The more you hype an upcoming game in your mind, the more it will fail to meet your expectations. |

Typical corporate reaction. Customers inadvertantly break the service while acting fully within reasonable means, and the company blames the customers and even bans them from the service. What's really sad is years back where people were purposefully trying to crash the server I was playing on, and succeeded, the worst they were ever hit with is a 3 hour suspension. |

If this is true and he is unbanned, it speaks to the power of the consumer which as consumers and game players you should all applaud. |

Yeah I have no clue who Swify is.
A perma-ban for an accidental first time offense is obviously too much. If he has a long history of offenses, but this was accidental, 30 days would have been fine.
Blizzard usually doesnt have the balls to do what is right with bans. I see known griefers still playing the next day. Intentionally disrupting someones gameplay should be a 7 day ban first offense, 30 day ban 2nd and 3rd offense, permaban after that. It would make the game a much better place. But Blizzard is too concerned with negative feedback (partly because I have NEVER seen a community so full of sheep in my life) to do the right thing in most cases. |

It was a stupid move on Blizzards part, and they corrected it.
No I do not know Switfy but a lot of people did, so it made "news"
I am sure we have all know people in game that were "famous" good or bad.
For me, EQ1 a bard named Fancy that trained everyone comes to mind, or a gnome named Nizmo(sp?) that made funny vedios.
Point being just becuase you never heard of them does not make them any less "famous" to their followers. |

while i dont play WoW... nor do i know who this person is (i did watch the OP link) it seems like blizzard did a correct call yet an incorrect call. my guess is they automatically assumed the vast number of people during their little event was designed to crash the servers. so they banned him for being the ring leader or what they assumed was the ring leader. so in that regard they are correct in banning him, if his intent was to crash and disrupt the players server/enjoyment of the game. as im sure there are more then 5k people playing on that server so the crash will have effected more then just the people at the little event. but at the same time.. he should not have been banned for this.. (ill take liberty and assume he did not intend to crash the server, as i cant read his mind this is all speculation) his event was designed to promote fun and enjoyment of the game. which blizzard should have wanted, the fact it crashed the server says alot about blizzards server networking clusters and server stability given the age and profititablity of WoW blizzard should have had stable enough servers to handle this many congurant connections in one location. it seems to me blizzard used him as a scape goat for their own poor server networks. ofcourse this is all speculation. we do not know what he was planning in his mind, publically he has stated it was a fun event (devils advicate that may or may not be true. only he knows) blizzard blames him for it so as its their game they removed him. even if he did not intend to do it. tin-hatting this subject you could claim blizzard was out to get him and when he ran his event, they pulled the plug on the server to crash it and blame him. only he and blizzard know both sides, while it doesnt matter to me if he is at fault or not. this is a very interesting topic. as it could be used for more griefing means later on if blizzard does not correct their servers.
though they do not have to reinsate his account if they do not wish to, as per their EULA and such... their game, their rules.. if they dont want you to play ... you wont be...
as a gamer, hopefully he gets it sorted and either gets his account back or gets this delt with, as it sounds pretty harsh reguardless if he did or did not mean to crash a server. CPU: Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz @ 2.8GHz (0%) |

Originally posted by teakbois From what I understand it was 3 servers...they crashed one moved to another crashed that and so on. Supposedly his event was playing havoc and some others jumped in to crash the 2nd and 3rd server. Because it was Swifty's event he got the blame. |

Originally posted by DanMcC If you guys can't figure out what a Swifty is after viewing the video, then no one will be able to explain it to you. I imagine you guys are purposely being dim in an attempt to prove that you don't care who he is. If you don't like the thread, or could care less, don't click it. Why read the thread, then make a comment about not knowing what a Swifty is when its right in the link? There are only two possible explanations. |

So.....how about the other people on the servers then? What about the guys that were in the middle of a raid when Mr Famous crashed them with his event? Just saying :). Still......don't know who the guy is. But in all fairness, this is why CCP asks you to announce a fleetwar to them, so they can move the area into its own cluster. "Skill has not cool downed!" |
