Why couldn't they give me a free penguin pet or corehound puppy instead..like they did when I forked over yet another $40.00 each for WOTLK and CATA. Aion offered "Veteran Rewards" from their very start...and i love the idea...getting rewarded for paying susbscription. FAIR! specacially when you are in a subscription MMO these days with all going FTP or PTW. Trion has been proved to listen to their community patch by patch, and they had always offered rewards for their players like with the "Ascend a friend" program or just in Wordl Events in game!
Thnx Trion :) |

Eq2 had, and to my knowledge still has, "veteran" rewards for as little as one day played. I remember getting a sweet backpack after i'd had my character for a day or so, and this was way back when you started without your final class. RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid. Taking an armor model already in the game and just making it player accessable cost them no money and no effort to do so. If you want to impress customers then give them something worth while, not something that took 10 mins of work in an excel spreadsheet. Plus it's pointless to compare this to WoW, the only reason they are doing this is to get more WoW subs over to them. |

I find it quite amusing that people read this as "Rift is failing so they put in Veteran rewards". In reality this is a good business strategy that gives people another incentive to stay subbed, nothing wrong with that. People do stuff like this all the time. The only reason you won't ever see this in WoW is because they cater to the "I MUST HAVE EVERYTHING OR I WILL QUIT" crowd. |

So the fact that Trion didn't slave over the veteran rewards means little to me. It's a little something for the playerbase...I'm sure they never thought anyone would name their newborns "Trion" after this update. As far as doing it to take WOW subs...isn't that what all mmos are striveing to do these days? |

I see nothing wrong with offering veteran rewards at all, a lot of mmos old and new do it. It is not because the game is failing or trying to lock people into longer subs. Also if you read information on veteran rewards you will get rewarded for the current time you have already played also. Aion has been offering rewards from almost the beginning of the game launch Startrek even bad is offering vet rewards City of heroes offers veteran rewards DC Universe I'm sure there are many others that did it almost from launch

the funny thing is that,no one seems to read the full article from their site...there will be many more items in the vendor, they just showed us only those for an example!
i dont know if RIFT is starving or desperate or something like that, what i know is that i play the game and i feel that 13Euro a month goes somewhere besides cotick's pocket...this game is out for 6 months and people compare it with WoW and guess in what part WoW wins?in the size of the world and the content(being 6 years old and stuff)there is no other part of those 2 games that WoW wins over
well i dont know about you guys BUT that says alot about TRION and many more about BLIZZARD and keep in mind that i like WoW and i believe is a good game...i was just burned out by the way blizz does things! |

Veterans rewards are a nice little bonus. It won't likely change how people sub unless they reward you with some very generous rewards for multi-month. Seriously if I was a month to month subber, I wouldn't up to a six months for one piece of gear. EQ2 you get house items, mounts, xp pots, vanity wear, pets, titles - quite a bit for long term veterans or those willing to do the longer sub up front.
End of the day I'm glad TRION keep listening to their player base and adjusting accordingly. Proud member of Hammerfist Clan Gaming Community. Currently playing: RIFT, EQ2, WoW, LoTRO |

On one hand I like the idea behind all veteran rewards programs. It rewards long-term loyal subscribers with items to prance around in/with. It really only benefits those that enjoy the game otherwise. And on the other I always hated the fact that Blizzard never had a vet rewards system in place. It was something I was exposed to in UO so I was waiting to see if Blizzard would take note. Oh well I stop playing 10 months ago so no biggie anymore.
I hope this new slew of mmo: GW2, TOR, TSW and other offer vet rewards off the bat. I'd love to see their versions of the old customer loyalty program.

Originally posted by itchmon EQ2 has the best veteran rewards EVER. You don't even have to sub the whole time to get them, as it goes by account age. Free bags, free broker cupboard thingy with 40 slots, free xp potions(so handy) cosmetic stuff, fireworks, housing items, titles, you name it it's there and just awesome. This is why I look at the Rift rewards and find myself cracking up. |

Maybe in a few year's, when you get some wisdom under your belt you maybe able to understand what a simple statement like that actually implies. Trion is hungry: They are a young company, they are working very hard to keep they're game successful. ie by rolling out free content and reward's. They are working hard to gain the loyalty of their customer base.
Blizzard is fat and lazy: They have achieved customer loyalty and success beyond their wildest dream's. They could roll out 10X the content that Trion can but... they don't have to. They were young and hungry once, but that was a long time ago. Add a raid and some more dailies- that will keep them happy for another six month's. IMHO adding a cash shop to WoW was a slap in the face to their subscriber's. A way to get more money from already paying customer's, they sure don't need it to keep WoW financialy viable. If they were hungry like Trion those things could have been vetran reward's, I don't play either game. I have played both, WoW for me at one time was the greatist thing since sliced bread. You don't have to agree with my statement. Each to their own. |

GW2 will likely follow suit from GW1 and offer birthday presents based on the age of each character you have on your account (i.e. make all the characters you want on day 1!) I really have to laugh at the whole 'vet rewards = failing subs' argument though. In fact anyone that makes that argument is essentially proving that they know little besides WoW as most MMOs offer a vet rewards program, most of them were in place at or very close to launch and many existed long before WoW... Seriously people, if anything the fact that WoW doesn't have them is a good indication of how little Activision-Blizzard actually care about their subscribers... |

I enjoy Rift, but the thing that gets me about this is that the 18 month reward they have listed - the "Tricorne or the Drowned Thief" - is an item that you can get from doing an underwater event that is level 20 or 30 and just involves killing a boss monster. I already have it sitting in my bank vault. |
