Hi guys,

So from what we have heard from multiple beta testers is that SWTOR seems to be on track to be a great solid Theme Park MMO. However, one concern that many beta testers share is that people may get disappointed due to unrealistic/hyped expectations. Yet it is never very clear what are players' expectations for SWTOR, especially from those more reasonable supporters. So I would like to hear what is your expectation for SWTOR in the following areas:

 

1. Customization (including character creation, UI, ship and companion customization)

2. Re-playbility & Unique story content (amount of unique story quests per class)

3. Exploration

4. End Game PVE

5. End Game PVP

 

To give an example for comparison, let's say the worst case scenario for each area is as follows (Note: I am not saying the game will be like this, just something serves as a low bound, even then the game will still be fun):

1. Limited character creation, almost no UI and ship customization, and very limited companion customization (e.g. you can choose 1 out of 3 preset skins for companions)

2. Each class has 20-30 hours of unique very cool class quests where choices matter, the other 80% of levelling consist of the same world quests/side quests you will need to repeat on replay for each faction. The world quests/side quests are fun but not affected by choices.

3. Couple planets in each faction are huge and fun to explore, other planets are beautiful but linear with limited exploration

4. EV is the only operation and easier than typical WoW raid

5. Three war zones, open world pvp on PvP server, territory control map similar to WoW, fun combat

 

Using the worst case scenario as an example/bencmark, what is your expectation for each area and how far is your expectation from the benchmark? If there's a difference in expectation and worst senario turns out to be true, which area where you expect differently will be most disappointing and which area you don't care about?

1. Customization (including character creation, UI, ship and companion customization)

On the character level: Supposedly there is a lot of variation in gear for each class. Added to that there is a color matching system and deep modding options which makes the item itself less of a crucial factor compared to many games as you will be augmenting them with a lot of mods and the item's stats are a relatively small part of the combined strength. In theory that allows people to wear alternative gear and still be effective. Also there is this alignment system with rewards influencing looks which will play a role in this.

Really hoping for spaceship modification as well as actually buying whole new, different spaceships eventually.

2. Re-playbility & Unique story content (amount of unique story quests per class)

This no doubt will be a rich and laureled aspect to Swtor. I'm not much of an alt-herder myself but I can see myself wanting to play all classes just for the epic story ride. I think there will be plenty of people doing so untill they settle on a max leveled main.

3. Exploration

Supposedly its important (with stat enhancing rewards even) but it's content that is going to run out eventually. I hugely enjoyed exploring in WAR (pretty much the most fun aspect in that game) but it lasted me a week or two at hardcore pursuing of objectives with the use of a walkthrough. After that I helped guildies getting their objectives which was fun too.

Some people might not want to cheat like that, but eventually, for everyone on his/her second character, it will become something that you will want to do in the most effective, quickest way: you already did all that content on your previous char anyway.

4. End Game PVE

Fully depends on how hard the hardest flashpoints and operations are. Experienced raiding guilds will throw themselves at this content and if it's to easy or too shallow of a path to reach the final objectives there will be a cesspit of discontent. I don't have a clue, personally. I do think that casual flashpointing for duo's with a few companions will be a hugely relaxing aspect to Swtor's pve, hoping that this is also catered for in endgame worthy content.

5. End Game PVP

 Looking forward to this: Curious about the objective based world pvp. If it can't keep us interested in the long run, there's always player organized events and skirmishes in the open world on pvp servers. The warzones and hutball don't interest me so much, personally.

You forgot about crafting!

Hoping that that will be a hugely compelling aspect in the endgame, especially with multiple characters supplementing eachother.

I think it will be successful. I also think it will be a pretty generic theme park game, and I don't plan on purchasing it.

That the game will fail over the first year, rund over by games a GW 2, TSW, or prime. And the game is leftover for the fans.

I have the following expectations

- I expect to be able to log in

- I expect to have virtual intercourse with some female companion so when my GF asks what im doing I can say f****** pixels

- I expect to enjoy the story for the first time in any MMO i've ever played (Like 100 of em)

- I expect people to trash talk the game for no reason

- I expect people to trash talk the game for failures of what lies between the chair and monitor

- I expect people to trash talk the game taking minor stuff to the extreme

- I expect people to post I Quit threads about the game not being PRe NGE SW

- I expect people to post how it's WoW in SWTOR skin regardless to the fact it feels nothing like WoW other than similar controls/UI.

- I expect people to cry about open PvP after saying they joined for it

- I expect to see balance complaints

- I expect to see difficult raids or group objectives to be nerfed into easy mode.

- I expect a population regardless to all the people who are never happy regardless to what game it is all they do is complain.

 

that's my only expectations as I'm pretty laid back and enjoy everything withotu expecting it.

I expect something akin to Dragon Age, typical sliders for advanced facial customization (PC). I also expect different body types to be an option. For companions I expect a few different outfits and limited racial tweaks, also different roles for combat situations.

I expect ship options will come later..

2. Re-playbility & Unique story content (amount of unique story quests per class)

As long as it's not an identical experience on my second or thrid play-through I'm content. To be specific about what I expect, each base class story is unique, so that's a unique experience each play through. As for world quests and filler quests, given the option of choices to make in those encounters there are different outcomes to see and different results that can be seen as an aside to those choices. Add to that I may not play through every quest line on my first play through there may be others to do on my next. TOR seems to be hitting the mark  in this deparment.

3. Exploration

This I don't want to speculate on too much, though I am holding out hope.

4. End Game PVE

Don't know..

5. End Game PVP

Not big on BG's though these do look fun in TOR, World PVP sounds promising, add to that all the peeps I know who will be playing, looks like fun times are ahead, for me anyway.

20 hours of unique story-gameplay per class (not advanced class), the rest is shared with the rest of your faction.

I have no idea. Usually not a big thing in themeparks, and I get the feeling BioWare is keeping its planet designs pretty tight/linear.

4. End Game PVE

One or two Operations at launch. Also a planet filled with daily quests.

5. End Game PVP

 Three war zones, world PvP on PvP servers, and a PvP planet for everyone where you can control objectives, kinda like a Warhammer RvR lake.

While all the spamming, griefing, trolling 12 year olds stay in WoW, I expect it to be a nice pleasant game to play.

Then when it becomes popular, I expect it to be filled with griefing children.  I expect the game to become dumbed down to cater to a "broader" demographic,  I expect pvp to become the focus of the game, then I expect it to become a kidfest and the adults will look, yet again for another "more mathy and complicated" mmo to delve into. 

The pvp thing:  most publishers turn to the pvp route:  it's the cheapest expansion content you can get.  new tier of gear:  BAM!  kiddie content!

I hope it develops a niche crowd with detail and depth that takes at LEAST 6 months to cap out.     We all know how children behave when they max a game out in a month and then decide to make the game bad for the rest of us...

 

One more thing:  I HOPE...*crosses fingers*  they MONITOR and apply DISCIPLINARY actions to trouble makers...but then that would offend children and their parent's money for subs...

 If there's a difference in expectation and worst senario turns out to be true, which area where you expect differently will be most disappointing and which area you don't care about?

It'll be disappointing if the quest content per class would be no higher than 20 hours. Customisation of character is good enough to me when it's basic, what you see in most AAA MMO's.

These very likely contradict known details.  I only follow this casually.

 

1. Classes with distinct looking armors.  Ship, UI... very little.  Companions... no clue.

2. Low level unique content quite high.  By mid-levels less.  Very little by endgame.

3. Limited.  Perhaps large zones, but I expect quest hub hopping.

4. Raiding, maybe some epic level questing.

5. Battlegrounds, Arenas, little to none in quest oriented zones.

I hope that TOR does well. I'll be playing from the beginning and would LOVE to finally find a 'home' (game) that will keep me locked for years (I'd be happy with a single year at this point. Time will tell.

 

I suppose customization, replayability (alts and more alts) as well as PvP both for leveling and end game... oh, and crafting.

I don't like to craft 24/7 but I really enjoy making my little lists of X numbers of this and Y number of that. It is tiresome mentally though to 'grind-craft' with no value in the leveling of the craft e.g. end crafting of one or two items being the only real value. I guess I like to make my own gear as much as possible.

simple 250 - 300 hours of enjoyable gameplay. That would be about 20 - 25 cents per hour

Not impressed at all with the characters I've seen so far.  Sorry, but the models look like they're from about 3-4 years ago.  This may not matter if the combat and gameplay is smooth.

I don' t have an opinion on this yet since I haven't played it.  Only time will tell.

Exploration.  You mean freedom? Hard to answer, again, but my expectations are fairly low becaue of the 'story' driven nature of the game.  I imagine I can explore whatever quest or mission zone I'm in, but I expect that most of my movements will be directed where the game wants me to be.

 

4. End Game PVE

 

I don't expect this game to offer much in this regard, at least at first.  Mostly because of the dev's strong focus on the leveling expereince and replayability.  Unless they release some more info on this subject, my expectations will remain somewhat low.

 

5. End Game PVP

 

It all depends on balance between factions, classes and rewards.  I don't have much of an opinion on this yet.

 

I'm not negative toward this game, but I'm reserving my excitement.  For some strange reason, the more I see, the less interested I'm getting and I'm not sure why.
