The Story of the Week this time 'round isn't really so much a single story as a pair of stories surrounding Star Wars: The Old Republic. Both created a lot of stir and generated a ton of commentary. Read our Story of the Week Feature to see what we're talking about and then add a few comments. Associate Editor: MMORPG.com |

Lol here come the flames. People really don't like that mmorpg doesn't have too many "rosie" previews of ToR. As far as same sex story line, well it's the developers perspective. They didn't build it into the game, that's the end of that imo. I think it would have been an intruiging story line if the players had to deal with an over the top gay gal or guy in a dungeon or quest line. It could have been done for comic relief too. In the end it's ea/biowares creation, and while i think what we know of the game is rubish, it's theirs to own and build.
About gamescom, yeah I think it's insulting to give a rehashed EV showing. I haven't even looked at "huttball", I just rolled my eyes and moved on. Adding mini games to an mmo is not innovative or even freakin creative, it's a gimic to add to or suppliment the game because it's either missing something or it's "not good enough" to hold my attention. Is this a video game website or a drama website? Im disappointed in mmorpg.com for this :( Themepark is not a sub genre, its an excuse. |

People are mad about no SGR because it's been a mainstay of Biowsre games for over a decade. It's just weird for them not to include them.

Originally posted by star It is not weird because it is Star Wars game not Mass Effect so they are restricted by IP. I hardly doub it is there own decision since LA gets to make the last call on what Bioware should and shouldn't add to their IP. By not adding same sex relationship Bioware is also trying to keep raiting to 12+. However, players are free to roleplay with same sex players, just that it won't be in storyline. |

I can understand if it was an IP issue, but Lucas has been a supporter to homosexual issues, as has BioWare. So it surprises me that they didn't include a same-sex relationship but that dosn't mean it will never happen. There will be expansions which might bring new companions into the game so don't get all upset over it. Personally, I love gays and I believe in equality and it sucks that there isn't an option for that in this game either for them, or for the sake of having the option for a character that you might want to be gay. Only time will tell! |

Beg to differ with ya Suzie. I think crap flinging, angst ridden, knee jerking, forum monkeys were the story of the week. Huttball and the whole no same sex romance (in the champaign room) issues were just background we could use to justify our rioting.
Same as it ever was.

@Wizeard
There were gay characters in SW, and KOToR, so the IP 'issue' is a red herring. |

It's been so long since I played the original SWToR I don't remember if there was a same sex romantic relationship line in the game. I don't think there was. I didn't play the Obsidian one so can't say for that. Is it really that big of a deal? Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994. |

Originally posted by star Do you know any prominent gay characters in SW universe? moreover by not adding gay characters to SWTOR Bioware is not saying that 'gay's do not exists in SW universe', ofcourse they do but they don't consider it important enough to make your companions gays which will be main charactres of your storyline. But like i said last call is with LA. They can do whatever they want with their IP. Also i gave you various reasons why Bioware took this decision and 12+ raiting could be one of it. |

Originally posted by star I honestly think this is a moot point. How many other MMO's offer same sex NPC relationships for players? Yeah exactly, if it's not a requirement for everyone it's not a requirement for Bioware. To SB fans, please stop making our demographic look bad.Stop invading threads that have nothing to do with sandboxes. |

Yeah lol, the same sex controversy and fuss about huttball was highly entertaining. But then, the first makes Bioware cowards and the second one makes them shallow. j/k ;) |

@Distopia
See my first post. That's why there was such a hubabaloo. There are expectations that one has with a Bioware game, and a SGR arch is one of them. @Wiezard Juhani |

What MMORPG game has ever supported NPC romances? Why does it really matter that only a limited set are in TOR? How many romance options does WOW give you? None? Interesting.... People are starting to take sex and romance in their RPGs way too seriously. I enjoy the character development component of the "story", but don't really care if there is only interesting dialogue and no concept of really romance or sex.

Some right wing MBA asshole at EA probably but the kibosh on gay characters. Some of the posters here sounds like the homophobic Firefall fanbois. |

Great, SWTOR derangement syndrome has spread to the front pages of mmorpg.com. Where's a zombie killing hero when you need one? Maybe next we'll get an article on how MO's code base is complete and bug free. |

I don't care about romance with NPCs. Matter of fact, if one of my companions start to hit on my toon, I will do whatever I can to let him/her know that I am not interested. First occurrence would be a warning, second time, dismissal of the companion lol |
