In an interview conducted at this year's ChinaJoy convention, Red 5 Studios CEO Mark Kern has confirmed that their upcoming free-to-play MMO shooter, Firefall, will be launching this December.

Correction. They asked me when the game was launching, and I said December. For some reason, they interpreted that as Beta.

i havent done much research on this game..pc only? this would be great if it was on console too..seems alot like borderlands but even better!

I didn't expect this game to be out so quickly....  really looking forward to it.

It may be a good idea to change the title.

Also, with SWToR coming byt this date too Im guessing is a bad time to launch, even If im interested on it too.

I think that SWTOR will have been out for a while before Firefall (pure conjecture), but even so, the games are so dissimilar that FF shouldn't have too much to worry about.  GW2 might be a bigger problem because they have a similar payment model and are both a little more action-oriented then SWTOR.  Actually, Firefall is a lot more action-oriented.  But again, they just aren't that close.

Firefall will be able to eke out a solid existence if it's a good game, even if it's release is being bookended by two heavyweights.  I've still got it around the top of my play list and it's a short list.

SWTOR is an MMORPG themepark style game that is heavily quest/story driven and focuses almost completely on pve with a touch of pvp for the sake of just having it be ingame.

Firefall is an MMO Shooter game that is heavily focused on pvp with a balance of pve and open world events.

Apart from being both sci-fi these games are hitting different ends of the MMO community and their release dates being close will have nearly zero effect on the other.

Along with GW2, Firefall is the other future mmo(rpg) I'm looking out for atm.

I think for a sci-fi + guns + "space"/mixing it up with gravity and "The only good bug is a dead bug!" enemy Firefall has some excellent features that are a solid fit, here.

Seems both Firefall and SWTOR will reach some different audiences but there's a little overlap too in launch dates (?) and in sci-fi lasers etc.

as much as i want to like it, im sure its going to disapoint me.

im so expecting this game to be like tribes and im sure this wont happen since i havnt seen a single vehicle on the PVP maps yet.

so pleeaasseeee ... suprise me and gimmge some big open world PVP with vehicles and none of these pvp maps

this game will be awesome, check the lore ( written by orson scott card ) check the gameplay - skillbased, check the pay model : free to play, only pay for enhancing ur chars looks, AWESOME!

My thoughts too, though I'm surprised it's not more hyped/excitement? What's the catch with this one? Cr@p community? Everything I've seen from the vids looks great with a TF2-esque arena battle as well as some faction-"open" world battles for resource points...

thing is a lot of people will be playing the game, but it is not the time for hype right now, this game will be one of the big ones, it will be one of those games you remember, one of those games you will be playing till ur eyeballs drop, one of the games you will be sry for playing in the morning before going to work :))

I can't wait for this game! One of the features I like is constant boss raids in town where people unite to defeat them to get control over the territory.
