What impact did 9/11 have on the world and also to you?
For me no single figure since the Second World War has made so profound an impact on world events as Osama bin Laden. Had the world responded to his 9/11 attack on America with moderation he would probably have disappeared, expelled from Afghanistan or killed by his Tajik enemies. Even the Taliban were known to have been shocked by 9/11, when almost the entire Muslim world came out in sympathy with America (including the PLO in Palestine).
It was a brief moment of American moral supremacy. Yet by launching armed aggression, first against Afghanistan and then against Iraq, America wholly squandered this gain. The aggression led to a tide of anti-Americanism and surge of support for fanatical Islamism across the Muslim world. The wars cost tens of thousands of lives and caused mass destruction. The billions of dollars expended on them were financed largely from borrowing, which in turn has destabilized the world economy. All this was out of all proportion to the attacks on 9/11. Indeed the response to 9/11 was as Bin Laden must have dreamed. He saw widespread hostility towards the west and its aggressive behavior in the Muslim world. Civil liberties were curbed and governments reverted to cold war paranoia. America was again the great Satan. The peace dividend so eagerly waited at the end of the 20th century evaporated as the security industry exploited counter-terrorism and seized every chance of profit and risk aversion. Bin Laden became a role model for fanatics everywhere. The decade since 9/11 must rank among the most inept and counterproductive eras in the story of modern statesmanship.

Interrupted a decent tv session before school started, and nearly every channel was flooded with it.

Let's just pray that it will not happen again, and besides we suffered a lot ever since the world reacted to the 9/11 attacks. But who knows, our own country might be the next target! |

Originally posted by gebon524 To be brief, the effects are still playing out. The impact on the market, etc etc. The US dollar having the effect on the planet that it did and does, it's de stablization and that impact, has'nt finished playing out, and will probably not be fully appreciated for decades. Personally, it was nearly a game ender for me, and altered the state of my retirement irreparably. One a positive note, for a couple weeks, imediately following the incident, in America, there were no racial lines. Yes there was a problem with creed. But there was no black and white , etc etc, or that was my observation. Each time we passed another person (regardless of race, or status), on the street, or going into a store, we would look each other dead in the eyes, do a gut check and a slight nod, and be thankfull we were'nt alone. We had another American, right there, on the same page. It should've already been that way, yes. It didn't last for very long, yes. Did we learn anything from it? Any of it? That can only be answered in each persons heart. That the answer is not a resounding, "Yes," may be the greatest danger we yet face. See the world and all within it. |

Originally posted by grunty I was 11 y old and tv shows were my last concerns. Terrorists destroyed two towers, it shocked me and i was very interested into the development of events. Anyway, the impacts were multiple, economic , new wars, a new fear for terrorism, etc. Fere libenter homines id quod volunt credunt. |

It was indeed a huge event which heavily impacted the world but the media has the control of the impact tbh. It was a devastating event which affected so many lives which will be remembered for many years to come. But the war in Iraq, that was a complete fiasco, so many people(insurgents) were killed and millions of lives were ruined, which will be long forgotten...wait, there was a war in Iraq right? |

For me that was the brutal, and should I say brilliant Idea of the terrorist. because they wake up the cold blood of everybody, and that tragedy make the whole world panic, stress, and the positive thing the terrorist make the whole world prepared and alert in time of trouble. this kind of insident makes me think that even there is a tragedy there will be a lesson for every trials that will be in return. |

The September 11 attacks (called September 11, September 11th or 9/11),were a series of four coordinated suicide attacks against targets in New York and Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger jets. The hijackers intentionally crashed two planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City; both towers collapsed within two hours. Hijackers crashed a third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. When passengers attempted to take control of the fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, it crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, preventing it from reaching its intended target in Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 died in the attacks. OMG peoples are getting worst and worst by the time goes by. Terrorism is spreading. |

I saw a group of idiots do something idiotic and got a big reaction from another group of idiots. 9/11 and the wars that followed proved that trolling can be deadly. As for me personally 1998 and 1999 were going great. 2000 to 9/10/2001 were actually fantastic. Since 9/11 I witnessed everything I was growing in to became a stuttering pile of crap. I don't blame any one group either. The fact that society changed and has changed and I don't see any foreseeable return to a better time in the near future... I don't think a pile of body bags has done much to alter the goal of the attack. I think a dept crisis and the cusp of an outright civil war in Western society spells out the success of the attack. 10 years later we still have a lot to mourn. It didn't have to be that way. I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee. |

It ruined lifes of countless people not only that it affected their families, because most people that was harmed has children needing the support of their parents. Many people lost thier jobs, love ones, loss income, even foreigners got affected to the attacks. Business investors in America suddenly dropped due to the thinking of lack of security in America. Lets Pray for those who lost thier love ones and affected by this terrorism. |

9/11 ruined Grandparent's Day. Now people's poor grandparents have everyone running around saying "never forget", and they forget about them.
The whole concept of "never forget" is pretty dumb and shows it's just turning into a slogan to be exploited for money with commemorative this and collectible that. When was the last time someone said over the last ten years, "9/11? What happened on 9/11? I don't remember anything important happening on that date." |
