Originally posted by UnleadedRev Well I know players are desperate for something of quality thats new and exciting. Swtor is probably going to be a prime alternative plus its not the same old fantasy stuff.
And if you're still hungry for more fantasy GW2 is coming that looks AAA as well.
So its a double threat and I figure they are probably feeling it. Not as much as they probably will be though. |

Well, I don't think Blizzard is getting desperate, it's more like they are wanting to maximize profits without doing a bunch of work. They are just maintaining WoW until Titan comes out. They have lost 900k subs since the release of Cataclysm (could be more at this point), and they are rushing through this expansion (Deathwing raid will be out before the end of the year). So it's obvious they didn't like the way things were going with the xpack, so they are going to push to end it, and start a new focus with the next xpack. Also consider that with their new Transmogrification system (which is just a fancy costume system that is also a gold sink), they made every single old raid that is just sitting there useless, actual content again. You will have people who will run the old raids for the old tier sets so they can make their characters look the way they want. Again, Blizzard isn't adding actual new content, just making old content more relevant. Finally, WoW is just old know. It turns 7 this November. I feel it's finally reached a point that no matter what Blizzard does for WoW that it's now on the downslope. It reached peak sub numbers right at the release of Cataclysm, and has only gone down since that point. The game won't die, and we all know this. Hell, even it if lost 1 million subs per year, it would still continue to be the most populated game for a number of years (since those lost subs most likely all won't go to the same singular game). WoW will be in a holding pattern of providing just enough content to make it seem like they still have a focus on WoW until Titan is released. I guess the true question is, when will Blizzard officially announce what Titan is and start the hype train. Hell, Blizzard could even add in their own Hall of Monuments type of thing and make a bunch of the achievements require the lastest xpack content, and people would complete those for whatever rewards available in Titan. |

Personaly I think Blizzard is losing it's magic. Too wrapped up in corporate greed putting their best thinking into ways of raking in $ rather then fun and inovative game play. Same old.. same old... wrapped up in a nice new shiny package for 3 times the price here's looking at you Starcraft

This is my first post here (cheers me) anyways, as far as Blizzard getting "desperate" thats ree donk you luss. They lost 900k from Cata, safe to say a 3rd of those players if not half or more returned to check out Firelands, out of those folks some stayed and some went. Its the facts of life for any and all MMOs. Will SWtoR affect WoW's subscriber base? you bet, so will my little pony online but that doesnt mean WoW is dead or...desperate. Blizzard has time and again posted update after update after update to enhance their players game lifestyle, those things the OP mentioned while something they've been working on for a while is nothing to stay that they are desperate. So who cares if they lose half their subscriber base... 6million subs is nothing to laugh about. Posts like this is dumb. While I havent played WoW in over a year and having a bit of information regarding the new SWtoR that everyone is just praising the force about, some of you are going to be very very very disappointed. The game does not deviate so far from the mother tree (World of Warcraft is SWtoR's Teldrasil) that its going to blow big momma away. The questing and cutscenes and voice acting will surely blow a players mind, but everything else in the game is .... WoW

The people that makes this kind of threads remind me of my ex. Everytime she was in "those days" she would whine, complain and announce that the world was over and our relationship was coming to an end, then whenever the shitstorm passed, she would forget all about it. The next month, as her next few days approached, the doomsaying began all over again. Rawr. |

I'm thinking that Blizzard isn't 'desperate' about anything, because they've made billions of dollars on WoW making it a wild unfathomable success. If anything, they're adapting to the market.

Even if i grow up with Star Wars i will never play new Star Wars mmo it is really simple for it is per the 3 1st movie of Star Wars saga. Sure people will buy the new Star Wars MMO but in the end i think most people will leave it for if the are to easy to get end game and company dont push out end game content people will get bored after few month and go back to there old MMO again. Also this biowars 1st MMO game every so dont expect a smooth ride in start other but i guess time will tell if new Star Wars will be WoW killer or not i dont think so. |

Originally posted by UnleadedRev Blizzard lost most of the best people in the last 6 years. The people that made Blizzard great are not working for them anymore. Instead they work of ArenaNet, Carbine. Runicgames, Trion, and many other studios. I cant wait to see Blizz fail, tho is gona take some time. They still gona make dumb down mmorpgers, and people will fall for it, but with quality competition, things wont be easier for Blizz.
I was a huge Blizzard fan since, Warcraft I, in 2005 Blizzard died for me, Same with Bioware when they sold to EA. The last good game Bioware developed was KOTOR 1. ME 1 wasnt bad either, but unfinished. |

The game is 6 years old. The fact that every PoS doesn't make them worried is just a tribute to the depth of game they have created. WoW isn't going to just suddently die no matter how good SWTOR is or GW2 .. at some point it may fade to the point where they have to close it, but taking UO as an example .. it won't be anytime soon, and like any good company they will continue to try and keep it relevant to players. This time of year is always packed with news and changes as they prepare for Blizzcon. These forums are so hilarious for their incessantly contradictory posts. In one forum you have Rift fanbois saying Rift is better than WoW because it has content patches every other day and in another you have SW:TOR fanbois saying WoW is desperately trying to pack in a bunch of content because they are afraid od SW:TOR. It's depressing to read this much stoopid. LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. |

What I foresee, is that the SWToR community will be flocked by adults that complain about kids, while acting like kids themselves. Just look at this thread for example, it's filled with so much garbage and useless bashing which does nobody any good. I, personally, do not have a problem with the community of WoW, Rift or WAR. What I do find a bit annoying, is the fact that people slater the community of these games as "bad", which does what to help it? Absolutely nothing. Eleanor Rigby. |

Originally posted by azmundai It is kind of crazy... so many seem to think that in order to be a success they must beat WoW... when really they only need to achieve a fraction of WoW's numbers in order to be considered a success... chances are, the WoW phenomena will never happen again... but .... it is kind of amusing.. all these various X game kills WoW kind of thing.. and i enjoy a good laugh as much as anyone |

i think the reason that WOW is slowly deing isnt bc off the game (wow itself is pretty good for a fantasy game) but the community, you cant join raids if u dont have the right equipment and guess where u get that equipment, right the same raid u want to join, and also after the server hack by those chinese goldfarmers wow lost alot off there players |

WoW? Blizzard is desperate. Without their subscribers they won't be able to own a castle and 20 cars. It's all about the money mate, atleast with Blizzard. |

Originally posted by thanoskkk are those the wow fanbois..... i thought wow was almost universally hated here having said that.. arent those games (rift and sw;tor) both types of games that wow players would love to play? its a bit like saying.. League of Legends players are claiming Defence of the Ancients is going to fail.. and Defence of the Ancients fans claiming that League of Legends is going to fail once their game gets going.. oh wait..their the same people... WoW has 11 Million active players, the chances are pretty good, that of the 1 million playing Rift, a significant proportion also play WoW.. same goes for SW;TOR.. all those pre-orders, i'd lay good odds that at least 50 percent of them are from WoW players |

People who say the 'WoW phenom' will never happen again are... speaking out of turn. How do you know it won't happen again? Hell, nobody expected it to happen the first time. It just takes an amazing game to do what Wow has done. We haven't seen any 'amazing games' launch for a while. A lot of games promise to be amazing (WAR and AoC), but when the smoke (and hype) clears after launch... the sobering fact is that they flopped. WoW's needs captured about 60-70% of what I wanted in a game, personally. But really, that's still a failing grade. I played WoW because they had numbers. I could get in and do 'stuff', because there were others that wanted to do 'stuff'. I expected WoW to do more of the little things quicker. Meaning, they really should've been more responsive much, much faster than they were. If SW:TOR can somehow must the ability to hit the large targets and pull of the big things (the pilars that most people 'need' in MMO's) + hit many of the key 'little things', then they will have more than one of the most powerful IP's in their arsenal.. they will have a 'solid' hit on their hands. Does SW:TOR need to be a WoW killer to be a success? No. But every 'successful' game that comes out will help to alter and re-shape what WoW currently is. And, over time, the old WoW will have died.. and the evolution of the game will present 'new WoW'. And by the time we've seen a complete overhaul of WoW... Blizz's next major MMO title will be upon us.

Originally posted by maji This -exactly. WoW has made so much money over the past SEVEN (7) YEARS that whatever they get from it today is just icing on the cake. They are probably laughing on the way to the bank because of the millions of subscribers they still have. If they had a mere 350,000 subs, they would still be raking in money considering the age of this product. So no - they are not desperate. They are just seeing how long they can milk this thing until their next big things come out to eclipse WoW. |
