I would love to move back to VG, but I would require about 6-12 months of nothing but bug fixes and client optimisation from a team of devs before I would consider returning. SOEs sandard of one guy fixing a few bugs every couple of months will not be enough for me or my guild to return.

I wouldnt come back just because information about upcoming updates has released. That means still subbing for a period where nothing has changed.

I would consider coming back if the update was in and after reading player's comments about it. It would have to be very good though, with 2 upcoming major MMO's on the horizon. Also has to be enough to pull me away from F2P AoC which we are enjoying atm.

An update is a nice thing for people who already find the game to be fun and play it, but seriously - who will buy/resub  the old title only because the developer promises an update? Most games get updated constantly for free without announcing it in press releases... It is rather sad that something that should be obvious for subscription-based mmo - a content update -  became something of a luxury in case of Vanguard SoH.

Nope.  Came back for the 45 free days and lasted a week.  Technical problems that have existed since beta are clearly still problems now.  I have no desire to further fund a product that is clearly still plagued with issues that impacted my game play back then, and still do now.

I agree but I love Vanguard, nothing out there right now captures the immersion and feel, I keep trying new stuff but always come back to Vanguard (for a little while), LOTRO (for a little while), and DDO (own everything so it's f2p for me and I always play it in short sperts)

My answer is maybe.

Vanguard need a serious REVAMP. Take what's good in Vanguard, update graphics, action combat (but keep please chain skills), richer lore and world map (Most things looks boring), better art to make the world more interesting and better to look at, revamped armour and weapons, better dungeons, balanced classes for PvP, PvP arenas (like in Rift), World map PvP ( 1 part of the world map that is a battlefield with events that updates every week).Dynamic Events, GW2 will have this and rift has it Rifts and invasions.

They should look at GW2 combat and learn from that.

Sorry to hear, I do not have these problems for some reason, some time a slight loading rubber band but I have no problems with groups and dungeons (less someone in the group has very poor latency)

A serious revamp? are you kidding me?  Did you make it off the trial isle?  I am going to bet you didnt because half the stuff you're complaining about is so far off base its not even funny.  Make the world more appealing visually? Seriously? It has to be the one of the best eye appealing games on the market, Dungeons are more robust then most of the even newer MMO releases.  Tons of lore if you actually got off the trial isle and did that sphere called diplomacy you would have more lore then you could stand. There is a world map and although it already has to much information its quite apparent what you want is a map that holds your hand thankfullly they havent done that yet.  There are plenty of suits of armor and weapons but unless you actually play the game you wont see them.

PvP like 90% of other MMO's isnt' an actual thought so why should a game designed for PvE even entertain the idea of putting in pvp as a half ass system.  I like pvp but your wow battlegrounds, arena idea are not real pvp but some sick offset of it .

No. I want something new. The graphics are too ugly and the world is too typical for MMOs.

I would play Vanguard seriously if the following happened:

- Stabilization of client.

- A significant but reasonable amount of new content added.

- A reasonable likelihood that there would be continued optimization of the client and continued development of new and worthwhile content.

- I had enough people to play with to not need to solo except during the lowest of the low peak times (3am / Christmas / right after a long downtime / etc).

Vanguard is not for everyone, it's a niche game in it's current state, and I personally don't think that to be such a bad thing.

My only problem with SOE "updating" Vanguard, is my fear of them taking what is good about the game and ruining it. Basically, I fear them "paying more attention" to the game could actually do more harm than good for those that DO enjoy the game and have actually spent some time playing it.

Sure, fix the bugs that are left and optimize the client a bit more for performance.

Beyond that, I don't think much more is really needed. The game has tons of content as it is, and I enjoy it's current content, group mechanics, crafting, and class systems.

Final Summary : The core game is great, many enjoy it,  don't mess with it. Fix what is needing to be fixed, add some more content eventually to appease long term subscribers, but don't mess up what's already a good game!!

Yes I am seriously contemplating resubbing. VG is a really deep game, and it has a good solo vs team focus (in favor of teaming). The biggest issue I have when trying to get back into VG is the low population, especially since I'm EU (playing on Telon though).

The low population is really a deadly cancer for a game like VG, since grouping is pretty important (you CAN solo, but it's much better to group). Many people dont want to resub because SOE has treated VG as it's redheaded step child, and with SOE now going to give the game some much needed attention and love, some people WILL be heading back to VG. That's a very safe bet. With more people heading back to VG, those people who sat on the fence because of low population will also be heading back. That's a pretty safe bet too.

So you see, there are several positive implication that come from SOE paying more attention to VG.

I'd also like to mention that I have very little problems running this game. I have a somewhat upgraded 4 year old pc (upgraded gfx, ram and op system), and I play on balanced settings with no hickups. I found it interesting that I could stay logged in for about 2 hours when I was afk, and found myself still logged in when returning. The game hasn't crashed once (10+ hours of recent gametime). I understand some people talk about stabilizing the client, and I respect people with longer experience than me saying that. The game does not have immidate problems at least, and from what I remember back from playing vg a few years ago, I never had problems with the client or it's stability. I left for other reasons non-game related.

Edit for clarity: I played VG after SOE had revamped their engine and client, optimizing code etc so VG would be playable to most people. I know VG was terribad at launch.

Maybe

I dont care about any updates, I just need more people in the game! I cant bring myself to play alone every single time I come back to this game. I've joined many so called "new player" guilds out there, even then you'll only see about 10-15 people logged in. I enjoy helping them out, but still its tough to advance your character when you're doing the lower level stuff and no one to play with to do the higher end stuff.

Even then the level grind from 51 to 55 is insanely tough. Definitely need a group to level up since the content for those levels are tackling some serious hard hitting mobs. Killing lvl 51+ 3 dot mobs doesnt give you enough exp to go solo besides you dont get to upgrade your gear killing entrance mobs and the quests and good rewards you want to do are inside Magi Hold and Hilsbury Manor.

At this point in time, I think even the high level players are burnt out on running the same daily quests over and over again in the Shores of Darkness ( I think thats what it was, the Kamelott Island place) you'll barely find people to even run those now days.

If enough players are playing I'll consider it. And I dont mean 100-200 people during prime time and weekends either. At least 1000 or more, the way it was back in the day.

I'd def take another look depending on what they do and if there is any kind of real player base. It also depends on when they do all this too though since there are a few games in the pipework (such as GW2) that I'm looking forward to.

their utter inability to grasp what brought them (SOE) up,and what has brought them much, but much lower, continues to amaze me..always the wrong decisions, the wrong (time-wise at least) announcements..ever since NGE,they just..i don't know, keep going at directions that are if not downright mistaken,at the very least of a secondary if not less importance..

They did EQ2X,goes alright, enough for them to seem happy about it anyway..new people coming in,a lot staying,a good bunch of pre-X players transfering to the new servers..new shinies on the market, all in all, they made a good buck out of it..sufficiently,it appears, for so-me-one (won't say) to decide old VN needs its turn..which i had been hoping since..well..been some years :) and what is the decision deriving from such a meeting staff? content.."at this time we can't/will not work on turning it into a f2p"..but we will give you new content..you,the 27 people online on a saturday evening..yes sir,you..we will not use the same personnel,in whatever time tables and make this like eq2x,no,we will add new content, and keep a monthly fee,and because we are SOE,hell,we'll probably give you the first update near the time TSW or SWToR launches! now THAT will bring'em in by the thousands, won't it..

I'd come back when i see they want me back..they will want me back when they show me they give new people a chance to play it,by turning it to an f2p,ala EQ2,as they got its makings ready anyway..new content twice per year wont make the servers alive again..sorry,and much as i wish for it

I've always wanted to give it some serious time, but the absolute lack of development on the game warded me off as a game w/ one foot in the grave

Even now I'm extremely hesitant to delve into it unless I see some serious committment by Sony to start supporting the game regularly.

I played vanguard since launch and left about two years ago.  I got to level 50, when that was the level cap, and maxed several crafters.  It was a game where you could group, solo, craft, harvest and really could pretty much find something to do matching your mood on any given day.  If you wanted to adventure, there were plenty of places to go, and if you just wanted to harvest or craft you could, at a leisurely pace, with few mobs on your tail while you did.  When you crafted, you went to the popular crafting spots and were able to socialize as you used the forge or the workbench or whatever.  I left because they changed all this.

Their first mistake was to put crafting stations in all the housing areas.   This effectively eliminated the sense of community that a player would get by heading to the crafting spots and meet other players.  Subsequently, people rarely left their home neighborhood to do their crafting and you would see a lonely crafter here and there.

In terms of harvesting,  There was a wonderful spot just south of New Targonor with top tier trees, metal, stone, plants and NO MOBS.  People would go there to harvest in peace with no hassles.  One day, out of the blue, there was a huge sphere plopped in the middle of the metal and plant nodes effectively ruining the plant and metal harvesting.  For those who are interested the stone and lumber nodes are still pristine and very harvestable but tailors and smiths were really treated badly.  Needless to say many people that I played with cancelled their subscriptions when that happened, and I followed a few weeks later.

The problem with Vanguard was the game developers total disregard for the player base.  They never listened, they never cared and so we all walked as other similar style games became available.

Would I go back?  I don't know.  Im happy in Lotro now and have been since I left VG.  I may take a look see if they do something with it but to be honest, I doubt that I would leave Lotro to go back to VG.

I'd play if the game had collision detection.

Answer is no.

Regardless if new content is added, it was never the game's problem. The game's problem was bugs, low population, and marketing. VG never had a buzz after launch, never. Even if this new found "support" of the game by SOE, for me I need to feel life in the game. The game needs life, it needs a buzz, it needs to be babied. Like how Trion does Rift, Blizzard does WoW, and SOE does EQ. It needs THAT kind of attention if VG wants a resurgence.

And again, I believe like others, this update is mainly for those who been playing, not for new players who think this game is gonna be rebuilt.

I voted yes, but it also depends on the amount of their commitment, if they are just giving it some 'token' attention, then no.

If they actually sell the game to someone that wants to develop it, or finally change their mind and develop it, in a direction I like, then yes I would think about coming back.

As for bugs and such, the game actually ran very well on my computer, I had a new gaming computer when VG launched, so I didn't have as many problems as some....Yeah it didn't matter what computer you had, you had issues, but I had far fewer than most.  I left from the PvP server before it was gone, and I ran the game without many bugs/lag from my memory...The admission of not working on pvp killed the pvp servers population (Everyone left to AoC as the new promise of good PvP at the time).  Saying that to give a timeframe.

So I imagine it would run just fine, unless they actually have gotten cheap and lowered the computer support for the game, which they could of, but if so it would be a easy fix.
