls (and most likely, Dark Souls) is a trial and error hack and slash game.  It's a 3D rendition of Ghosts and Goblins.  It's just a shy second cousin from closet scares that movies and games use, to me.

I'm not saying it's bad, because it's certainly a breath of fresh air (recycled air from a time since passed at the very least) but it lacks a certain quality that holds it back from being a torch bearer of a genre.

Also, yeah, as a few others have said; these two games aren't exactly similar enough to compare realistically when you get down to specifics.  I'd imagine it'll be worth playing them both.

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone.

I'm definently looking forward to Dark Souls.

Im interested in Skyrim, but i'm going to wait a month or so before getting it, should give the community time to mod in things to undo some of the less appealing changes Bethesda is making to the game.

Further more, Dark Souls has the covenant system (basically a guild system) which effects gameplay by either having you side with a certain fraction so you get allies and don't fight certain enemies (because they're on your side) or giving you powerful spells and abilities. I hear convents even effect the ending and what bosses you face.

Skyrim? You can join all guilds and they have no effect on the story whatsoever. Combine this with Bethesda's mediocre storytelling and atrocious combat mechanics and Dark Souls wins.

Darksouls is linear where skryim is open world. when playing darksouls i feel like im playing a console game whereas skyrim makes you feel you are in a living breathing world, skyrim is better bang for your buck.

Both, but I have an amazing time with Dark Souls. I don't know what it is about the game but it just clicks with me. You can watch the 24h livestream IGN has up. It's good times to own a console imo.

Skyrim looks great from the previews. Say what you want about the combat but at least they're going to add a little more complexity with the double wield/double spell mechanic. Also it looks amazing and the dragons will add some unpredictability to the game play.

I just hope the entire world isn't going to be voice acted by the same 5 people again.

has to be Skyrim for me, as its PC available. Dark Souls is a Console game and not on the PC. So no contest really between the 2, if you have a console you will buy DS on it, if you have a PC you will buy Skyrim. If you have both you will more than likely buy both games.

I have my Dark Souls pre ordered. Let me tell you.. As much as I enjoyed Oblivion, I liked Demon's Souls more. I am sure I will prefer Dark Souls over Skyrim, just because of the challenge. I prefer a game I can't play with my eyes closed...

Skyrim on PC will be superior in every way and dont forget all the MODS it will get will make game just awesome.

Btw i realy dont understand why OP compare a console game only to a PC game/console, there also both 2 completely different games one is sandbox other themepark lineair console only game with silly gamepad lol.

Actually, Dark Souls is open ended, much like Skyrim. The difference is, Skyrim is so easy you can walk into just about anywhere and not worry about a thing.

Good and valid point  because you have played Skyrim ...oh wait you haven't because its final build isn't released yet ( all the current demonstrations  at gaming exhibitions is not the final product ). Amazing the so called " informed " comments you get from people who don't know something

There is no decision here  ,Skyrim on PC  wins hand down .Install some Mods to enhance the game and you will have a true immersive RPG experience . But as mentioned its silly to compare a PC version of a game to a console game ,the PC is vastly superior

I hadn't heard of Dark Souls until this thread, I will definitely be checking it out now.

Will be buying Skyrim regardless.

Okay, let me rephrase that. If it's anything like Oblivion, what so ever, it's so easy you can play it without worry, all the time. However, I based my comments on many editor, and critic comments about Dark Souls not being a game to play if you want to relax, but skyrim is.

Edit: To be clear, I'm getting Skyrim, and Dark Souls. I'm sure Skyrim is amazing on PC like Oblivion was, however, I preferred Demon's Souls over Oblivion on pc. I'm not sure how Dark Souls vs Skyrim will turn out, however, I'm sure both will be fun in their own rights.

To the caterpillar it is the end of the world. To the master, it is a butterfly.

other than being rpg's arent they really two different kinds of games?

They arent even competing for revenue let alone market share

To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.

Dark Souls and Skyrim are two very different games. Can't compare them so Skyrim doesn't win anything.

Both are pre-order for me.

So now we're hipstering on about console games too eh?

Both will be good, deal with it.

Stopped reading after this sentence.

Demon Soul's was a great game.  But better than Morrowind & Oblivion?  Oh man...

Anyway, Dark Soul's is a great game if you want to be challenged.  Skyrim is a great game if you want to be immersed.  At the end of the day, Skyrim will provide significantly more entertainment dollar for dollar.

I'd personally pick up Dark Souls and play it til Skyrim comes out, but it's an exclusive title so it's losing out on my money until it becomes dirt cheap.
