Nope ..i think that graph it accurate ..no need to change it ! It shows the growth of EVE ... My question is related to the development from Feb 2011 ... The falloff and decline in PCU is different because the retention rate is much lower after INCARNA. Some poeple are really fanatical of there games and chose not to see the trend in a negative light, which i totaly understand. But to simply say there is no decline after Feb 2011 is ridonqulos! |

Originally posted by Gdemami the only FPS your going to find associated with Eve is DUST 514... there has never been any intention to have a FPS within Eve itself.. tbh.. i don't really know what the big deal is with the walking in stations, at the moment it doesnt really have any function (i don't even bother loading the station environment as it doesnt really do anything yet) i do hope though, that at some point, the whole walking in stations thing, will have some kind of point.. as DUST 514 for me is a lost cause - i have zero intention of ever buying a ps3.. i don't have an xbox 360 either.. but i would have considered getting one of those at least.. somehow though.. i really don't see the CCP devs as being slackers, their among the most active and involved of any game i've played.. and yes i am biaised towards Eve.. but.. doesnt make it any less true.. have to remember that the whole walking in stations thing was done because so many of the players wanted it to happen sooner than later.. and although im not really all that happy about this 'shop' thing for cosmetic items.. it doesnt affect my gameplay in any way.. the only people it affects are those who must have some daft overpriced epeen status symbol.. but im not happy that they have created a new 'currency' that can only be purchased with plex.. it was imo a bad move, and one that isnt really resolved yet.. not everything they do is great..but Eve is still my favourite game.. and i still see myself playing for years to come.. fingers crossed CCP doesnt do anything to make me change my mind on that one. |

150 men team is an estimate on what a professional studio focused on FPS games(ie. such as DICE - they actually have around 250 employees). So yeah, it makes sense that CCP should be able to do it in 2 weeks with just 3rd of the staff, no experience in field, no own technology, needing finding a way to make it work with existing game and all that for astronomical development costs that might not really pay off...
Lack of reading comprehension. Answered above. |

Well the expansion planned for the end of this year is a "spaceships" expansion, with CCP promising to address supercaps, ship balance and sovereignty. I'm not overly optimistic, but it is an opportunity for them to plug a number of what Mittens so eloquently terms "sucking chest wounds" in the game. If there was ever a time for CCP to actually live up to some of their promises for once, this is it. If they fail it, then there will have been a 3 year interval since their last genuinely successful expansion (Apocrypha). Give me liberty or give me lasers |

This is the formula that allowed the game to grow and become successful in a WOW dominated World. Year after year, players could see the game changes they wanted and needed. Now, as others have said, they are trying to make a game that fits CCPs needs, and solves their problems.
Is the current formula capable of going from 45k to 90k (concurrent users), the way the way the old formula went from 15k to 45k?

The core player base of eve... those with the many many accounts are the PvP Players. CCP Are basically going through a phase of spending almost all the resources gained from PvP Players to develop solo PvE Content.
Which is fine, Eve does need improvments in that area.. but sadly, its at the sacrifice of the PvP mechanics. Basically there have been a lot of desparatly needed changes to 0.0 and pvp which CCP have specifically stated they are leaving alone until Incarna is done.
So the bleeding of players is coming from the pvpers, I'm sure they will be back, but some players will look at other games like Perpetuum either as protest or as a viable permenant alternative.
Im sure that the player base CCP will lose some from that hardcore pvp base but will gain in the pve playing carebear player basae. |

Originally posted by Malcanis I'm hoping they can release something that can interest me again, but right now I'm starting to believe that they are looking more to the future than the past. I think the larger portion of their development resources are being devoted to their new titles, Dust 514/WOD and EVE is more and more put on maintenance mode. Just my opinion of course...... There are more resources allocated to EVE Online than ever, it would be foolish to think otherwise. The problem is elsewhere and you can't really blame CCP for it.

Change the game from "Capitals Online" back to "EvE Online" pretty please. Cold War was the best state of the game regarding territorial warfare as there wasn't all this crap like titans, motherships, carriers, jumpfreighters, jumpbridges, etc... Next on the list, revamp of ressources. Take away all NPC-loot including drone-alloys. Give them drones bounty to make them worthwile. The NPCs should only drop salvage-materials and then faction and officer-loot very rarely like it's allready done today. Introduce T3-frigates and battleships and shift the real profitable PvE even more towards wormholes, where teamplay is required. Release Dust514 and ASAP and make PI into a battlefield, where we can capture or destroy enemy infrastructures. Most things will never happen unfortunately so I'll keep playing EvE Online semi-AFK. Haven't done much during the last year but to train skills on my combat-character actually as I can't be bothered anymore to actively take part in alliance-warfare. I'm mostly logging in with my industrial alt on a second rig to run production- and research-jobs for the ally, while playing something else. |

What that graph tells me, is that incarna was a huge fail. Like Malcanis said earlier, EVE has seen steady growth every year, but it has since stagnated and quit growing. What should have been a hyped up expansion that we've waited for, for years, was eclipsed by CCPs new direction with eve with RMT and the leaked internal documents. Cant think of a more botched expansion (i'd say NGE but that was a patch). Since the whole incarna/rmt fiasco ive lost all motivation to just log in. Completely lost interest in the game. |

Originally posted by tvalentine I've had no issues with the expansion. I think it's a great long-term addition to the game. The communicaton wasn't the greatest at first, but they've done a solid job in picking up the pieces of nerd rage since then.
Good luck with your next game, tval. Can you do me a favor, though? Log in one more time and contract all your stuff to me. I need all the help I can get, and I'll be sure to name my next ship after you to continue your legacy. Originally posted by Boardwalker My post was more of a look at the community in general and how well the expansion did in bringing back/new customers into the game. I dont have a problem with the expansion itself (minus rmt), but i dont enjoy it either. It feels like a complete waste of data on my computer and the data in the graph shows that not even WiS, the feature that has been promised for a long time, could increase the PCU. Due largely in part to the scandal that went on right at release. EDIT: oh, and i have 600mil in isk atm, if you send me your isk ill double it and send it back. If you're really interested in my stuff and isk. |

Originally posted by tvalentine I guess we just feel differently then. I don't mind the NEX store. Other, successful games do have similar offerings, and I think it's fine as long as non-vanity items are not introduced. CCP has said that their game model doesn't fit well with "gold ammo", so thus they have no plans for doing that. To me, that's good news, and might help the game be financially viable for years to come. They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair. |

Originally posted by GnatBug Too bad, Gnat. I'm logged in right now with 44K other people having a blast.
