SOMETHING HAUNTS THIS GAME

I've played this game 'till level 23 now and let me tell you something. It's the best free to play MMORPG out there. Don't believe me? Try it yourself!

Excellent graphics, gameplay, sounds, interface, community, PvP, Dungeons, Mounts, Areas and it's simply AMAZING!

Normally, in most free to play MMOs, it all goes well untill you reach a certain level. I haven't spent a single penny on this game. Just time!

True, they may have made some mistakes in the past but now it's brilliant. So please stop talking about something that happened, what, two or three years ago when they where still beta testing the game out and accually PLAY THE GAME!

Trolls haunt this game. Trolls with no life...

PS: I was, myself, reluctant to play this game with all the negative propaganda out there. But then I played it...

It didn't happen 2 or 3 years ago.

The main problem is, the publisher has ZERO control over the game, none, nada.

When a patch comes out in the EU version, even if it is bad and gets  reverted/changed, it comes to the U.S version, they can do nothing to change this at all.

Having had discussions with multiple "gm's" from gpot, even with them coming into our vent at the time and talking to us, it was very clear that this would happen again and again.

If you hadn't played the game in its beta, which btw, was an extremely long beta, in which they had the cash shop up even during it, then yeah, you might be able to see this as a good game, but if you know the details about this game, including the dev - pub relationship.. you would know to steer clear of it.

I played Allods for quite a while. Was decent. What sucked me in was the image of the Empire Paladin in that epic red armor suit with the massive two-handed sword and I thought, that is the character I want.... until I found out via the cash shop you can simply purchase that outfit for any class. So there were healers walking around looking like paladin, mages walking around looking like paladins, psyonisists.... yup. I was done.

You were done because there are costumes available through the cash shop and the auction house? Totally not affecting gameplay cosmetic items turned you off from this game? The Reaver set is expensive because demand is a lot higher than the supply, so if you want to actually wear a set like that you'll need to level up some or try your luck in the cash shop, which I would not recommend.

If cosmetic items being in the game is the reason for no longer playing then it sounds more like an excuse than a reason. You should be glad you can wear the costume regardless of whether the better end game gear looks as good and matches perfectly. Would that set look as awesome without the helmet or shoulders or boots or whatever?

It's hard to believe you'd rather have a whole set sitting in your inventory just to look good when you come to town.

The big hit was in early July last year, I don't think I'll ever forget that, it had been in beta since the end of 2009. I gave the Gipat patch a couple of weeks, mostly just logging in to chat and come to terms how the Gipat patch wrecked the player base, but quit in August since they wouldn't be rolling back to pre-Gipat ever. What happens in Russia eventually happens in EU and NA.

Mail.ru pretty much says what goes, Gala-net could only change prices in the cash shop. It's the Russian version that's several patches ahead, the EU and NA (US) version are pretty much on the same patch give or take a day or two. We're lead to believe that several things from the Russian version never made it to NA. I'll have to take their word for that.

I don't know what GM's came on your vent, but two of them (Chomp and Sadie) left the company shortly after a massive outcry on forums against their blattant lying about "THE" patch. I'd be surprised if you really knew the whole truth about the dev - pub relationship and if it's really a reason to steer clear of the game. But I can say that the Russian version is going pretty strong at the moment (several patches ahead of NA and EU) and that the current version of the game has only improved since Gipat. I started playing again 3 months after quitting. First just logging in, after not finding a decent f2p alternative for AO, to check out the scenery, then getting to the new cap and joining a good guild to raid with.

Some people refuse to come back to the game on principle, even if it hurts themselves. I can't really blame Gala-net for doing what Mail.ru forced them to do. I can blame them for being too greedy, but what other f2p company out there isn't out to make a profit?

Ah chomp and sadie, wasn't either of those that i was referring to, but had discussions with those too.

The gm we spoke to on vent, went into great detail of the relationship between the dev-pubs.. or should i say the lack of relationships. The publisher had great intentions for the game and they honestly tried, but their hands were completely tied.

They would send off lists of concerns/changes that would be fitting for the NA populace and mal.ru would just ignore them, this coming from the individual that was in charge of contacting the dev at the time, i have no idea if they are still working there or not, they were extremely frustrated at the time.

The patch cycle may be good at the moment, but i can't bring myself to play a game where simply over-night, it can all change for the worse and there is nothing the pub can do about it at all.

I don't blame them for making a profit and they had some really great ideas for making a profit that would of worked in the NA market, but mail.ru were simply not interested, it is a damn shame.

My entire guild quit, some faster then others, but we were the biggest league guild at the time, around 14+ ships, myself with 2, upgraded also. The astral was absolutely fantastic, it just really is a shame.

I know how that feels. Being in (one of) the best guild(s), seeing that all fall apart. Devastated playerbase over one majorly sucky patch. If they could have waited with that patch until 1 or 2 more patches were ready for deployment. Jumping over the void named Gipat would have kept this game at the top. It's really good quite good now, probably even better than Pre-Gipat (maybe not better than pre-FoD-patch even if that is debatable).

Coming back is hard though, you'll only be level 40, lots of 46's and even some 47's out there. Your top gear from then will get you to the next areas, but that's it, eventually you'll vendor it all. It'll take time, and coming from where you were, that might be somewhat painful. I know it took me time to get over it and then cap was only 42.

I'm interested to know what you played after you all quit, did you go to Rift, FW or Aika or something? I found nothing out there that really struck my fancy. Sticking with it at least until GW2 comes out (*crossing fingers*).

No excuse, a playstyle and a preference. I enjoy playing a role and looking that role. When anyone and thier mother can have the exact same look for no work and just a little money then it is a deal breaker for me. Imagine if all the class based epic armor sets in WoW could be purchased as a look only for real money. That game would explode because a lot of work and time goes into attaining those sets go so you can look bad ass. When a level 5 is walking around looking just as cool as your level 85 warrior because he dropped some of Mommy's cash on a website, it tends to bother some.

We tried FW, was ehh, ok.

We all jumped on Rift when it came out, it was great, for 6 or so months, then it started to go in a direction we didn't like, they made the game much too easy, our subs are just about to run out there, though don't really play that much now.

Some of us play LoL, great game, but not a traditional MMO, some play Global Agenda, some play Black Prophecy, most are interested in GW2 or Tera, not so much SWTOR.

I tried this about a year ago.  I liked the original setting and it seemed more creative than other mmos.  I thought is was great for a ftp.

I got my first character to about level 20 when they added a new patch.  The new feature that made me quit was if you died and you had blue or better equiptment the stats would reverse on it permanently unless you bought something from the cash store to prevent this.

I had one blue item, my chest piece I think, and I died, then sure enough it had -10 strength or something like that.  I looked for a way to reverse this for about 20 minutes, realized I needed to give gpotato money  then unistalled.

The thing you need to buy is free, well sort of. The thing you should have gotten were holy charms which prevent gear curse upon death. Those are free.

Once your gear is cursed, you need an scroll of purification (uncurse scroll) that is auction house or cash shop. I know it sucks to get your blue gear cursed whether you're mid or high level. At that level you're probably better of buying a green chestpiece until you get a higher level blue one and remember you can get charms for free from the cash shop.

I played on an alt for a while during the gipat patch (when charms weren't free yet, but the GM's sent a limited amount out for free), and I almost dared the game to curse one of my blues upon death because then I'd probably have deleted everything on my account. Those early Gipat days were quite the rollercoaster. It never did curse an item, the odds of that happening at mid level are probably really quite low, but of course it can happen. Looks like you pulled the short straw there.
