I was wondering if I can utilize the full content of EVE, including owning corporations, without being part of PVP? The griefers tend to keep me away from PVP>

Even though you can try to avoid pvp you can always be war deced if you are in a player corp. So yeah, even if you live in empire you will probably have to face pvp one time or another.

Short answer: no.

As soon as a corp is formed war can be declaired and pvp comes to high sec.

When the war ends another corp will jump in and declare war. etc.

Eve is the best space game currently out. Unfortunately CCP believes that pvp is the be all and end all of gaming.

Yes you can play EvE without ever engaging in PvP.

You can stay in the NPC-corp so you can't be wardecced and you can allways stay out of low-sec and 0.0 where there's no CONCORD to protect you. To be safe in high-sec you shouldn't carry alot of value around in a flimsy ship and you shouldn't brag about your totally uber-pimped mission-running-ship.

An own corporation is aswell possible without being wardecced aslong as you keep a low profile, stay in high-sec and happily grind away LvL 4 missions, do some crafting or trading if interested and EvE is basically 100% safe and all about PvE. Don't expect your corp to grow big tho.

Peace (noun): A period of cheating between two wars.

Something most people forget: Even markets and mining are PVP. You compete against other players for minerals to produce with and for buyers to sell to. PVP extends far beyond shooting each other with guns in this game.

That said, most griefer corps want the biggest bang for their wardec buck, so they generally ignore the smallest indy corps.

Now with 57.3% more flames!

The only luck I had today was to have you as my opponent.

7/31/11 1:35:25 PM#6

you can. even strong pvp alliances NEED a lot of people to build their stuff so they can blow it up.

the more hardcore pvp the alliance the more corps they need to build their ships. because the more ships they lose.

pve/industry/trading is a very big thing in eve. critical to pvp. absolutely critical. cant pvp without it. someone has to make the toys for the pvp'ers to play with.

edit: being wardeck'ed doesnt mean you have to pvp. keep eyes on local and dock up when the red/orange dots show up.

Yes, games that I play to pass the time should be time-consuming. That's why I play them.

There is a lot of griefing in eve, the one thing that you need to accept when you play eve online is that you can lose what you fly.

When it happens just remind yourself that it's just a game and has no reflection on your real life.  You were just not as _______ as the other player(s); most probably "prepared/fitted for PvP/evasion" would fill in that blank.

All i can say is.. i have played eve online for about (let me count) six years... i have zero kill....

i am still wealthy and rich, with a fleet of nice ships

and 3 accounts running by themselves (plexwise)

So .  well of course you can play eve without participating in PVP (combat wise)

SHort answer: No

Long answer: Yes you can achieve things in EVE and avoid pvp, trading, becoming an indy, PVE'ing. However there is NEVER a guarantee someone will not attack you. Being in high sec reduces the odds but it isn't pvp-free.

So you don't need to engage in PVP but PVP will come to you, eventually.

Well that is kind of a contradiction. Full content includeds PvP.  You can play and do a lot if it appeals to you, but full content incuded 0.0 and it can be hard to find a serious corp/alliance that won't want you to contibute/participate in pvp to some extant.

You can avoid spaceship v spaceship combat PVP most of the time if you are good at playing the game.

However, as others have mentioned, there is very competitive market PVP and so forth. Basically, PVP can be found in every faucet of the game. If you are only worried about spaceship combat PVP though, then yes, you can avoid it for the most part, and you should not let the rare space combat PVP deter you from playing Eve if that is the only thing that is stopping you, since getting ganked once a month or less won't be much of an issue so long as you don't do anything stupid.

8/01/11 12:46:01 AM#13

full content of the game? no you cant

anything low sec or 0.0 is open pvp. basically if you go there you can and will get shot. (you dont have to return fire though)

even in high sec it is possible to get shot as well again you dont have to fight but i was always told throughout my 3 years of EvE online

"YOU WILL DIE"

this is true no matter what you do pvp is almost unavoidable (unless you refuse to press the undock button)

EVE has PVP focused content so no, you cannot experience everything in the game without PVP. Apart from PVP focused content, certain production options and resources will be unavailable to you or they won't be as efficient but you can purchase everything you need from the robust market so it isn't locked out from you completely.

There are some limitations and mechanics that needs to be clarified. EVE is Free-For-All PVP world but there are automatic mechanics in place that retaliate when specific rules are broken.

EVE has 3 areas with different rule sets:

1) Empire space, high security

This is the most protected, and most populated, area of the game. Basically, engaging another player without consent triggers CONCORD, universal police, to retaliate against aggressor resulting in ship destruction. Trying to avoid the retaliation is bannable offense!

2) Empire space, low security

While being still part of the empire, it is out of CONCORD's reach and protection is left up to NPC corporations which protect infrastructure of the area - jump gates and stations. The force of the retaliation is way weaker and represents threat to smaller and insufficiently tanked ships only.

3) No security space, null sec

There are no restrictions whatsoever.

Empire space, is also limited by ship and technology use. Some specific modules and weapons won't even run in empire space which means that the largest ships in EVE cannot enter, or even be manufactured in high security and in lesser extent low security empire space.

You can make a picture from above. Most of the content is accessible in protected areas because EVE is a place of different play styles and if you wish to, despite no guarantee though, you can avoid PVP effectively and never ever engage or be engaged in one.

The important, or even fun part one would say, is that it is not guaranteed, you have to make your way to avoid PVP.

Some parts of the game will stay locked out from you though but if you are not interested in PVP, I guess it does not matter :)

Put simply, no. There's a lot you can do to minimise or avoid your exposure to PvP, but it can happen to you at any time.

There is no "safe space" in EVE. There is only hi-sec, which is generally safer, but people aggressing you are punished by CONCORD after the fact.

The game is structured around competitive interaction, but not all kinds of PvP involve direct violence: Some players literally never leave the station; they play the market, flip contracts, build stuff and so forth, but they're engaged in "market PvP", which can be even more intense and destructive than the normal spaceships kind.

You can do your best to not to, but if someone is going to 'kill' you, they will do so.

Even in newbie areas someone can. There are consequences though since newbie ganking is one of the few rules that EVE will enforce in a perma ban. But that's after the fact.

You can always just play the market in Jita, I know a few that do and some of the stuff they do just boggles the mind.

Wonder why there seems to be more haters on the internet?

Read this by an actual marketing guy to find out why.

When you say "PvP", I'm going to assume you haven't played EVE before and so believe the only form of PvP is actual combat? If so, yes. If you know what you're doing you can avoid PvP even in lowsec.

But you have to remember if you're selling bulk on the market there's going to be other people competing with you to do the same, to put you out of business, make you lose money so you stop selling the same shit they sell.

If you're mining you'll be competing for decant mining spots.

I'd say join an industrial CORP who produce for a semi-small alliance. Yes, you will have some war'decs, but this alliance will offer protection and a degree of safety. If you're mining in lowsec for example, as long as you have a pre-thought escape route and a decant fleet commander, 95% of the time if danger approaches you'll leave in one peice.

In EVE, PvP simply means competing with another player. This does not always come in the form of shooting at someone elses internet spaceship, this is just one of the forms.

Competition is everywhere.

And remember this. CONCORD are not there to protect the weak. They're there to punish the aggressor.
