The countdown is over! Sony Online Entertainment has unveiled PlanetSide 2 on the official PlanetSide 2 website.  The unveiling consists of a debut trailer, a trio of screenshots and wallpapers, and a FAQ.

I was a pretty big fan of the original. Keeping my eye on this one...I just hope they don't do it as F2P.

I never played the original Planetside, but this does look like it might be a lot of fun!

I'm looking forward to the details revealed tomorrow morning.

Isn't this Firefall? Isn't this Earthrise? I'd rather have The Agency, thank you. At least spies were something new. Another sci-fi shooter = yawn.

  Yea, FPS MMO(3rd person on a toggle if ya want that),  no npc to level on,  just all player skillz man.  And no,  its neither,  or any other,  1,000  of peeps on 1 screen fighting for a base.  You haven't played anything like it.

    Yes. PlanetSide 2 is an MMO FPS set in an online persistent world where the war wages non-stop and the balance of power shifts with every base and territory captured and lost. I have to say, if they just retooled the original with new code and new graphics a hundred thousand players would be happy. Unfortunately, there is a distict probability that SOE, because they don't know how not to, will botch this. BFR's, rampant unchecked hacking, over the top imbalancing, etc. Now... should they actually manage to do this right, the PC users just found their Dust 514.

  I hear ya,  and thats what they are doing man.  NO BFR's!  The reason i quit that crap in the first place.  It's basicly gonna be the same style,  new and old maps, buffed up graphics, but basiclly the same fun grind the orignal(before BFR's!!!!).  Been waiting too long for this game.  Can't wait for beta to start.

Was any info given to make this game different from the original? Am I missing something, or was this "Anouncement" a waste of time?

I still do not get the hatred people have for BFRs. I was a killer BFR pilot for the Terran Republic; the Colossus rocked.

Lol sure... the cycler was my weapon of choice, no need for a chain gun like most TR troopers... or that ridiculous newb tube the jackhammer.

Game looks great as the original Planetside.

Yet with the instability and unreliability of Sony and SOE. Is the possibility of surrendering the security of your personal details due to incompetency worth it?

The rifle firing animations look off to me. Not sure why but they do. Overall, the graphics aren't bad.

Advancing in a line firing? Pfft, they would get some kind of vehicle driving right through them in a typical Planetside game.  :) Ahh, the memories.

10 bucks says they turn it into instanced-side.  Turning this mmorpg into team-fortress2-10v10 snooze fest with a monthly fee.

im gonna have to give this game a chance now, the sole reason being is that they are promoting all the mechanics that made planetside not only one of a kind.

but the ONLY MMOFPS (aside from WW2Online) worth a damn.

Earthrise? no..just no

FireFall? PVE persistant world with  arena style pvp??? not even close

Dust514? really, was rooting for this game, but after it being PS3 exclusive, MT items, and several mentions of 36 v. 36 combat, i dunno.

Biggest Contender will be Tribes Universe, that is the only game that upfront promoted large scale persistant combat while the other games danced around the concept.
