So the OP has never, ever bought a game without having played it first? I highly doubt that. The thread seems like a weak troll attempt. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

To OP: I can understand you want to see and play the game first before buying. If you manage it though it might be a bit late now, they are coming to some of the game shows, namely PaX Prime (thats in the west, washington state, seattle) or gamescon (think this is somewhere in europe), if you manage to make it to one of these shows they will have SW;TOR playable so you can get a hands-on of it. Granted things are still in flux till release (nature of a beta) but i think you can get the general jist of the game..bugs excluded As for the good luck, thanks, i to hope it will be good. hard to tell until i get more then 15 mins on it. But i bought my purchase based on info, a tiny shred of game time, more then i get for most games i buy but i generally am good at picking games i like for some reason, rarely disappointed *shakes head* anyway again thanks for the good luck and hope you find a game you like to. Maybe it will be SW:TOR or many of the other MMOs to come out in the next year.
Edit added to provide link for events. Here is the link of the events they will be at: PaX Prime is a bit too late to start trying to get tickets to it. Unless you have an alternate way of getting one because i think it may be sold out already. But some of the other events might still have tickets |

I have played Asheron's Call from release date to 2005.. it was best 7 year of my mmo life... nothing is good since 2005.. thats why I dont pre-order any games anymore since aion's disappointment.
As for your edited post. I live too far from California... cant afford the trip to go california or germany..or wherever. Otherwise I would defintely go. its matter of location. |

As for your car analogy, sure it's great to test drive a car, but normally it's only for a very short duration, never really long enough to find out if it's going to be the right car for you, you still have to invest alot of trust when buying the car. However it's nice to have free trials, though these days they get so abused by gold sellers that I can understand why some companies do not like offering them, it creates it's own set of problems. |

You guys got baited... The OP is just negative and wanted some attention. You could say "I played it at a convention" he would reply "Controlled atmosphere not a complete product" "I saw videos" "Videos aren't playing" "I researched every aspect of the game" "Research isn't personally playing to end game to decide if you truly like the game"
It simply doesn't matter what you say like I for instance spent 50 bucks on a ticket to watch the MLB worst Houston Astros, I didn't know who would win or what would happen, it could have been a boring game where nothing happens and the final score is 1-0 but I still paid hoping to enjoy something exciting. At least when you purchase MMO's you get 30 days of entertainment with it. |

But really... Im just saying good luck to u people that hope game works out good for u because i know some people will not be happy with any game that they pre-ordered. Good or bad... just a good luck. Isnt this too hard to comprehend? There is nothing to fight over to win the best comment of the thread. |

I don't think he will, not all that long anyhow. I suspect in fact we will ee a very similar pattern as we saw with Rift, but only more so- heavy initial take up with a haemorrhage of players at the 2-3 month mark. I would expect we will see a trial program by months 4 or 5. At least we will if they are not arrogant or stupid. |

Originally posted by Kain_Dale Thank you! I pre-order tonnes of games. Fifa, COD, Halo, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, NFL, NHL, NBA2K etc so don't see a problem. ^_^ Wonder why there seems to be more haters on the internet? Read this by an actual marketing guy to find out why. |

Originally posted by vesavius This isn't Rift. SWTOR has sold over 200,000 pre-orders and they haven't even announced a release date. They aren't going to have a trial program because they aren't going to need it. I would be surprised if they have a free trial within the first year of release. |

Pre-ordering a game is no riskier than buying it on release, so the good luck wish is kinda out of place. I didnt pre-order the game but I will still buy it. I played all the mmos that came out since UO and I really liked 3 of em. UO, EQ and DAoC. But even then I never regret buying a game. What is 60$ of entertainement supposed to be these days ? To me if you play the game for a month it was totally worth it. I buy books for 30$ and sometimes they turn out bad, sometimes I go to a restaurent and pay 100$ just to get out and be hungry still.
Life is all about taking risk, you never know when you will find a gem. But I guess if you are struggling between feeding your kids and buying games the choice is easy ... |

No, it isnt Rift, I didnt say it was, but it sits squarely in the same bracket and shares much in philiosophy and core design. The preorders come almost wholly from people who don't know what they are even buying, thanks to EA selling their product with the NDA still up and denying folks an informed choice, and are pretty irrellevant to this point. They have nothing to do with retention. |

Originally posted by vesavius I disagree. I believe the preorders come almost wholly from people who know exactly what they are buying. The kind of people who have been following every press release from Bioware since they announced SWTOR. It's not like Bioware has been silent on their game. There is a ton of information and videos out available on the game. An unprecedented amount for AAA subscription based MMO. You also mention an NDA stll being up. This is fairly standard for a AAA MMO. I can't think of very many that dropped the NDA before launch. Last but not least Rift is nothing like a Bioware game.

WISE WORDS....why we all do this as well as myself is a mystery. To put trust in an industry that disapoints more than it pleases us. However, I confess...we all get very excited over pc games and the pre-order bonus makes it even harder to avoid. Also, when it comes to an IP you love, in my case Warhammer 40K, its almost impossible to not pre-order and wait until a review or demo comes out. Thus, to each his own...but the OP makes a very very valid case...we never learn. In the case of SWTOR, because its Bioware who had a very good track record up until DAII, there is even more trust. However, there are many concerns with SWTOR that can only be addressed by playing the game and that means without a trial or review for the pre-order folks. OP you have no idea what you want... Here are two posts you made, back to back no less, on the front page:
A.) So... your saying We should buy something blindly that we never used or played with it before? Doesn't make sense at all.... Its like your buying a car without test-drive... found out after u drove it home that u dont like it? lol
B.) your correct... i havent found a "home" yet.. I'm hoping for Diablo 3 though. I been playing many different random games... havent found the spark yet.
So you will not play an MMO without trying it out on a free trial first, but you will buy a single player co-op game without trying it first? Your second post (B) makes everything in your first post (A) completly irrelevant, because you are doing in post (B) what you said you would not do in post (A).
