Most open beta are just to get players hooked onto the game pre launch imo
Maybe because this game has a story line they didnt want to risk losing sales ( would be like if you watched a movie before it was released then got offered to buy the movie ) |

That's a good point. Though, are they doing an early access? I didn't see that mentioned either, and that's something most games give to pre-orders as a perk. |

Not spoiling the story is one good reason. Another would be that they have more than enough people signed up to BETA test it and think that people just looking for a free ride aren't worth the effort. Sounds like a sound reason to me. NGE killed SWG. Get over it like the rest of us did in 2005. |

Open beta would be a bad idea but beta access for pre-orders would have made sense. |

I know working my way through the story is what I'm looking forward to.
If you check the official site, yes they are offering early access to pre-order customers. |

Im gonna go with story spoilers, and when is the last time a real open beta was offered? its always limited by codes and whatnot, they are just easier to get in some games than others.
If i did happen to get into beta, id be pressed to choose a class I had no interest in to save myself from spoilers. |

Why would they give something away for free that they're already confident they can sell plenty of?
Don't get me wrong - I agree that most open beta's are probably to build hype. But it doesn't seem like they really need any more hype LOL. They sold out of the CE on origin.com within hours... it's already #1 on the video game chart at Amazon, and it's just a PRE-order... yeah they don't need more hype. |

Well, they have it covered then. Pre-order... why not? |

The most logical reason I have is also the most common sense reason.. SW:TOR will sell millions of copies.. The pre order will allow you to gain early access to the game.. This will unofficially be "open beta" for the game.. Why should Bioware open a dozen new servers just to allow a bunch of kids to sample a game they aren't sure they're even going to buy when there will be millions of people who will pre order the game?? Personally, I say reward those faithful people that will pre order SW:TOR as oppossed to those who are just trying it for kicks and giggles... Which is exactly what Bioware is doing.. And I say, hooorrrraaaa to them for being smart.. This is why there will be no open beta.. Rallithon Oakthornn |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

To be fair they are having beta weekends, not unlike Rifts it seems, just before launch. But, ofc, thats too late to give the people spunking £130 on the CE or whatever an informed opinion, but then maybe thats their fault for being sucked in on the hype and spin of yet another dev selling them another lacking game. |

Reason for no open beta?1. Avoid the F2P kiddos 2. Avoid F2P kiddos forumspamming 3. Avoid F2P kiddo bad community ingame grief-festival |

Yup. This is really just common sense. |

All I know is that after the response to the pre orders... they better launch with about 250 servers - or nobody will be playing lol. $150 bucks for the CE and Amazon sold out? I thought Australia was going to drop nukes when they couldn't get the preorder right away. No bitchers. |
