Maybe its a little early to start thinking about this stuff? But I was just wondering how many Expansions it will take to make a level cap increase its already high as it is, but do you think ANet will give us a level cap increase a few years down the road? I'd also like to know what they mean by expansions? Like just a patch with new dungeons, more PVP zones etc. is an expansion or like a WoW expansion with new zones, races, levels, classes etc. |

Refer to GW1 or do some research, Anet will release full expansions with new zones and content. |

They want to get away from the GW1 system of releasing entire standalone games on a fixed schedule for two reasons. The first is that it adds complexity to new players, and the second is that they felt constrained by the deadline and constantly felt like they needed to leave things out to meet it. (From the part about why GW Utopia was cancelled http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Utopia) My speculation would be that they'd release smaller updates more often, indivdual zones, dungeons, personal story options, that kind of thing. Then also with big, game altering expansions coming less often to give them more time to do develop. We do know there will be new dynamic events added to the game for free after launch to try to keep the world fresh. GW1 never raised the level cap so we really have no precedent for when or even if they'll decide to do that. |

I think the expansions will probably focus on new areas and continuing the story. I mean, we'll only be going up against one of the Elder Dragons at realease, so that gives plenty of room to add things like hunting down the other dragons, which will in turn lead to new areas. So mostly story like the GW1 xpacks. |

Tey will probably add new zones, professions, weapon type and new races. Tengu for a new race and cantha for a new zone please :D oh and canthan character too. And don't forget 2handed axe and katana.

In expansions, they'll likely be adding new areas that come with more dynamic events, and more personal story beyond the original to address each one of the Elder Dragons. I gathered this from comments like "so and so dynamic events planned for initial release" and "Crystal Desert/Cantha/Elona will no be available upon initial release".
Anything related to PvP, including additional content, will more than likely be free updates available to everyone much like in the first Guild Wars.

I dont really want a level cap increase, this is just the old routine to get longer subs from the players. GW2 should be more innovative in these means as well, they dont want us to grinds the quests and dungeons to get to the level cap, leveling curve is already flat(so it is not a curve xD), they want players to get the feeling of accomplishing something on tyria and being helpful and heroic. So that way instead of getting new levels just for bigger damage numbers, higher hp bars and imba skills, they should just add new dungeons that feels better, promotes teamwork, involves mini-game mechanisms using the item-based skill system to accomplish them and lots and lots of more character customisation. i expect an expansion that includes dwarfs leaving their shells and joining the cause. Also they have cantha and elona both with awesome story in their hands to play, Although cantha seems a bit isolated right now. |

GW has never really been about lvls. Yes, they raised the lvl cap, but they've even stated that it's not the main focus of the game. It seems to only really exist for 2 purposes, 1 as a sort of way to allow players to warm up to the game before diving into the heavier content, and 2 as a way of segregating story elements into easier and harder content. As others have stated, expansions will most likely introduce new dungeons, skills, cosmetics / achievements (new armor / weapons / etc.). They may even introduce new classes. While this game does appear to be different from GW1 in a lot of ways, their design philosophy hasn't really changed. We can expect to see a lot of similar design elements in GW2 as existed in GW1, however many look to be heavily evolved / improved in some ways or another. It's also probably that they will do some sort of ramp-up updates to prepare for each expansion. Adding smaller bits of new content / storyline to prepare for the larger updates / expansions, giving them more time to flesh out each one. - That said, I'd suggest trying to step away from the usual vertical progression mentallity. Anet has always been huge on laterally progressive design. Expect less lvling caps, and more customization from each update. |

I hope they don't bother with level increases. They should never had levels to begin with but that argument is in the past. |

I am a strong believer that there will be Non free content patches (DLC) which could be seen as mini expansions... like a new zone with new story parts and a new dungeon. They need some sources of income to pay for hosting their servers. Expansion packs will be comparable to size to the original game, and introduce different parts of the world as they did in the original GW. But they will be expansions and require the base game.
They can easily raise level cap in these big expansions as the old content will be still challenging as you get transfered down when entering those places. But will it be any use to raise it? .... That all depends on their gear system, which to my understanding will be somewhere in the middle of the GW system and more common gear based MMO's. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

The game could be expanded like any other game. Races, weapons, zones, pvp maps, dungeons, armor skins, classes. Playing: GW2 |

^To add to the above which gives a nice list of many options, some things we know:
To give specifics:
Eric Flannum sent us a note to clarify a couple of things about their plans for Guild Wars 2 post-release content:
As above more options and customization and of course we'll know more about the PvP extensions soon, especially as Structured is intended to be e-sportif . |
