No but thanks for mentioning it I had no idea about it, (I find keeping track of elder scrolls mods pretty mind bending). Cheers. |

I do not think your really out growing your hobby? I mean its your hobby your chosing to do this for fun. I do however think that the games your playying just aren't really catching your interest anymore. I know this is true for me as well and I'm 19 so do not worry about getting older. Lol You just gotta broden your gaming horizon until you find a game that interest you. It might take you awhile, hell there may not even be a game out at the current moment that would even catch your attention. But stay positive and keep looking and you will find something. Also to anwser your posts question; its probably games are just getting boring, the reason for this is simple. Game are pretty much all the same with just a different skin on it. Atleast thats how it is for me now a days. |

Originally posted by Angier2758 I hope not! I'm 45 and I hope I never outgrow games. Of course, I work, read, and have a life. But instead of watching TV, I like to play games. I've restarted playing Morrowind and Oblivion, just to read all the books and do all the side quests, and really appreciate the awesomeness of the Elder Scrolls. I may go back for the free DL of Daggerfall. And while I play, I'm thinking about what it is that makes these games so awesome. I'm also thinking about exploring Ultima Online for the first time. I want to see what this game is (or maybe what it was) that still makes people talk about it as an amazing mmorpg. I want to be a noob. I don't know if it's possible to find it, but I will try. I do play Rift. It is not a fascinating world. I play with 1-3 people I know from time to time and we do warfronts together. It's like a lobby where we can jump on and do something light just for fun together, which we obviously connot do in a closed single-player game like Morrowind or Oblivion. So at the end of this ramble, my question is: Is there any way to make a living, breathing game world with depth and substance that by it's very nature will attract intelligent players and turn away the impatient compulsive spacebar jumpsters? And I'm not talking about EVE, because I want an avatar that's not a spaceship. |

You unlocked this door with the key of imaginative thinking. Beyond it is another dimension with furry dice, hairless critters, erect apes and realistic ideas. You've just crossed over into the The Real World. :)) Personally for me, I hate what they've done to games, they're not built around fun anymore. They don't set my imagination on fire like they used to. Alot of it is because I understand them better and know how they work. That magic is gone. Although, I still enjoy just messing around and doing quarky stuff in games, not really taking them seriously as far as top scores or being proud of my skills or any of that, but just letting lose and seeing what happens, try to get a laugh. I don't think you can outgrow games. They may not be at the top of the priorities list at the moment. Edit: Oh yeah, I'm playin' Enemy Territory at the moment Waitin' on Tribes Universe to come out, or what's it called now, lemme look (opening window and search... loddy da...) "Tribes Ascend". Kinda like the skating, check it out it might be up your alley, or not. http://www.tribesuniverse.com/

I'm bored too. I dont enjoy games in general like i used to enjoy them 10 years ago. The main reason is probably because they all look and play the same with very little variation. This is especially true for all the recent MMO's. Hell even single player, all these Halo clones games, bored me instantly. I have a hard to believe developpers these days have no imagination anymore and only tried to immitate. |

Originally posted by MMO.Maverick The test is designed to show what your favoritism is towards. If you said "nothing is different" then you're more of a "Freedom of Choice" player. If you specified the "differences" you enjoy themepark hand-holding linear quest driven games. Just because you have a COUPLE extra paths to travel (ala SWTOR) does NOT make it non-linear.
The primary goal is to identify if YOU are burning out on your hobby, or if it's the games themselves becoming highly boring. What is boring to one is NOT boring to another. |

Originally posted by Fadedbomb Hmm, but wouldn't it make more sense to list other MMO's as well, to see if it's the genre or a personal change of taste and perspective that's the issue?
Like, for example, list APB, Xsyon, Earthrise, FFXIV, EVE Online, CO, Vindictus, Perpetuum Online, Ryzom, Vanguard, and such. Those are different types of MMO. If someone states that he also finds those MMO's boring, then it might not ust be the MMO's but someone himself or herself that has been changing without them being aware of it. A narrow, pickier taste and inability to enjoy things that someone could enjoy in their youth or earlier in their gaming path, can be a sign of someone outgrowing a hobby, a change in preferences and priorities and likings. For example, a lot of people enjoyed EQ immensely when they played it 10 years ago, but I wonder if all of them will still do in the same way if they'd return to EQ or an MMO with the exact same mechanics. This doesn't happen just with games but with a lot of interests and tastes that someone can have over the years. The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's |

I think its a little of both, you may have played mmo's for years like me and you probly had 1 game in particular u talk about or refer and compare to all other games. This Primus game you have is always going to be the best and shinyest. As you grow older and wiser you realize that all these games are just about the same with few exceptions here and there. WoW Clone!!! well lets looks at wow? what is WoW a clone of? nothing? not true WoW is a copy of EQ and FFXI (just a personal oppinon) all games are similar to one another because there are only so many keys on a keyboard to be used and the most convient keys are utiliuzed for the game. When choosing a game to play you should look at what your interested in , do you like storys? ot maybe your an action fan. Raids? pvp? FPS? the truth is there is just to many people making games and their whole goal is to make money not make a game that is new and inovating. Lets look at some MMO's Rift : Whats different about this game? custom classes? psst . nothing new if a class is relied apon by skill tree's doesnt matter if you can train 3 skill trees at a time a skill tree is a skill tree nothng new here just more old same shit. When i played Rift i felt like i was playing WoW and Warhammer combine. WoW the most played MMO out there. why? because it made gaming easy no longer do you need a party of people to enjoy mmos but can be done solo!. EVE. this is the most origonal and hardest mmo's to play truly a mmosandbox and one of the best mmo's out there FF14: complete fail this is an example of a game that could and still be great if a lil more time went into its development instead of releeasing it a year early.
and as for free to play most of them are ALL the same .
so Game are infact Boaring because the whole point is to push out as many as the company can so they can make cash and also as you grow older and realize the bullshit of life you figure out that videogame are videogame and if you onlly play them you will nver get anyware . your mind is trying to tell your body to get a job get a goal and get busy. I dont exactly disagree with the idea of "out growing" mmos since im not old enough to judge but i playing from the ultima and EQ days I can say that there hasnt been anything different for the past decade. Im only 22 but i started playing MMOS very young due to the shalowness of consoles and even moreso what consoles are today. Sure i work full time and just game whenever i have spare time and possibly the fact i hardly get out bothers me, but there is no motivation to do so for me. Every once in a great while there might be a great movie, but other than that I dont exactly enjoy smoking or drinking (while this isnt an excuse because the two dont need to be present for a social gathering) I dont find "going out" entertaining. Now the common exception is the girlfriend, but to most of you those vary depending on the girls personality. My girlfriend loves TF2, absolutely loves MMOS even more, plays FFXI with me (currently the only mmo thats keeping me inerested) and trys at all the new mmo launches with me. We go shopping for clothing, games PC components (knows almost as much as me when it comes to computers and loves building them with me) and occasionally go to MLG, PAX and other events when shes not in college/work. Im not sure how many hours a week is considered "going out" but i find that im not as worse off as most people. Rambling aside, i think its a combination of post WoW mmos that have diluted and made the current market crap. Developers are usually (always, most of the time) more about what makes them more money = game that attracts more players = game thats more casual to attract a larger age audience = bland ripoffs of WoW. Heres to hoping GW2 and SWTOR change that. What it is your usually missing is a game that rewarded you for you work, had a intersting crafting system, was about exploration and not smasing head face first on your keyboard till your max level. Post WoW Vanilla all the games have been like this. Most vets either joined the crowd or stayed playing a NOW poorly updated game or left altogether due to that miracle patch that "insert mmo title here" that attempted at the wow fix but wound up destroying the game all together. We have gathered here on the internet to fued, whine, moan and troll eachother due to the golden years of MMO gaming. Some of us continue to hope for a DAoC2 or a UO2, others became happy with a newer age mmo, or like myself FFXI's miracle patch (level cap increase and abyssea) did more good for the game than bad. A lot of bads and trolls made it into the game but there is never a lack of interesting friends to be made and adventured with. I meet players in a abyssea party the night before and the next day ill meet again and talk to them as i almost know them in RL (no joke) which is why its nice to not have anything in the game instanced. In the end it could he either OP, id suggest maintain a healthy balance of MMOs and RL and keep looking for that MMO. |

I'm 32, used to love MMORPGs but development went away from trying to design virtual worlds to designing virtual theme parks. I outgrew themeparks in 8'th grade, that is why I don't like MMORPGs.
I still love regular RPGs, but these MMORPGs today, I don't like at all.
-I think MMORPGs just outgrew needing my money.

Yup pretty much what others have said. It just called growing up, and our nature to make something of ourselves. You will see videogames as a stress reliever and relaxant hobby rather than your core life and adrenaline rush now. I enjoy it personally. Its just part of life's journey :) |
