They thought it will outsell Modern Warfare Black ops

On the end they sold like 20 thousand copies while black ops sold millions.

 

Anyway. 1 Million sold seems like realistic number for swtor. And in 3 months 400 000 subscribers.

Eh,  this didn't come from EA.  EA isn't overestimating anything,  if anything EA was blown away by its preorder numbers,  I think for EA this game will exceed expectations.

As for outselling CoD,  EA has been hanging in there,  and BF3 seems like it may just be the big hit they need to finally overtake that franchise.   I always enjoyed the BF games better anyways, no matter the popularity of CoD.

It has great potential. But so did War... and Conan.

Regardless, I went ahead and grabbed up a CE pre-order just in case!

It's just the better franchise no question about it. Hell what made COD MP popular was that they ripped off BF2's progression system. Sorry off topic but I couldn't resist :).

I believe it. Didn't WAR and AoC sell around 700K a piece their first month?

People are chomping at the bit for a game they can play longer than a month, and Star Wars has much more appeal than those two games.

They will certainly have my sub. I don't think 3 million would be shock given the ip. Looks to be a very polished product from what I've seen so far.

They said they'd be doing a lot of beta tests in September and I hope that means they'll be inviting a lot of players.  Not just because I want in but to stress test the servers.  Imagine opening day and 3 million people trying to download/log in.

There was a recent quote I read somewhere on this site, taken from an article where one of the founders said they were going to basically hold back copies at launch, to make sure the launch was succesful.  So even if these analysts are right and they sell 3 million in the first year, that may mean only 500k or something at launch, with more and more dribbled out to stores throughout the year.

Actually pretty smart if you think about it, since so many MMO's have horrible login queues in the early weeks.  It also ensures there are always "new players" being pumped into low end zones, as opposed to everybody hitting max level in the first couple of months and the n00b areas turning into ghost towns.

This is exactly why I pre-ordered.  I don't want to show up at BestBuy on launch day and find out they aren't going to have any in stock for months, like when I wanted to buy an iPhone 4!

I agree. I have two copies. One for me and one for my son. Excited for this game.

I plan to buy it.  I'm thinking the few remaining SWG players will probably try it.  Especially since they won't have SWG any longer.  I'm hoping it turns out to be a great game.

3 million, good for them, but does it really matter if you can only group with 3 others pve, or what is it 8v8 in pvp? Any word on larger groups pvp, or pve? Will there be a point to joining a guild? I'm not knocking this game, as I would enjoy the story lines, but I'm still on the fence.

Sigh, more "analysts" jumping onto something, honestly we've had enough of that throughout TOR's lifespan and in the economy in general.

We'll see how much it sells when the time comes, right now these are just guesses.

actually 16 other pve and they are stil calculating pvp numbers but are also looking at 16 people for pvp.   They also stated there will be some form world pvp.

Its a financial group i think its pretty interesting to see how people outside the gaming bubble see this project.  Also I will beleive more what they have to say rather then otehr silly stuff you see on the internet, like the hype meter on this site.

I have pre-ordered and i'm so freakin' excited to play it.

I see so many negative threads regarding the game but screw those i know bioware isn't going to dissapoint us. They haven't yet anyways.

If you're a Bioware RPG fan you'll love this game. If you're an MMORPG fan, I doubt you'll activate your sub after the free month.

I'm sure they'll do great with sales but I have huge doubts on the retentive strength of this title.

I wouldn't be sursprised if they go F2P within a year.

I pre-ordered the special editon. So, they have my money.

I agree that it will sell very well, and get a lot of subscribers. I imagine that as time goes on the sales and subscription numbers will improve.
