I personally think she lets the CSRs off too easily, but otherwise a fairly accurate assessment of the game.

I haven't played Ryzom regularly in a while so I'm not sure how accurate this is. If it is, it's very sad. I've been playing off and on for little bits at a time on the newbie isle and people seem friendly and helpful there. No idea what it's like on the mainland now.

Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: GW2, ArcheAge

Much of this is pretty spot on. I also decided to call it a day because of harrasment issues. The CSRs were about as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Also it's hard to trust them, one in particular seems way too close to some of the players, nothing wrong with being close to the player base, but as the article put it it's always 'the important people'.

As for Iala claimig he is a vet, I recall him clueless and begging for cats in uni, and this was long long after temples.

If I was to use one word to describe the community now it would be, clicky. They will be nice, but woe betide you if you do or say  things they do not like or agree with. Sometimes it feels like everyones walking around smilling through gritted teeth.

What I did see a lot of when I returned was a lot of new people being taken into guilds, sometimes spammed invites without a word, a bunch of cats and gear thrown at them and told to get on with it.

I miss Ryzom, I long to do some digging and I miss playing my tryker, but the way things are it's impossible to return, the important people have their game, everyone has to play on their terms. They do indeed think they are gods gift to MMOs, if that's the case why is the population unhealthly small.

Greetings friends,

I have been playing Ryzom off and on since it's initial release years ago. I have been a very, very part-time player, but I cannot stay away from this beautiful world with it's intriguing story, dynamic, alive world, and helpful community.  Although I have not been involved in community events at all really, it is ashame that some long-time veterans are being chased away by a few bad apples.  Having said this though, don't you think that these few bad apples could be ignored?  Couldn't they just be socially ostrasized?  Is the CSR community so ineffective that they can't enforce a no harassment policy if one of these folks gets out of line?  Why quit something that you obviously love so much?

Not really as easy as that, for example. A guild was told that if they let me join them their OP would be attacked. Sadly some of these bad apples have a lot of weight to throw around, and do so behind peoples backs. I knew my issue would not be easy to sort, and did not want to rock the boat, just went back to the game for some quiet digging. So I thought a name change would help, something I thought that would sort 2 issues, something I did not know about my name and the harassment issue. The original CSR I spoke to was just instantly dismisive before I even got to finish saying what I had to. I thought what I asked would be a quick and easy solution, but no and no other solution was provided. It would not bother me as much if it was not for the fact I knew a few that have had a name change for no real reason, just because they wanted to.

So what are we meant to think, a few bad apples that when not messing up play of people they don't like or hold a grudge against spend their time smiling with a shiny smile at CSRs, asking , "can I shine your shoes Sir, I luvs you CSR".

The place has just got clicky, I would not even voice in the forum about aspects I do not like in the game anymore cause some people will just jump down your throat, followed my messages of "**** off out the game." There's a serious undercurrent of frustration among the player base, I'm of the view it's because of lack of player diversity and new blood, lack of serious  new content and expansion and things just not getting fixed some of them very basic. The game feels like it's falling into disrepair and no real direction.

But with all that said given the chance I would go back, I never did finish my 250 lake dig, but they don't want ma monies so meh. Anyway this I the last I will speak about it, nothings going to change

The article isn't accurate at all about the state of Ryzom.

The new trial system, linux client, and mac client have all brought a lot of new players to the game.

The events are getting better and better.

Advanced Occupations are being added to the game, one at a time.

A lot of veteran players are returning and staying for more than a week.

Even friends of the article's writer that were supposably run out of the game or so fed up they canceled their subscription are back.

And Ryzom does have an ignore list if there are players you just don't want to deal with. And very easy to move a character from the friends list to the ignore list or viceversa.

Glaz,

Your fanboism is commendable but nothing in your post invalidates what was printed in Kalyndras article. The article was about the quality of the players in the game and not the quantity. It doesn’t matter how many people are returning to the game if they continue with the behaviors described in the article. And those behaviors are most certainly still happening. As one of the returning players I’ve seen it happening already. For instance Khandoma was trying to help trek someone to Dyron. The person was in team already with Chongon (hiding behind an alt) who told them that it would be a TERRIBLE THING to team with her. Really?!? Khandoma? She is probably the sweetest, kindest person you’ll ever find in game and he is spreading lies about her to new players just because he has a ridiculous grudge against her guild. This is the kind of stuff the article is talking about. I don’t know if you are just wearing rose colored glasses or are just too busy botting to notice what is going on, but they are happening. I see it, Jadacks up above has seen it, Kalyndra has seen it, a recent post on the in-game forums by Tumbleweed(if it hasn’t been deleted. Another problem with the CSRs) shows that he has seen it as well. There are many others who also see it but are too afraid to speak up about it.  So please open your eyes and hold those truly accountable for their actions and not the ones trying to actually improve the game experience for ALL players and not just a select few.

You talk of others spreading lies about your guildies.

Then you accuse me of botting!

You may take and make such accusations lightly but I do not.

I repeat again --- I have never botted, never even looked at botting software/hardware.

Kalyndra's article is, of course, a subjective account and does not try to be otherwise, for Kaly knows pretty well that for every truth there's at least a dozen of other truths, and every player she mentions or does not mention in a good or in a bad sense has his own view and his own truth which might be congruent, different, or downward contradictory. One of the facts of life is that when two people get together, the seed of misunderstanding is brought out - and it might end up in love or war. When you get three people together ... well, you know what I mean.

What bugs me, Ludis, is the fact that you denote a player which shares not your reading on Kalyndra (and most likely not Kalyndra's sentiment) of "fanboism", which is nothing else but - if you excuse the term - arrogant. There are several ways of mobbing. It can (and often does) include the loss of any critical distance (which can work both ways) and the enforcement of one's own view or position on another (which Kalyndra doesn't). Denoting another player is one instrument of disparaging his or her position as worthless to take it out of any discussion without the need of confounding his or her arguments. I do realise, of course, that you state that he/her does not address main themes brought up by Kaly, but then in turn you do neither address most of the themes addressed by him/her. Now I'd like to ask you if you would like to be handled the same way?
