Originally posted by MMOExposed It's single platform console only. Maybe that's the reason, but then again DUST is on the site. There have been some F2P MMO games with articles and advertising that don't have entries on the site, that has boggled me as well, to an extent. Personally I don't think the site should be only MMORPGs. I don't like that FPS and RTS have separate sites with what I guess are separate logins. I would rather this be one unified site with lots of different games (MMO, RPGs, FPS, RTS, MOBA, etc) and the ability to visit, comment, and review each one. The site could have categories, tabs, or whatever else to group games, but genre lines and definitions are too blurry now to have individual sites catering to specific groups. Gamers play lots of different games why not be able to discuss them all under our single site account. |

I did some google, and I found this:
MAG, previously titled MAG: Massive Action Game,[5] is a multiplayer-only first-person shooter[6] video game developed by Zipper Interactive for the PlayStation 3.
Sorry, if this is the game that's being talked about, then doesn't sound like an MMORPG at all. No persistent areas, no world, just a few battle maps. Would be complete nonsense to call this an MMORPG, totally different from games like GW or DDO. Wikipedia calls it an online shooter, sounds like the fitting definition to me. Originally posted by MMO.Maverick How so? It has Persistent lobbies like all the other games. Hey World of Tanks is a MMO, why not MAG? Also in GW the towns are split into district instances. MAG on the other hand has multiplayer thats way more MASSIVELY than Guild Wars and DDO combined. How is Vindictus a MMO but MAG isnt? Age of Empire? LoL? DWO? but MAG isnt a MMO?

It won't be added regardless: "3. Personal contact has been made between MMORPG.com editorial staff and the studio in quesiton." EDIT: Your question really isn't clear anymore either. Are you asking if it's an MMO or if it should be on this site? You keep changing it. _________________ |

Developers forgot what made mmos special. Until we get that back the genre wont move forward. |

If Global Agenda can be called a MMO then so can MAG.
I think once Team Fortress 2 goes Free To Play it will be labled as MMO too.

Originally posted by MMOExposed Thanks, I got it to work now. I tried it a few weeks ago and had some problems so I thought they were separate. |

Originally posted by MMOExposed Are the lobbies persistent areas where you can wander around in with your avatar a la GW? Does that lobby have merchant NP's and trainers where your avatar can walk to in the world area to do business with, while you see other players walking around doing the same kind of things, again like a GW?
A battle map that's gone after the fight isn't persistent, so it has no meaning and is no sign of proof of it being an MMORPG.
As for the others, LoL, AoE, I don't know about those, I just read up on what MAG was, and from what I read it sounds to me that MAG is definitely NOT an MMORPG. Simple as that, disappointing that you even have to ask The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's |

Originally posted by MMO.Maverick Youre quite right that it isnt an MMORPG, but the thing is: this site (mmorpg.com) has listed several games that don't qualify to be listed here - if you get technical on the term. World of Tanks is a lobby based shooter, and the maps reset after each battle. There are several of these examples in the game list. So it seems mmorpg.com has broadened it's pallette - which I find quite alright. But it leaves the question: why are some games listed, while others aren't - when they are very similar in composition? |

Originally posted by MMOExposed Lol. Now I know that you're talking nonsense
Originally posted by Mimzel I don't know WoT, but if there are some games that are questionable on the list, then maybe the better question is, didn't someone make a mistake because of ignorance and shouldn't these wrongfully added games be removed to do some cleanup of the list? If not, then we might as well add Diablo 3 as an MMORPG when it launches and every other multiplayer online game.
Or maybe they should rename the site name: mmog.com, or mmorpg.com, the site for all kinds (M)MO games. The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's |

Originally posted by Mimzel I thought they called them MOBAs (multiplayer online battle arenas), but the definitions and getting confusing. It's bad when we have to categorize, define and limit what we expose ourselves to, as gamers because we don't want to ruffle genre definitions. I'm glad the RTS and FPS share the same login, now I would like to see better site integration between the three and as other games develop that go outside those genres, have them included as well. I mean we talk about many single player RPGs here so why not MOBAs and other games. |

MMOexposed its not being called an MMO because 1. Majority of the console gamers dont argue semantics as much 2. Only the MMO players call online games MMOs and such. 3. The devs didnt advertise it as an MMO 4. None of the sites who covers online games really pay attention to console games and thus completely miss that. If that were released in the PC then most people will say its a buy to play multiplayer online only game and some people will then start calling it a lobby mmo and thus the transformation begins. Face it. Not everyone pays attention to how things are used. And yes Ill repeat it again. This whole thing started in the east when games like ragnarok online came out. Followed by lobby games that were advertised as "MMO". As more and more games from the east reach the west in their f2p mode, more and more players get in. Now since WoW came in and brought a bunch of people in, when they look and switch or find other online games advertised as MMOs, they will inherently follow it without even trying what it means. My classmate did a questionnaire in my high school about this and majority of the people actually assumed MMORPG = Online game where you play with other people.
There, people did not care about "solo" play. They went to an MMO expecting to play with other people. Heck when WoW came out and I showed it to my old friends, the first thing they said was "that game is so dead. where are the other people?"
Do you think that if a persons first or second experience in MMOS are lobby based f2p games or something similar, they would understand what youre talking about with persistent world and what not? Of course not o.o And thats what were seeing today. A lot of the players have actually seen f2p games and since its called mmos, they just go "oh its an mmo shooter? cool" and thats that o.o They dont go through some long winded thought about what is an mmo or not because from what theyve seen, an mmo is just an online game.
You want MAG to be an MMO? Write articles about it to MMO sites. Saying "This console game may not be called an MMO, but its definitely got enough MMO aspects to be one" or whatever o.o Its always about the ads. If MAG had a huge ad campaign calling itself an mmo-shooter, you would without a doubt see it here. I myself never heard of that game. Ofc I dont even have a ps3 so I guess thats understandable. i play MAG . i can see why people can call it a mmo. MAG has a lil bit of everything... its almost like a rts. it has a tree skill and leveling. outfit your character's look. purchase weapons and gear from points you receive. it has a 3 rivalling faction but, imo i still dont think its a mmo.
