Im looking for an MMO thats actully worth it putting in time im saying a phew years im coming from Star Wars Galaxies after 8 years the game is dieing and i played all 8 years , still a little popular to this day but i want a game similiar to that , not exactly a star wars game but a fun game that will keep me ocupied and 8 years worth and not dying any games out there other than WoW because i will never play WoW.

Rift is probably the mmo to play until The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2. If you like rts games then End of Nations might be something to play when they release. 

EVE is fun and maintains the space theme you are used to.  Of course, there's a whole lot of stuff to learn within EVE, so you're going to have to be willing to "fly blind" for a while, until you can figure everything out.  They just redid the new player experience with Incarna and I haven't checked it out yet.  It may be better than before, it may not.  The best advice I can give when starting out is do the tutorials.  They will teach you a ton and give you free skill books and ships.

If you are talking years, then sadly there is no P2P MMO that can give you that now. Other than WoW

I know a lot of F2P games have had subscribers bases for almost as long though. The fact that they are still running today is a testament to that.

But yea, if you dont care about 'staying for a few years' then I would suggest playing Rift for now - despite its drabness, then go to GW2 or TOR - whichever comes first.

If your looking for a MMO right now that could last you many years, consider playing EVE. 

Many refugees from the great SWG purges went there years ago and remain their today.

Yeah. As an ex-SWG fan, you would probably have fun with EvE. I've gotten really into it and it's so in depth. It's wonderful ^ ^

Fallen Earth is also worth checking out..it is the closest feeling I have found to pre-NGE SWG...not the biggest population, but its single server so there are plenty of folks to play with.

There is no other game like SWG.

EVE or Fallen Earth have been suggested and they would be my suggestions as well.  Fallen Earth isn't "popular" which is one of your criteria, so that's probably out.
