Diablo III is a blight to the games industry. It is a demon of greed, emblazoned in the sublte coils of misjudgement. It is evil, and all those who come across it should burn it, and send it back to hell where it belongs. We should fear to speak, or even write it's name, for the devil listens intently, for any which may sway to corruption. I say nay! NAY! Do not let this terror walk within these walls. Do not allow it's taint to corrupt our children flesh. Destroy the beast. Cut off it's sickly head. Drive a stake through it's heart after it's been torn from it's body.
So my vote is no. All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick. |

Why don't you guys just create an RPG portal? You have one for mobile, RTS and FPS, so make a RPG one and change this one around to just be MMO (non-RPG specific).

This is the meat of it. It should be included because it has already been discussed and will continue to be discussed.
Make no mistake what is being tried out in D3 is being test run for Titan. Just like what was tested in D1 and D2 was moved into WoW.
The future is not predetermined. But, I do see Titan being an Item for sale game and D3 is the test run. |

Originally posted by nate1980 Excuse the paraphrasing and the late entry but this is exactly why I voted yes. I realize that it may seem counterproductive but the current tension on issues such as this highlights that MMOs have outgrown the classification we use to separate the genres. It was inevitable that popular game would begin to borrow features across genres. The only solution is to embrace the truth that what we all love are Online Games in whatever form they take. We must begin to evaluate games on their own merits and abandon the atrificial standard that they do and don't measure up to. Then we will be able to appriciate a game honestly and without bias toward an antiquated ideal. There is NO miracle patch. 95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch. Hope is not a stategy. |

is this the quote "elephant in the room" topic what bothers me is why people hate this whole auction house thing in d3. they don't have to buy anthing in real cash if they dont want too. they can play the game for whats it is a action rpg.nobodys putting a gun to your head. and the people like that can buy and sell normal items with normal gold so why care about that one aspect of the game? the ceo also said that players get free item listing per month/week i dont remember so you get a taste of it. i say let them eat cake. some players might offset their wow fees with a unique drop to a gotta have it player. tbh it keeps that back alley awefull website scammers out of the loop. its pure win win...read more before you make decisions. i for one will try to offset my real job and play d3 40 hrs a week and hang out with freinds on weekends lol how win is that |

Im not really sure it qualifies as an mmorpg. But it gets talked about plenty on the forums of this site so you may as well add it. It may not be close enough to be classified as an mmo but then again its not that far off either.
What Im saying is it doesnt really make a difference. Leave it off and people will still talk about it, but it on and people will still talk about it. Besides, its one of the more interesting games on the horizon so I wouldnt be surprised to see it on here. |

Eh... Y'all have already "crossed that line" by adding other games that don't really qualify as MMORPGs either. I'm sure the coverage will bring the site more traffic which will (ostensibly) translate into more advertising value, etc. etc. So, it's an obvious direction for you to want to take the site in. I'd be very, very, very careful to specifically list it as a CORPG, and not a MMORPG. Many people are already confused enough by that as it is; believing that "online" + "multiplayer" automatically = "MMORPG", and then proceed to judge it as such. The reason that's an issue is because people also seem to think in very linear "absolutes" when it comes to game categories, and typically just lump any games with any similar features into the same category. By the same token, people seem to treat very specific terms as "meaning whatever they want it to mean". We've seen myriad examples of that on here (hardcore versus carebear or casual, etc). People can't even agree on what the meaning of "F2P" is and lump GW in with the F2P crowd, even though you have to actually buy the game and all its expansions to play it. Remember when Retro released the original Metroid Prime and people were bent out of shape that it didn't have Deathmatch? Nintendo and Retro could have repeated 'til they were blue in the face (and probably did) that Metroid Prime was a 3D adventure game played in first-person perspective. It was most definitely not a "run and gun, shoot everything that moves" affair like the typical FPS. Still, people couldn't get that through their skulls. They saw "Oh, it's a game played in first-person where you can shoot things. It's a FPS! But wait... It doesn't have deathmatch?! It's not a true FPS!" The same thing is already happening with people retro-actively labeling any game that has an online multiplayer component a "MMORPG", even if you can't have more than, say, 16 people connected to a single server at a time, it's not persistent, etc.
One thing I'll say is rather disappointing about the D3 thing is how the cash shop element seems to have completely eclipsed any discussion about the actual gameplay. Seems so many people are all caught up with "making money by farming good drops!" now. |

I'd say no. But then, I don't really care as long as we don't have TOO many not-classic-MMORPGs in the list and this remains an exception. I would not like to see a general change in the concept of what is a MMO. Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs! Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects, But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation, Amen! |

You added god damn League of Legends and no similar MOBA game like DOTA 2 and the like... Not to mention all the freaking FPS stories posted for marketing your partner sites..
You became hyprocrites long ago, you may as well add it, fits the MMORPG standards much more then some of the games on here, especially ones like the obscure browser based ones you find on the site.. |

What? Since when is Diablo series considered "barely an RPG"? It's one of the most pure RPG games in existence - think about it, role playing games separate themselves from other games by focusing on progression, loot collection, and playing a role - Diablo 1 and 2 do these three things almost exclusively. Just because they have an isometric view, doesn't mean they are less of an RPG. GoW and CoD are both shooters, yet completely different perspectives. Quite honestly, I don't think there is another series (aside from maybe fallouts and TES games) that nail the soul and heart of an RPG better than Diablo. |

Read my comment right above this one - btw dungeon crawler isn't a subgenre, its an aspect of RPG"s.. its like saying black metal isn't metal because its black ... When it comes down to it, Diablo series is one of, if not the most, pure RPG experiences ever made. |

Originally posted by yevgenii I read it, found it to be irrelevant and poorly thought out so skipped it. Sorry, Diablo has always been more akin to Zelda rather than something like FF. Zelda was a quasi RPG and is considered a dungeon crawler rather than an actual RPG. And no technically Dungeon Crawler isn't a sub genre but for those games that don't fully fit into action or rpg and focus mainly on dungeons it is typically the term used. For the past 15 years everyone I've known or talked to about the Diablo series has always reffered to it as a Dungeon Crawler, same as Zelda. This was both online and off lol. I mean sure you can disagree, but it's not like it will change my point of view after 16 years lol. |
