FF XI was my favorite mmo by far... I never tryed XIV because of all the crazyness and bad rep, but I hear its slowly getting better.  I was wondering if you would say its worth playing for someone who likes this type of MMO and hey, its only 15 bucks.

By all means, buy it from GameStop.

My comment was specifically addressed to the poster above, who wanted to be able to download the client instead of buying a retail box from a brick and mortar store.

Other than FFXI, and possibly more than the current version of FFXI, there is nothing closer to FFXI on the currentmmo market... so yes.

It is much more appealing to most XI vets now (that I know at least) than it was at launch too.

Other then carrying the name Final Fantasy, being made by same company, and using same races.  FFXIV is nothing like FFXI. Please don't associate a bad game (FFXIV) with a good game (FFXI).

You clearly haven't played it recently, and/or are a liar.  95% of my server are FFXI veterans.

I don't know a single XI player who is interested in a game like SWTOR.

ive played for 5 years and i know about 5 other people (real life friends and my brother) who jumped onto this game on day 1. Today not 1 of us plays....so yah, it sucks and its nothing like FFXI. Its actually so much NOT like FFXI the devs admited they purpously made it to be nothing like FFXI and thats what got them in trouble.

anyways the game is slowly getting better...very slowly (they must have a tiny team fixing the game) but i womt be worth your time for at least another year. Honestly dont even bother with it until they send out the PS3 version

• Party based leveling incentives.  XI and XIV are the only two AAA mmo's currently on the market to focus on this, and it was one of if not the most defining aspect of XI over other MMO's today.
• Battleregimen system like skill chain is a cooperative group mechanic to increase damage/inflict status effects (not found in most MMO's)
• One character, unlimited class system
• Combat is more similiar to FFXI's than any other MMO (after 1.18)
• Ability to share abilities across classes you have leveled
• Similiar art style

SWTOR is the opposite in most of these regards, as are many other newer MMO's.

While you and your friends quiting after launch is an awesome story that I'm sure is really informative to anyone considering playing this game.  Because I'm sure no one has heard that people were dissapointed by its launch before.

Explain to me what that has to do with this game right now being like XI tor not?  I explained how the game is like XI, you have not explained how it is not like XI.  Because it lacks XI's expansions upon expansions worth of content?  I'll give you that, but that still makes it the closest MMO you will get to FFXI pre-abysea these days (or really pre-CoP) that isn't FFXI itself. 

XIV is similiar to XI in many ways (as I outlined), and it is becoming more similar in many ways with the upcoming patches with XP chains, Assault/whatever style distractions like XI, etc.

1) the party bases leveling insentives is actually VERY minimal, in fact 1.18 made one of the more effective ways of leveling (leve linking) obsolite...with nothing to replace it.

2) Battle regiments is a disastrous version of skill chain which few people use. Games like EQ2 have something similar, but not a piss poorly done.

3) Thats something you should expect, they would be bonkers NOT to do something like that again.

4) combat after 1.18 is now like any MMO...auto attack and click on action bar abilitys...so its like FFXI, but its like most everything else too.

5) Sharing abilitys is part of the class system, so your pretty much making the same point again.

6) the art style to me is pretty different, in fact i dont like it all too much, everything looks plasticy liek they were trying to hard to be "realistic".

DO they have similar things? Of course, they are in the same franchise made by the same people, but to me they are not all that much the same. Liek i said, the new dev admitted that the old team on purpouse tried being NOT like FFXI and he felt that it was a huge mistake.

Id actually prefer if this game was basically FFXI-2, but its not. I know plenty of FFXI players that plain old dont like the game and want it to be more like FFXI, but its not going to be, especially when the new dev has never played FFXI.

for the OP, there's an unofficial "ffxi vets" server in 14, i believe selbina.

at first the game was indeed poop, but it has indeed gotten much much better.
