11.8.26 This is terrible CS after forcing users that had SUPpOSEDLY already registered for beta and chosen a faction now having to spam through twiter or facebook and apParently register again, now there is mention of some kind of pre game (maybe the actual beta?) and the timer for access is changed to a busted image and about 0 feedback from devs! I try to read some post in the "official thread" now locked/closed and redirects to another thread, and by the time i read one page there are five or six new pages!

The Game Seems Like It'll Last For A Long Time After Its Release In My Opinion, Looks Good, Looking Forward To Trying Out The Beta. Can't Wait. |

Except that everything so far points out to THIS AS PRE-PLANNEd.(dark places twitter had 4 in its avatar for long time and we got a 4 hour delay and etc).
The "failure" to launch this was the start of new arg, most likely the whole project of facebook stuff was NOT supposed to launch - it ,alongside failure to launch and what is going on now was a part of new ARG which leads to beta keys . # A GRIM, ODD, ARCANE SKY |

We knew that Funcom isn't able to launch a game decently, but now they can't even manage to start a beta? Few days ago i wrote that it'll be hard to top the failure the AoC launch was, but it seems they already did so. |

Originally posted by Yuui I have to say I think it's a pretty horrible idea to be a company with a reputation for bad launches and then decide to do an ARG that at first glance appears like you just completely botched your beta signup. It really doesn't help that the site was actually down the first time I went there shortly after the countdown was due to be up. I want to say I don't mind the idea of an ARG if we actually did know for sure it was a contest. I'm not even sure if that's the case anymore. There's an ARG speculation thread on their forum that is now about 78 pages. I got about 2 pages into it and everyone just posting their random google results before I just wanted to run screaming. Maybe if I played the game and had a small group of friends that we worked on it together, that would be different. I just can't handle the forum dump. |

Current recap of Funcom's "launch": 1) Timer breaks down and at 8:28pm (local time @ Funcom) they announce the timer is broken. 2) 1 hour later they announce they are still working on the problem 3) 3 hours after initial post, they announce they are making progress on the problem 4) 4 hours after initial post, they say they need 90 more minutes to fix it. 5) At 3:11 a.m (roughly 7 hours since the timer broke), they say it will be up and running by NOON (another 9 hours, or 16 hours since the original post) 6) At 1:11pm (1:11 after it was supposed to be working), they post that they are gathering information on the current status. 7) At 2:18pm they announce that they expect a delay of several more hours.
Now, if you know much about Funcom, you know the following: A) They can't seem to launch a game smoothly; and B) You can't believe what they say or show about a game pre-launch no matter how many times they promote a certain aspect of the game (Direct X 10 in AOC was on the cover of the box of the game and yet wasn't included for crying out loud).
All signs from this disaster beta signup fiasco point that nothing has changed at Funcom. I wouldn't bother buying this game but perhaps wait a few months to see what really is in the game and if it is worthwile. |

Originally posted by phantiasmic There is a difference between closed limited beta testing, and then open beta testing/stupid contest give-aways. Beta testing is about testing and finding bugs to make the game a better place for everyone, not for some person to just come in and find out everything about the game, share with his buddies and then 8itch and moan a month later because they are bored. You used to feel special when you got into a beta, that you were a chosen elite to help make the game better. Now betas are just whored out to help "market" their game, which in my opinion backfires because everyone picks the game apart in beta and has basically "played the whole game" by the time the game actually releases. Rift is a good example in my opinion, though it is still going decently, it definetly has dropped off. (No creditable sources on this, but I guess I just base it on what I see in the different forums). People complaining about lack of content, bored. Yeah, well I wonder why. Open beta pretty much showed you everything and let you experience everything in the game. There is a reason you are bored. I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors. |

Typical new product release issues. Everything will be fine, and the game will do quite well. Forum posters typically represent the extreme wings of the entire population, which, statistically speaking, represent the "outliers" of the total sample, and hence are statistically insignificant. LOLZ what does that make me then... This is going to be fun! Can't wait. |

Due to technical difficulties we have decided to postpone the first phase of the Secret War experience and the beta registration until further notice.
We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused those of you who had taken time to visit our website on August 26th to sign up for the beta and take part in the first phase of The Secret War. We will be working relentlessly to make sure the experience and the beta registration are up as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Sincerely, Funcom

I spent the best part of a day being convinced this was another ARG, but it would seem now just to have been a bit of a cack-handed screw-up. On the news article on the front page there is an additional line: "P.S: The delay has also been picked up by the Council of Venice, who are already on the case!" But to be honest, even if this is an ARG, I've already given it enough time. I'm off to read a book, and I'll wait for the email notification I signed up for last week. Life's too short to get all stressed out over beta access. |

Funcom should rather beta-test their betas. But then it would still go wrong. |
